Abstract

Environmental problems are becoming increasingly complex and tangible. This requires biology learning that is contextual and relevant to daily life. However, the learning process in the classroom still heavily relies on textbooks and lecture methods that do not actively involve students. Therefore, interactive teaching materials that connect the subject matter with current environmental issues are needed. This research aims to develop and test the validity of E-LKPD based on the Socio Scientific Issues (SSI) approach on the topic of environmental changes. The development model used is ADDIE, limited to the first three stages: Analysis, Design, and Development. The research method employs a quantitative descriptive approach involving two expert validators, namely a media expert and a content expert. The instruments used consist of validation sheets with a rating scale. The validation results show that the media and content aspects received an average score of 98%, which falls into the 'very valid”. Thus, this SSI-based E-LKPD is deemed suitable for use as a learning resource in biology education, particularly on the topic of environmental changes. Abstrak. Abstract

Karst ecosystems possess distinctive edaphic and hydrological characteristics that influence vegetation structure, yet information regarding tree vegetation in the Hungayono karst area remains limited. This study aimed to analyze species composition, vegetation structure, and community patterns of tree vegetation in the Hungayono Karst Ecosystem, Tulabolo Pinogu Resort, Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park. A survey method with purposive sampling was applied at three karst topographic zones representing the lower, middle, and upper areas. Five 20 × 20 m plots were established at each zone, resulting in 15 observation plots. Vegetation data were analyzed using density, frequency, dominance, Important Value Index (IVI), and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results recorded 12 species with a total of 61 individuals belonging to the divisions Tracheophyta and Pinophyta. The lower karst zone exhibited the highest species richness and abundance, whereas the upper zone showed a simple and nearly monodominant community structure. Bambusa multiplex dominated Point I with an IVI of 76.38%, Neolamarckia macrophylla dominated Point II with an IVI of 179.5%, and Neolamarckia cadamba dominated Point III with an IVI of 300%. PCA analysis indicated heterogeneous vegetation communities influenced by topography, soil thickness, and microclimatic conditions. These findings highlight the ecological role of karst topographic gradients in shaping tree vegetation structure and provide scientific information for karst habitat management and conservation.

Abstract

Climate change caused by increasing carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions has become a global issue affecting environmental balance and rising global temperatures. Tropical forest ecosystems, including the Hungayono karst area in Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park, play an important role as carbon sinks through vegetation biomass. This study aims to analyze vegetation density, biomass, carbon content, and carbon sequestration potential in the Hungayono karst ecosystem. The research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive method with purposive sampling techniques at three observation points through the transect quadrat method. Vegetation data were analyzed using allometric equations and IPCC conversion factors. The results showed a tree density of 290 individuals/ha and sapling density of 335 individuals/ha. Total biomass reached 677.79 tons/ha, carbon content was 420.06 tons/ha, and carbon sequestration potential was 1541.63 tons CO₂e/ha. These findings indicate that tree-level vegetation plays a dominant role in carbon storage and climate change mitigation.
