Abstract

The various types of plants that Indonesia has should be protected and maintained in diversity. Many types of plants are used as medicinal plants. Some taste sweet, astringent, sour, and even bitter. One of them is the noni plant. The noni plant has fruit that tastes bitter and gives off an unpleasant odor. However, noni fruit contains antibacterial properties. More than one bacteria is found in the human body. One of them is Staphylococcus aureus which can infect if the immune system is low. The main treatment for bacterial infections uses antibiotics. Frequent use of antibiotics can cause resistance. To overcome this resistance, research was carried out on ethanol extract of noni fruit which is expected to inhibit the growth of these bacteria. This research is experimental using Staphylococcus aureus bacteria as a bacterial test using the disc diffusion method. The antibiotic amoxicillin was used as a positive control. The diameter of the inhibition zone will determine the antibacterial activity of the bacterial medium. The ethanol extract of noni fruit that was tested provided evidence that it could prolong the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The concentration of the test solution is divided into 3, namely 25%, 50% and 75%. The diameters of the inhibition zones are 15.67 mm, 19.7 mm, and 23.97 mm, respectively. Differences in the concentration of the test solution can affect the diameter of the inhibition zone in the bacterial medium. The test solution with a concentration of 75% had the best antibacterial inhibition power, namely 23.97 mm. Keywords: noni fruit, Staphyococcus aureus, antibacterial

Abstract

The Body Mass Index (BMI) value is used to determine the body composition value, calculated using a formula involving height and weight. Increasing body weight will affect the size of the stomach circumference. One indicator of BMI that can identify the risk of morbidity due to increased body weight is the measurement of the size of the abdominal circumference. If there is an increase in BMI, the risk of developing hypertension and other heart diseases also increases. Hypertension is when a person's blood pressure exceeds normal (120/80mmHg). This research was conducted to analyze the influence of BMI and abdominal circumference on hypertension symptoms using analytical observation. Random sampling was taken from the USU Faculty of Medicine student population with the criteria of having a history of heart disease, a history of metabolic disease, taking heart medication, and being an athlete. Respondents had their height and weight measured, their BMI values were calculated, then their abdominal circumference, and their blood pressure. The results showed that there was an influence between BMI and abdominal circumference on symptoms of hypertension. There was a significant correlation between BMI and systole (p=0.000) and diastole (p=0.014) as well as a moderate correlation coefficient for systole (r=0.466) and diastole (r=0.340). There is a correlation between abdominal circumference and systole (p=0.000) and diastole (p=0.038) and a moderate level correlation coefficient with systole (r=0.480) and diastole (r=0.289). It can be concluded that there was an influence of BMI and LP on hypertension.

Abstract

The skin plays a role in protecting bones and muscles, which are generally soft and elastic. In order for the skin to be well protected, internal and external care is needed. Internal skin care is obtained by consuming healthy foods. While external skin care is through the use of preparations directly on the skin. Several types of skin damage occur due to exposure to free radicals, such as exposure to UV rays. To avoid these dangers, a lotion that can act as an antioxidant is needed. Papaya seeds are rich in antioxidants that can increase skin moisture so that they are recommended as a basic ingredient for making lotion. The purpose of this socialization is to educate the public to be more concerned about health by using the right skin moisturizing lotion. PKM activities were carried out through socialization attended by 50 people around the Pantai Labu sub-district. The socialization material presented was about the use of papaya seed extract lotion as a skin moisturizer. The team also taught participants to be more careful in choosing cosmetics before using them. Increased knowledge was measured based on the pre-test and post-test values ??obtained from all participants. The results showed that there had been an increase in the knowledge of PkM participants, where the level of knowledge became high and very high with a percentage of 50% and 30%. Increased knowledge in the form of understanding about the preparation of papaya seed extract lotion that is stable and has a distinctive aroma. The lotion is also safe for the skin because the acidity level is appropriate and does not irritate the skin. This PkM activity has proven to have increased the understanding of PkM participants that lotions made from plant extracts are actually worthy of being used as an alternative for skin care.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition of low hemoglobin levels in the blood. This condition often occurs in adolescent girls due to menstrual cycles and a tendency to diet. Adolescent girls who suffer from anemia are at risk of giving birth to babies with low birth weight and stunting. The incidence of anemia is very high in North Sumatra, one of which is in Sei Rampah District. Because of this condition, researchers feel the need to make efforts to reduce the incidence of anemia by providing iron tablets. The action research method was carried out to determine whether there were changes in hemoglobin levels in the anemia group of grade XII SMAN 1 Sei Rampah students who were given intervention. The students' hemoglobin levels were measured to group which ones had the potential for anemia, then given iron tablets once a week for 4 weeks and then their hemoglobin levels were measured again. Action research plays a role in achieving a decrease in the incidence of anemia. Researchers concluded that there was an increase hemoglobin levels by 96.7% in the group of female students categorized as anemic after the intervention of anemia concept education and the provision of iron tablets with assistance.
