Abstract

Mercury is one of the heavy metals with high toxicity and is included in the class of neurotoxic substances that can cause various damage to tissue and nerve cells. The proper use of biomarkers in blood, urine and hair can determine the effectiveness of the mercury poisoning examination in the laboratory. Purpose: This study aimed to describe the effectiveness of mercury poisoning examination using biological samples. Method: This study used a literature review with online database sources from the search engine Science Direct, PubMed, Google Scholar. Result, The cause of mercury poisoning was through the use of mercury in various industrial fields, mining activities, consumption of fish, shellfish and water that had been contaminated with mercury. Examination of mercury poisoning with blood and urine biomarkers was the main choice for acute exposure due to the direct use of mercury, especially in the work environment. Hair biomarkers were the main choice for chronic exposure, mainly fish consumption. The length of working time and the frequency of fish consumption had a significant influence on the high levels of mercury in the body, where the longer and more mercury exposure, the more risk a person was to experience mercury poisoning. Mercury levels in the blood can be detected within 2-3 days, in urine one week after exposure, and in hair, levels are persistent in the long term. Conclusion: The effectiveness of mercury poisoning examination using biological samples depends on the type and duration of exposure, where short-term exposure to high concentrations uses blood and urine biomarkers and long-term exposure using hair biomarkers.

Abstract

Vitamin D diyakini membantu meningkatkan sensitivitas tubuh terhadap hormon insulin yang bertanggung jawab dalam mengatur kadar gula darah sehingga dapat mengurangi resiko resistensi insulin yang seringkali menjadi awal dari Diabetse Mellitus (DM) tipe 2. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kadar vitamin D pada pasien DM tipe 2. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian yang bersifat deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross sectional study. Jumlah sampel sebanyak 30 yang diperiksa menggunakan Metode ELISA. Nilai normal kadar vitamin D 30-100 ng/mL. Hasil analisis kadar vitamin D pada pasien DM tipe 2 yaitu pasien dengan kadar vitamin D rendah sebanyak 7 pasien (23,3%), kadar vitamin D normal sebanyak 18 pasien (60%) dan kadar vitamin D tinggi sebanyak 5 pasien (16,6%). Kesimpulan pasien dengan kadar vitamin D normal lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan kadar vitamin D rendah dan kadar vitamin D tinggi.

Abstract

Karbon monoksida (CO) adalah gas beracun tidak berwarna yang terbentuk dari pembakaran bahan bakar karbon atau bahan organik yang mengandung sedikit oksigen. Pedagang kaki lima merupakan pedagang yang menjual barang dagangnya di pinggir jalan atau di tempat umum sehingga berpotensi terpaparnya CO yang berikatan dengan hemoglobin (Hb) yang akhirnya menjadi COHb. Mengetahui kadar COHb dalam darah pedagang kaki lima. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian cross sectional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 26 responden dengan metode pengambilan sampel yaitu quota sampling. Pengukuran kadar COHb menggunakan alat spektrofotometer UV-Vis dengan metode Hinsberg-Lang dan analisis menggunakan Uji Kolerasi Pearson . Pada 26 pedagang kaki lima, di peroleh 25 responden dengan hasil kadar COHb meningkat dengan rentang kadar COHb mulai dari 4,25% hingga 11,34%, melebihi nilai batas toleransi yaitu < 3,5% dan hanya 1 responden yang memiliki hasil kadar COHb normal dengan nilai 2,52%. Hasil uji kolerasi kadar COHb dengan masa kerja diperoleh hasil sig.(2-tailed) = 0,229, waktu kerja diperoleh hasil sig.(2-tailed) = 0,038 dan kualitas tidur diperoleh hasil sig.(2-tailed) = 0,007. Kesimpulan kadar COHb dalam darah pedagang kaki lima rata-rata diatas ambang batas dan tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kadar COHb dalam darah dengan masa kerja (p > 0,05), sedangkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kadar COHb dalam darah dengan waktu kerja (p < 0,05) dan kualitas tidur (p < 0,05).
