Abstract

The pulp and paper industry continues to grow and produces large amounts of fly ash waste from the biomass combustion process. Alternative waste management besides landfills needs to be developed so that the use of fly ash can be ecologically and economically acceptable, such as for land applications in industrial plantations, especially on peat soils. This paper presents the results of the analysis of micro nutrients from fly ash from pulp and paper mill waste that can be used for agriculture and forestry. The elemental content of boron (B) and zinc (Zn) can be detected in fly ash samples both by lauryl amine extraction and stearyl amine extraction, where the optimum amount is obtained using 15 gram of fatty amine and n-hexane solvent with a processing time of 4 hours. Stearyl amine gives a higher yield than lauryl amine because it has a longer saturated carbon chain.

Abstract

One of the latest innovations in textile waste treatment is advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) methods using an oxidizing agent capable of producing sulfate radicals (SO4•). This study aims to determine the activity of the Mn/Carbon sphere catalyst in the oxidation process, reduce the dye content by using a combination of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and Mn/Carbon sphere catalyst as an oxidizing agent, and determine the optimum conditions in the process of reducing dye levels in the water. A hydrothermal process carried out the catalyst synthesis process to produce black carbon from D-glucose solution, then impregnated with variations of 3% and 5% of Mn metal. The degradation of methylene blue (artificial waste) of 25mg/L (1:10 dilution) was carried out for 120 minutes with variations in the catalyst mass of 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, and 0.004g and the mass of PMS 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, and 0, 04g in 100ml sample. Mn/Carbon sphere catalyst was able to activate PMS and was able to degrade methylene blue by 88.16%. The optimum condition for reducing the methylene blue levels in the water is at a concentration of 1g/L PMS and a Mn/Carbon sphere catalyst (5% Mn metal) 0.5g/L with an efficiency of 88.16%.

Abstract

The purpose of implementing this community service is to apply a performance-based real work lecture implementation model with an adaptive program in the new normal period at the implementation of the Riau University Real Work Lecture (Kukerta). Implementation will be carried out in 2021 in all Kukerta locations for Riau University students in 2021. The focus of the model applied is the basis of indicators for assessing Kukerta implementation based on community service performance for universities. In addition, the programs that are prepared are also adaptive during the new normal. The results of the application show that there is a potential for increasing service performance outcomes through the implementation of this Kukerta, namely in the indicators (a) service with non-DRPM funding, (b) publication in the mass media, (c) partners with legal entities, and (d) books.

Abstract

Ranah Singkuang is one of 10 villages classified as stunting villages in the Kampar regency area with a percentage of 24%. The Kampar District Government has done prevention programs on stunting condition from 2018 to 2019. If not treated immediately, the condition of stunting will affect the quality of human resources in the future. The condition of stunting causes children not to grow normally, low IQ, susceptible to infectious diseases as a result of low productivity, and difficulty competing in the world of work. The purpose of this community service activity is the transfer of knowledge to the community in Ranah Singkuang village, increasing the knowledge and ability of village community in terms of processing various kinds of fish-based products that have high nutritional values that are salable in the market in order to boost the community’s economy, provide knowledge about children's health by providing education to the community and training children's healthy menus so that their appetite increases. The result achieved from this community service activity are that the community understands more about the importance of nutrition for toddlers especially before the age of 1000 days and the community can process fish-based food, so that stunting problems in the village can be prevented.

Abstract

Abstract Organic waste can be used into various products that have economic value and are environmentally friendly, one of which is eco-enzymes. Eco-enzyme is a multifunctional liquid produced from a fermentation process for 3 months with simple ingredients, namely brown sugar, organic waste in the form of fruit and vegetable peels and water with a ratio of 1:3:10. The benefits of Eco Enzyme are as plant fertilizer, repellent, cleaning drains, detergent, dishwashing liquid, cleaning vegetables and fruit from pesticides, cleaning air pollution, and antiseptic. Community service activities in Pematang Kapau village provide benefits in household waste management. The purpose of this community service activity is to introduce the process of making eco enzymes and the multi-functional benefits of eco enzymes through training and practice of making eco enzymes. This service activity is carried out face-to-face while still adhering to health protocols. One day before the training, the team gave out brochures on the technicalities of making eco enzymes and asked participants to bring organic waste. Based on the results of the questionnaire at the beginning and at the end of the service, 80% said it was in accordance with the needs of the community, 90% added insight, 95% was useful, and the percentage who wanted to do it after training increased from the initial 30% to 100%. Abstrak Sampah organik dapat dimanfaatkan menjadi berbagai produk yang bernilai ekonomi dan ramah lingkungan, salah satunya adalah eco-enzym. Eco-enzyme adalah cairan multifungsi yang dihasilkan dari proses fermentasi selama 3 bulan dengan bahan sederhana yaitu gula merah, sampah organik berupa kulit buah dan sayuran serta air dengan perbandingan 1:3:10. Manfaat Eco Enzyme yaitu sebagai pupuk tanaman, pengusir hama, membersihkan saluran air, detergen, cairan pencuci piring, pembersih sayur dan buah dari pestisida, membersihkan polusi udara, serta antiseptik. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat di kelurahan Pematang Kapau memberikan manfaat dalam pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengenalkan proses pembuatan eco enzyme dan manfaat multi fungsi dari eco enzyme melalui pelatihan dan praktek pembuatan eco enzyme. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan secara tatap muka dengan tetap mematuhi protokol kesehatan. Satu hari sebelum pelatihan, tim memberikan brosur tentang teknis pembuatan eco enzyme dan meminta peserta membawa sampah organic. Berdasarkan hasil kuesioner diawal dan diakhir pengabdian memperlihatkan bahwa 80 % mengatakan sesuai dengan kebutuhan masyarakat, 90 % menambah wawasan, 95 % bermanfaat, dan persentasi yang ingin melakukan setelah pelatihan meningkat dari yang awalnya 30% menjadi 100 %.

Abstract

Functioning industrial waste as raw material or as a product is an achievement that will continue to be optimized, especially in industries where the amount of waste is significant. Pulp and paper mills produce waste in the form of solid, sludge, liquid and gas. The objective of this research is to extract the element ferrum contained in one of the solid wastes in pulp and paper mills. By using two fatty amine extractor, lauryl amine and stearyl amine with ethanol and n-hexane as solvents. The results showed that the use of stearyl amine as an extractor and n-hexane as a solvent with operating conditions of 4 hours and a dose of 5 grams gave the best results with an extraction yield of 10,964 mg/kg.

Abstract

The very rapid development of technology and its very fast distribution as well as the spread of the Corona virus have resulted in a shift in the function of education in the Kampung Baru community. To achieve this success, it is necessary to instill the discipline of learning from an early age and always give efforts to remind the culture of learning to read and count, especially in terms of literacy and numerization to students at SDN 003 Bukit Kapur. Tutoring can be obtained from each individual who has the aim of helping each student to know himself and be able to act fairly, facilitating students to make skills and understanding in learning. In addition, tutoring can also help solve students' learning problems.

Abstract

The Community Service Team of the Faculty of Engineering of Riau University together with students of the Riau University 2022 Kukerta team in Batu Belah Village, Kampar District provided assistance and demonstrations on how to make eco-enzyme solution from organic waste as a multifunctional solution. The eco-enzyme solution is a liquid resulting from the fermentation of organic waste in the form of fruit and vegetable waste which is added brown sugar and water in a ratio of 3:1:10 for 90 days. The purpose of this community service activity was to provide knowledge to the community and housewives group of Batu Belah Village, Kampar District to utilize organic waste into eco-enzyme solution and the benefits of eco-enzyme for various functions. In the implementation of community service activities, several stages were carried out including the stage of meeting with village officials and recording enthusiasts who wanted to take part in the training, then from the results of the participant data, the socialization stage and demonstration of training materials for making eco-enzyme solutions. The last stage to see the achievement of the training results is monitoring the level of understanding and enthusiasm of the participants. The results of the service showed that the Batu Belah Village community was very enthusiastic about participating in the socialization of making eco-enzyme from organic waste and was willing to practice it in their respective homes with an understanding level of 93.3%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat sabun padat transparan dari minyak kelapa murni, minyak kelapa sawit, dan minyak zaitun dan menganalisis pengaruh penambahan eco-enzyme terhadap karakteristik sabun yang dihasilkan yaitu pH, kadar air, kadar asam lemak bebas, uji stabilitas busa, uji organoleptik, dan uji iritasi. Eco-enzym yang digunakan berasal dari hasil fermentasi sampah organik buah-buahan (kulit nanas, kulit jeruk, kulit mentimun, tomat, sawi dan pepaya). Penelitian ini menggunakan 5 perlakuan penambahan eco-enzyme, yaitu tanpa eco-enzyme (P1), 2 ml (P2), 4 ml (P3), 6 ml (P4), dan 8 ml (P5). Hasil uji pH menunjukkan bahwa kelima sabun berada pada range 9,44-10,41, uji kadar air sabun berada pada range 11,82-13,82%, dan uji kadar asam lemak bebas menghasilkan nilai 0,23-0,70%. Hasil uji stabilitas busa berada pada range 97,45-99,2%, Uji organoleptik dilakukan oleh 24 responden dan menilai kelima sabun transparan, bertekstur keras, beraroma apel, dan berwarna kuning bening. Kelima sabun tidak menimbulkan iritasi kulit pada 24 panelis. Berdasarkan hasil uji karakteristik kelima sabun padat transparan telah memenuhi syarat mutu sabun padat SNI 06-3532-1994.
