Abstract

Treatment of maxillofacial patients needs a multidisciplinary approach of several expertise based on the complexity of the case. Prosthodontists often work together with e.g. ENT, oral or plastic surgeons to provide patient with better prosthesis and optimum treatment. Case report: A 55 years old male was referred to Dental Teaching Hospital of Universitas Indonesia for facial prosthesis fabrication. Patient had undergone squamous cell carcinoma ablation surgery that encompassed nose, cheek, sinuses, upper lip and most of the hard palate. Due to the extensive nature of the defect, Department of Prosthodontics collaborated with Department of Biomedical Engineering to employ 3D printing technique using general purpose machine for fabricating the trial pattern for the prosthesis, with attention given especially to margin areas and facial contours. This technique helps for prosthesis fabrication of this patient because manual wax carving is no longer necessary. Wax carving usually is a labor/skill intensive step and takes longer time. Conclusion: 3D printing of the trial pattern for the prosthesis help minimizes the labor/ skill intensive part of facial prosthesis fabrication.

Abstract

Masticatory performance has been studied extensively in the past few decades. Age, gender, the number of teeth in occlusion, occlusal contact area, salivary flow, and neurophysiological deficits influence the masticatory process. The replacement of missing teeth with dental prostheses, whether fixed or removable, is often used to achieve an acceptable level of masticatory performance. Objective: The present study aimed to analyze the association between masticatory performance and age, gender, and oral health status based on the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMF-T) score, denture use, and denture condition in an adult population. Methods: This study included a total of 152 individuals (60 males and 92 females) aged 17 years or older (mean ± standard deviation: 33.4 ± 13.1 years). Masticatory performance was evaluated using color-changeable chewing gum. The chi-squared test was used to assess the association between masticatory performance and age, gender, DMF-T score, dental prosthesis use, and prosthesis condition. Results: Age (p=0.001), missing teeth (p=0.001), and prosthesis use (p=0.011) had significant relationships with masticatory performance. However, the correlations between masticatory performance and gender, tooth decay, fillings, and prosthesis condition were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Age, missing teeth, and prostheses are strongly associated with masticatory performance.

Abstract

Post-menopausal women experience physiological hormonal changes that reduce bone density which leads to tooth loss and presumably affect masticatory function. Objective: This study aims to determine association between tooth loss and masticatory ability in post-menopausal women. Methods: Cross sectional study of 95 post-menopausal women at Posbindu Lansia Pergeri Depok, West Java was performed. Subjects answered questionnaires and intra oral examination was performed. Chi square analysis was conducted to relate age, menopausal period, education level, tooth loss and denture use with masticatory ability. Results: 47% subjects lost >10 teeth, 27% subjects lost 6-10 teeth and 26% subjects lost <0.05).

Abstract

Trigeminal neuralgia was uncommon in people younger than 30 years of age. Only 1% of cases reportedly occurring in those younger than 20 years of age, so that this case is quite rare. The diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) was also present along with the trigeminal neuralgia and confirmed by head and TMJ MRI. This article describes a case of a 17-years-old females who sought help because of pain in the right side of her face, from her temple area down to her cheek and TMJ, continuing to her lower jaw and sometimes at the back of the ear. She also reported increased pain during chewing or otherfunctional activity. The pain already lasted for almost two years and debilitating. The patient was treated with the combi-nation of pharmacotherapy for treating the trigeminal neuralgia, physical therapy (jaw exercise) and stabilization appliance, in order to reduce the pain and restore the normal function of the lower jaw.It was concluded that trigeminal neuralgia and TMD can be treated simultaneously and obtained a good result.

Abstract

Abstract

Tourism holds great potential for regional development, particularly in culturally rich but underdeveloped areas like Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. However, limited human capital and fragmented stakeholder collaboration often hinder growth. This study explores the integration of the Cooperative Learning (CL) model into tourism education to enhance student competencies and support community-based tourism (CBT) development. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations, focus group discussions, and interviews with educators, students, tourism practitioners, and government officials. The findings reveal that CL significantly increased student engagement, strengthened English communication, leadership, and teamwork skills, and empowered students to lead real-world projects. These included the creation of 12 local tour packages, 7 digital promotional videos used by tourism offices, and the coordination of 5 village tourism events, contributing to increased local tourism visibility. Institutional support and cross-sector collaboration emerged as key success factors. The study concludes that embedding CL in tourism education not only enhances academic outcomes but also creates meaningful contributions to local tourism development. The model presented offers a replicable framework for aligning education with regional development goals, particularly in rural areas where tourism potential remains untapped

Abstract

The curriculum serves as a vital foundation for educational institutions. However, the transition from the previous curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum presents various challenges, especially at the vocational high school level. This study aims to identify the challenges and strategies in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum at SMK Negeri 2 Depok Sleman using fishbone analysis. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through semi-structured interviews involving vocational teachers who implement the Merdeka Curriculum, selected purposively, along with documentation as supporting evidence. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the main challenges lie in human resource preparedness, curriculum transition, and the misalignment of school programs with current industry demands. In response, the school has implemented several strategic steps, including curriculum socialization, teacher training, and industry collaboration. This research provides insights for educational institutions to develop curriculum policies and programs that meet industry needs and respond to the demands of the digital era.
