Abstract

This study aims to determine the amount of income obtained by cassava opak craftsmen and to analyze the feasibility of cassava opak craftsmen's business. This study was conducted in Candi Rejo Village and Sidodadi Village, Biru - Biru District, Deli Serdang Regency in February - March 2025. Sampling in this study used a purposive sampling method with 23 respondents. The data analysis methods used were Income Analysis and Feasibility Analysis. The results of this study are that the average income obtained by cassava opak craftsmen in 1 month is IDR 5,228,325 with an average cassava opak production of 600.347 Kg and a selling price of IDR 26,000 / kg. So that the income obtained is IDR 15,609,043 with a cost of IDR 10,380,178 in 1 month. The R/C ratio value obtained by the cassava opak craftsmen was 1.50 where the R/C value in the cassava opak making business was 1, with the interpretation that the cassava opak making business in Candi Rejo Village and Sidodadi Village is feasible to be attempted in running a cassava opak making business.

Abstract

This research aims to find out does the implementation of daily English speaking activities increase students’ confidence in speaking English? It is focused on implementation a structured program of daily speaking activities designed to create a supportive learning environment where students can practice and improve their speaking skills without the fear of judgment. The study involved 50 students of the second semester students of English Department of Mandalika University of Education. Over a semester, participants engaged in various speaking activities, including pair conversations, group discussions, and role-playing scenarios. Data were collected through pre- and post-program surveys, measuring students' self-reported confidence levels and fluency in English speaking. Results indicated a significant increase in student confidence, with the percentage of students feeling assured in their speaking abilities rising from 30% to 70% after the program. Additionally, qualitative feedback revealed that students valued the opportunity to practice speaking regularly and reported a decrease in anxiety associated with language use. This research highlights the importance of integrating daily speaking practices into language education curricula to foster a positive learning atmosphere. By encouraging active participation and providing consistent opportunities for speaking, educators can help students overcome barriers to communication, thus enhancing their overall language proficiency and confidence.

Abstract

Students' interest in learning is significantly impacted by their inability to speak English fluently. The assumption that English is a difficult subject reduces pupils' enthusiasm in learning it. The study discovered that pupils had difficulties pronouncing English words, leading them to become inactive when speaking English. This study is aimed at enhancing pupil’s speaking proficiency with motivational short movie. This study was conducted  through action research method. The subject  of this study was class VII-B MTS Negeri 3 West Lombok which consisted of 20 students. They learned how to speak by watching motivational short movie. Diary notes, interview forms, and observation sheets were the instruments employed. Speaking tests were administered by the researcher to gather data. To examine the data, the researcher used quantitative analysis. The study's results showed that the average 1st proficiency score was 55,5 and for the 2nd proficiency score was 64. Meanwhile the 3rd proficiency score was 79,5. However 70 % represented the overall progress percentage from the first proficiency test to the third proficiency test. Consequently, it can be inferred that by using Motivational Short Movie, pupils’ speaking proficiency scores increased. The improvement in pupils' speaking proficiency categorization is disclosed and it went from having an average score to a good score.  As the logical consequence they start speaking English more frequently.

Abstract

The study emphasizes the usage of integrating multimedia resources, such as YouTube, into language education curricula. By exposing students to a diverse range of authentic, engaging, and pedagogically sound video content, the learning experience was enriched, allowing for more contextualized language practice and the development of practical communication skills. This research intends to find out how the speaking performance of first-grade students after using YouTube as a learning tool on their speaking performance. A total of 30 students of MTS Negeri 3 Lombok Barat were chosen as participants. The method applied in the research was descriptive qualitative method which employed speaking test and interview to find out the students speaking performance in using YouTube.  Speaking test was conducted to assess the students’ English Speaking performance. It revealed the students excellence in content, pronunciation, and vocabulary. However, the students’ performance in grammar and fluency was categorized as good rather than excellent. The researchers assessed the students' speaking scores and categorized their performance into five levels: poor, fair, average, good, and excellent. The results revealed that 42% of the students reached the excellent level, while both the average and good levels accounted for 25% each. The fair and poor levels each represented 4%. Overall, the average students’ speaking performance after learning using YouTube was deemed good, reflecting the students' cognitive and mental readiness.

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal students’ strategies to deal with anxiety in performing speaking at Nurul Hakim Islamic Boarding School. The study was qualitative with case study design. The subjects of this study were eleventh grade students which were chosen through purposive sampling technique. The techniques of data collection were semi-structured interview and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display and data verification and conclusion. Methodological triangulation technique was used to provide valid data. The result of this study showed there were five strategies used by eleventh grade students at Nurul Hakim Islamic Boarding school to deal with anxiety: Rehearsal, Preparation, Cooperation, Self-talk and Relaxation. From the five strategies, Rehearsal is the dominant strategies used by students to deal with speaking anxiety. Except Preparation and Relaxation, the other strategies were claimed effective to reduce anxiety. The five strategies were classified into two classifications: Cognitive strategy and Social strategy. Cognitive strategy involves Rehearsal and Preparation, while Social strategy involves Cooperation, Self-talk, and Relaxation. In this study, there were no strategies that represent the Metacognitive strategy.
