Abstract

The low Mathematical Problem Solving Ability of eighth grade students of MTs Baitul Amal Pekanbaru is the background of this research. This research aims to improve the learning process to increase the mathematical problem-solving ability students o through the application of the Problem Based Learning model with the context of Riau Malay culture. This research is a Classroom Action Research. Observation techniques, discussion techniques, and test techniques are data collection techniques used in this research. The increase in students' mathematical problem-solving ability is seen from the results of the analysis of the percentage of students who obtained the maximum score and the qualifications of students' mathematical problem-solving ability. The results of the study indicate that the application of  Problem Based Learning with the context of Riau Malay culture can improve the learning process and increase the mathematical problem-solving ability of eighth grade students of MTs Baitul Amal Pekanbaru on the content of two-variable linear equation systems.

Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are essential competencies that students must possess. Many students still exhibit low levels of HOTS. This study aims to develop a Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) instrument in comparison content for Phase D students. The research employed a development studies model consisting of two main stages: the preliminary stage and formative evaluation. The formative evaluation stage comprised several steps, including self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field testing. The research subjects involved 30 Phase D students. Data were collected through validation sheets, student readability questionnaires, and HOTS test results, which were analyzed using Anates Uraian 4.0.5 software. The results indicated that the ten HOTS items developed met both rational and empirical validity criteria, showed very high reliability (0.95), had varying levels of difficulty (two easy, six moderate, and two difficult items), and demonstrated good discriminating power. Therefore, the developed HOTS instrument on comparison content is considered feasible to be used as an evaluation tool to enhance students’ critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Problem Based Learning–based teaching module on the topic of Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities to facilitate students’ mathematical problem-solving skills, with the criteria of validity and practicality. This research is a development study employing the 4D model, which consists of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. The development process includes several stages: (1) Define, which involves front-end analysis, learner analysis, concept analysis, task analysis, and the specification of learning objectives; (2) Design, which includes the preparation of test standards, media selection, format determination, and initial design; (3) Develop, which comprises expert validation and development trials; and (4) Disseminate, which involves the dissemination of the product through seminars and publications. The instruments used in this study were expert validation sheets to assess the validity of the teaching module and student response questionnaires to measure the practicality of the student worksheets (LKPD). The results indicate that the teaching module is valid in several aspects and meets the criteria of being very valid after revisions based on validators’ suggestions. Furthermore, the implementation of the LKPD in the small group and field test stages demonstrates that the LKPD is very practical. This is evidenced by the fact that the LKPD is easy for students to understand.
