Abstract

Interference is a common phenomenon in second language learning. However, the researchers are interested in analyzing interference from another point of view. This research aims at finding the types of Indonesian interference toward English found in outdoor advertisement boards and banners in Sukoharjo. The researchers use some theories dealing with interference such as the definition of interference and type of interference. This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research. Data of this research are English words, phrases, and sentences consisting of Indonesian interference toward English used in outdoor advertisement boards and banner. The data are taken from outdoor advertisement boards and banners in Sukoharjo. The technique of data collection used is observation then followed by writing technique. English words, phrases, and sentences with no interference are reduced. Then the data found are encoded with No data/Data/Kinds of Interference. The researchers use theory triangulation during this research. The researchers found 74 data of Indonesian interference toward English in outdoor advertisement boards and banners in Sukoharjo. After analyzing the data, the researchers found that there are 6 types of Indonesian interference toward English; (1) syntactic interference in the formation of phrase and sentence (2) Lexical interference in the case of borrowing words adapted into Indonesian spelling (3) Phonological interference in vowel sounds, consonant sounds, and semivowel sounds (4) Morphological interference in the process of affixation (5) Graphic interference in the spelling principle (6) Translation interference which happens because of direct translation. Abstract

In the case of translating children stories, translators need to be an extra careful since children stories are not just about fun, but children stories usually also contain moral messages. Different from translating texts for adults, the role of translators as a filter in translating children text is greater since unlike adult, children ability to do self-filter in absorbing any material they read is very weak. Therefore, translating this kind of text is certainly a challenge for translators: on one side they have to deliver the message, and on another they have to make sure that their translation should still deliver moral message to target readers. This research captures the effort of translators in trying to do both through their choice of translation techniques in translating children story Widget. The goal of the research is to investigate and to explain the translation techniques used by translators in translating Widget. The research employed qualitative analysis with the data in the form of sentences in the story with total sampling. The results of the research show that various translation techniques are chosen to deliver the message of the original text in the translation such as established equivalent, pure borrowing, explicitation, transposition, compensation, modulation, and reduction. In addition to that, some of them were chosen especially in order to deliver the target readers in terms of the culture of original text.

Abstract

Language for politics is different to other language style for the characteristic of politics that tends to be serious. However, this serious message can be delivered more relax with cartoon or can be called, now, as meme. This research belongs to qualitative research, the data of the research is political meme in instagram account. The data were collected by using documentation and simak catat method. Validity of data was found by using triangulation theories and all the data were analyzed by using Interactive Models by Miles and Huberman. From the research results of the political meme on the Instagram account comikita. ig and polyclitik can be concluded as follows: 1) The forms of speech in political memes are news, questions, commands and excitement 2) The implications of the implications contained in political memes in the form of political talks that lead to the development of conflicts in the form of political orders, political feelings in the form of threats from political figures, journalist independence, political promises, innuendos, political orders, political anger, political outcry, political regret. These political messages lead to political emotions that worsen political conflict. k Bahasa politik berbeda dengan ragam bahasa lainnya karena sifat atau muatan politik yang cenderung serius. Namun demikian, pesan yang serius ini bisa disampaikan dengan gaya yang lebih ringan melalui gambar kartun atau yang sekarang ini terkenal dengan sebutan meme. Metode penelitian ini merupakan metode penelitian deskripstif kualitatif. Data dalam penetlitian ini adalah meme politik yang terdapat pada akun instagram. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode dokumentasi dan metode simak catat. Data dalam akun instragram di screenshot kemudian disimak dengan teliti semua ujaran yang ada dalam akun tersebut untuk kemudian dicatat dalam kartu data. Validitas data dilakukan dengan menggunakan triangulasi teori dan teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman. Dari hasil penelitian meme politik akun instagram komikkita.ig dan poliklitik dapat disimpulkan sebagai berikut: 1. Bentuk tuturan meme politik tersebut adalah berita, tanya, perintah dan seru. 2. Makna implikatur yang terdapat dalam meme politik berupa pembicaraan politik yang mengarah kepada pengembangan konflik berupa perintah politik, perasaan politik yang berupa ancaman dari tokoh politik, independensi jurnalis, janji-janji politik, sindiran-sindiran, perintah politik, kemarahan politik, teriakan politik, penyesalan politik. Pesan-pesan politik tersebut mengarah pada emosi politik yang memperkeruh konflik politik.

Abstract

The research aims at describing the types and functions of speech acts in the tourism slogan in Indonesia. There has already been much research on tourism slogan, but only a few studies focusing on linguistics. To broaden the study of tourism slogans from a linguistics perspective, the research focuses on the speech acts in the tourism slogans. It belongs to descriptive qualitative research by focusing on the phenomena of tourism slogans in society. The data of the research are tourism slogans of some cities in Indonesia found on the internet. The technique of data collection used is content analysis. The technique of data analysis consists of data reduction, data display, and verification. There is no data reduction in this research. Data is displayed in the table and the last step data is analyzed based on the problem statements. The researchers found 31 data of tourism slogans. There are 4 types of speech acts in tourism slogans namely representative speech acts (13 data), directive speech acts (7 data), commissive speech acts (3 data), and expressive speech acts (8 data). The researchers find 3 functions of speech acts in the tourism slogan such as giving information about the history of the city, nickname of the city, hope or idea of the city (19 data), asking (7 data), and promising (5 data). The findings show that there is a tendency to be very simple in the slogans found. Besides, the slogans come with an exclusive appeal by emphasizing the effective component in the message.Keywords: tourism, slogans, speech acts.

Abstract

It was such a descriptive qualitative research that aims at describing the occurrence of the interference of Indonesian language toward facebook status in English language. The data were the words, phrases or sentences containing Indonesian interference toward English status on facebook. The source of the data was the statuses on the researchers’ facebook home. The data were collected through observation and documentation. Observation was carried out by observing the words on the facebook statuses using English language. They then were documented by applying print screen (capturing the picture using computer) or screen shoot (capturing the picture using cellphone). The result of the research showed the occurrence of 3 types of Indonesian interference on English status on facebook, namely lexical, morphological, and syntactical interference. However, syntactical interference mostly occurred on English status on facebook that appeared in the forms of subject-verb agreement (ellipsis be, negative forms), parallelism (verb and adjective), and verb use (verb as complement, construction of preposition and verb, construction of modal and verb, construction of verb and adverb, and tenses).

Abstract

Abstrak.Iklan Politik Media Luar Ruang Honda Hendarto tampil dengan ciri khusus menggunakan bahasa karikatur. Iklan ini  biasanya menampilkan kandidat dengan gambar nyata  yaitu : photo kandidat  dengan gesture tertentu , logo partai politik, nama partai politik, tag line, nomor urut, background warna partai,  dan nama caleg. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami makna konotatif kontruksi dan makna konfiguratif tanda non verbal dan verbal karikatur iklan politik media luar ruang honda Hendarto. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah dengan teknik menyimak.  Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah tanda non verbal Karikatur   Iklan Politik Media Luar Ruang Honda Hendarto dan tanda verbal peribahasa Jangan Membeli Kucing dalam Karung. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah  analisa semiotika dan pandangan stilistika Hasil penelitian ini adalah bahwa Karitur tersebut memiliki makna konotatif :  1) tentang sosok Honda Hendarto yang ingin membangun mitos dirinya,  sebagai seorang pemikir besar, visioner , ramah, sederhana, memiliki solidaritas, menghargai tradisi masyarakat, tulus, kuat, berwibawa, memiliki keinginan kuat, berjuang untuk rakyat, menyerap aspirasi rakyat, mewujudkan harapan rakyat dan menjadi jembatan antar rakyat,  pemerintah dan wakil rakyat 2)  Pendidikan politik kepada pemilih untuk berpikir  kritis saat memilih Presiden dan Wakil Presiden, wakil rakyat, sehingga mengetahui kondisi orang yang dipilihnya, yang menyangkut  kinerja, visi misi, program kerja dan citra pribadinya,  seperti  peribahasa jangan membeli kucing dalam karung, yang termasuk dalam bagian transasksi gharar. Transaksi gharara dalah  semua transaksi  yang mengandung (al-jahalah) ketidakjelasan,(al-khathr) pertaruhan, atau perjudian. Peribahasa ini unsur yang paling menonjol  (foregrounding) dalam karikatur tersebut dan termasuk dalam bahasa konfiguratif metafora. Kata kunci: Karikatur, Membangun Mitos, Jargon Abstract. Honda Hendarto’s outdoor political advertising mediahas provided a special representation through its caricature. Such media introduces a political candidate by showing several features, which includethe candidate’s photo, particular gesture as the unique communication symbol, political party’s logo, name, tagline, serial number, party’s background color, and the candidate’s name. The article aims to comprehend the constructive and configurative meaningsof Honda Hendarto’s Outdoor Political Advertising Media through its verbal and nonverbal symbols. It deployed a content analysis for its data collecting technique. The data source consisted of the non-verbal symbolsof Honda Hendarto’sOutdoor Advertising Media in the form of caricature and its verbal symbols that promote a proverb Don’t buy a cat in a sack (which is similar to English proverb Don’t buy a pig in a poke). It utilized Semiotics and Stylistics Analysis techniques. The findings revealed that the caricature contains connotative meanings, which include: 1.) Honda Hendartowills to establish a public paradigm for his profile through several great labels, which includehis self-representation as a scholar, visionary, as well as humble and friendly figure who upholds solidarity, traditions, sincerity, strength, excellentmanner, persistence, struggle, public aspiration, and transparent communication among citizens and People’s Representatives Council; 2.) The value of political education through the advice Don’t buy a cat in a sack encourages the public to critically evaluate their candidates of President and Vice President aswell as legislature members based on their performance, vision and mission, programs, and profiles. In regards, to the political education, Honda Hendarto’sOutdoor Advertising Media hasprovoked the public awarenessin avoidingal-jahalah(unclarity) and alkhathr (gamble) which are the parts of gharar (uncertainty) that probably happensin the votes of General Election. The proverb Don’t buy a cat in a sackimplies the caricature’sforegrounding message, as it belongs to a metaphor.  Keywords: Caricature, establishing public paradigm, tagline

Abstract

During this pandemic, all sectors have collapsed, even the education sector, which is accustomed to face-to-face classes, has become mandatory for offline or online classes, so English teachers are also required to be more creative in developing learning media. Although English is a compulsory subject, the results attained from English subject are not very satisfying. Learning activities is one of the stages that determines the success of student learning. The quality of education and teaching can be enhanced by optimizing several elements such as students, teachers, learning indicators, lesson content, methods, media, and evaluation. Because of the importance of reading material for students, the Bangun Nusantara Sukoharjo Veteran University service team offers Kahoot application training for class X SMA Veteran 01 Sukoharjo. The method utilizsd in this method is a quiz that is taught to class X students according to the lesson plans and syllabus of class X students, as well as the reading material given. The target to be achieved from this service is to increase knowledge and instruction about reading training using Kahoot media for class X SMA Veteran 01 Sukoharjo. In addition, this dedication is expected to be able to achieve several things, nemely: (1) the teacher knows more about the ability of each student in reading comprehension; (2) teachers can think logically and systematically by utilizing existing media in answering quizzes through reading training; (3) students are assisted in learning to think from a point of view in thinking practice; (4) teachers can further develop students' motivation to learn; and (5) students are actively involved in class planning and management.

Abstract

The study aims to find the quality of translation children story by the theme “Dorothy and Mikey” from English to Indonesian. The Study used qualitative method by using accuracy of translation. Data used all of senteces in the pictures children story the tittle is “Dorothy and Mikey”. Sources of data contain document, children story book in English and it translation. We used forum group discussion to analyze document. The findings that 82 data or 84,54% accurate and 15 data or 15,46% less accurate in the Dorothy and Mikey story.

Abstract

Dalam penelitian ini kita belajar bahasa Inggris karena bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa Internasional. Pemerintah Indonesia sendiri mengeluarkan kebijakan bahwa bahasa Inggris wajib kita pelajari dan diajarkan di sekolah. Meskipun bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran wajib namun hasil yang didapat dari pelajaran bahasa Inggris belum begitu memuaskan. Kegiatan pembelajaran adalah salah satu tahap yang sangat menentukan keberhasilan belajar siswa. Upaya untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan dan pengajaran dapat dilakukan terhadap berbagai ko mponen seperti: siswa, guru, indikator pembelajaran, isi pelajaran, metode, media, dan evaluasi. Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengajaran vocabulary dengan meggunakan Clash of Clans Games. Dengan adanya aplikasi baru dalam pengajaran diharapkan siswa tertarik menambah kosakatanya dalam bahasa Inggris. Yakni dengan menggunakan Clash of Clans Games. Metode penelitian yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian deskriptif qualitatif Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan kegunaan da ri Clash of Clans Games ini untuk mengajar Vocabulary bagi siswa kelas IV SDN Jombor

Abstract

The aim of this research is; (1) to know the ability of the students’ reading skills, and also to give and increase the students’ understanding in the reading text. ; 2) to know the difference of the students’ reading ability by repeating the reading text after their lecturer reads; 3) to know how far is the students non English to understand the English text by giving attention to the vocabulary of the texts to get the clear understanding. This research used descriptive qualitative researchthis research has done to get the clear information between one and the other, so the information from the source did not miss and change. Based on the data that has been collected through observation, interview, and documentation. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that: (1) it has an improvement in students’ understanding the reading text; (2) there was also an interference from the team in teaching learning activies; 3) the non English students got a lot of vocabularies after doing this research.
