Abstract

Potato growth is influenced by seed provenance and fertilization, but the availability of high-quality potato seeds is still limited. To overcome those challenges, solutions include using temperature-tolerant potato varieties from medium plains and applying organic fertilizers to improve potato growth and yield. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the interaction between seed provenance and application of organic fertilizers on the growth and yield of G2 potato seeds of the Medians cultivar in the Jatinangor medium plains. The research was conducted from June to October 2023 at the Ciparanje Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor. The research design used was a Factorial Randomized Group Design (RBD). The first factor is the provenance of the potato seeds from the medium and high plains. The second factor is the type of organic fertilizer, namely chicken manure, cow manure, and guano fertilizer. The results showed that there was no interaction between the seed provenance and types of organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of G2 potato seeds of the Medians cultivar in Jatinangor medium plains. The use of seeds from medium plains had a significant effect on plant height, plant dry weight, and the percentage of stolons forming tubers. The application of cow manures with a dose of 225 g gave the best effect on leaf area, the number of tubers, and the weight of tubers per plant.

Abstract

Kaffir lime is popularly used by woman, especially housewives for cooking Indonesia dishes. The purpose of present activity was to provide simple guidance on growing kaffir lime for housewives at Pajagan Village, Sumedang, West Java. This counseling was provided for 20 housewives who are members of the Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK) organization in Pajagan Village. The simple guidance is provided to housewives for planting kaffir lime in their yard, as follows: selecting best seedling, correct transplanting, regular irrigation, effective and efficient fertilizer application and proper harvesting. Housewives were each given one kaffir lime seedling to use as planting practice material. Housewives were very happy, grateful and believed to be more independent in terms of food spice. This activity is hoped to empower housewives to cultivate kaffir lime on their own yard for their daily spice needs.

Abstract

Lettuce plants are cool-season leaf vegetables, if grown in areas near the city center with high temperatures can reduce the quantity and quality of the yield. The low temperature in the root zone in the hydroponic system was the solution. This experiment aimed to determine the effect of nutrient solution temperature and variety on the growth and yield of lettuce plants in the nutrient film technique (NFT) system. The experimental design used was a Randomized Block Design with 6 treatments (a combination of solution temperatures 25, 16, and 10 ℃; Red and Green lettuce). The result showed no significant effect of the treatment on the number of leaves 0-20 days after planting (DAP) and root length. Nutrient solution temperature +10 ℃ gave the best response to the number of leaves (13.08 sheets), plant height (20.80 cm), root volume (18.88 mL), and fresh weight (137.08 g) of green lettuce plants.

Abstract

Red-fleshed dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has gained popularity in Indonesia due to its nutritional value and economic potential. This work was aimed to report the community service about dragon fruit cultivation in Pareugreug Hill, Pajagan Village, Sumedang. The consultation was held during January to February 2025. This study documented the sustainable agricultural practices such as implementation of vegetative propagation, organic fertilization, and natural climbing supports for dragon fruit. At 15 months after planting, 5% of the 400 plants had entered the fruiting stage. However, challenges such as pathogen attacks remain, requiring further research to improve disease management and ensure sustainable cultivation.

Abstract

Low bean production in Indonesia is caused by several factors such as poor soil condition and low quality of the pods. The use of granular organic fertilizer can optimize soil as a growing medium of beans. In addition, the application of harvest interval setting in combination with the use of granular organic fertilizer probably can  improve production and quality bean pods. The research aimed to find out granular organic fertilizer doses and harvest interval setting that resulted in good effects on the growth, yield, and quality of beans grown on Inceptisol from Jatinangor, West Java. A field experiment was carried out at Ciparanje field, Jatinangor, West Java from February to April 2016. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 12 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed that the dose of 150 kg ha-1 granular organic fertilizer and harvest interval of every two days resulted in shoot:root ratio of 12.8, increased percentage of productive branches up to 57.48%, increased percentage of grade B pods (60.17%) and lowered the percentage of grade C pods (29.21%).

Abstract

Despite the fact that micronutrients are crucial for the growth, metabolism, and crop yield of plants, they are required in relatively small proportions. The recent advancements in agriculture have resulted in the development of biostimulant products that are abundant in micronutrients which is advantageous. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the potential of micronutrient-enriched biostimulants (MB) to enhance the quality characteristics of chili fruits. This study was conducted at Jatinangor, West Java. The experimental plots were laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with seven treatments and repeated four times, so the total number of treatments was 28 units. The treatments consist of farmer practice and doses of 0.75; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0; 2.5 and 3.0 L ha-1 MB. The results of this experiment indicated that the treatments with doses of 2.0–3.0 L ha-1 were consistently preferable in terms of fruit quality, yield, and growth. Plants that were more productive, capable of grading fruit, and had a slightly extended shelf life after harvest were the final result of the biostimulant product, which contained micronutrients. The farmer's practice consistently failed to meet the standards of all the treated sites. The combination of biostimulants and micronutrients significantly enhanced the physiological and reproductive functions of chilies.
