Abstract

Abstract

Quadratic equations are essential material that students need to master. Based on several studies, many students have not mastered the material because they have not mastered the prerequisite skills and find solutions. This study aims to describe the learning design of quadratic equations using ICT, namely the Algebra Tile app, to understand the concept and reduce students' math anxiety regarding Cone of Experience Theory, Information Processing Theory, and Genesis Instrumentation Theory. The material is limited to quadratic equations with rational roots. The design of learning quadratic equations using ICT refers to three stages of development, namely: (1) analysis stage, (2) design stage, and (3) development stage. The results showed that the learning design was valid, practical, and effective. Using algebraic tile applets helped students factor in quadratic equations and lowered their anxiety during learning. Furthermore, the efforts made by the teacher by dividing students into several groups during learning, providing learning videos, ice breaking, and a short pause after conveying the concept can reduce students' anxiety.

Abstract

This study aims to develop flash-based learning media for whole numbers and fractions for deaf children of class V that are valid, practical, and effective in training students to be skilled in solving whole number and fraction problems. The learning media is equipped with a video using SIBI (Indonesian Sign Language System) to make it easier for deaf students to understand the content of the media. This research using 6 stages referring to the Luther-Sutopo development model, namely: concept, design, material, collection, assembly, testing, and distribution. The instruments in this development research were the media validation sheet and the student response questionnaire sheet. The results of the development research are: (1) there are no misconceptions and all media functions can run well and the media validation score is 4.63 so that the media developed is valid, (2) the student response questionnaire is declared valid with a score of 4.73 so that it can be used in the study, (3) the media practicality score after being tested was 4.74 so that the media was declared practical, (4) 75% of students obtained a KKM score, this shows that students are skilled in solving whole number and fraction problems, so the media is said to be effective.

Abstract

The results of the 2018 PISA test show that Indonesian students' math ability scores are ranked 7th from the bottom. This shows that the numeracy skills of Indonesian students are low. Based on an interview with one of the teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Pakis, information was obtained that the numeracy skills of students at SMP Negeri 1 Pakis were low. This is due to students' lack of numeracy questions, and teachers often give routine questions requiring procedural skills. This is a classroom action research that explores the teacher's actions to improve the numeracy skills of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Pakis Malang by giving problem cards. The research subjects were 32 Class VII D students of SMP Negeri 1 Pakis Malang in the academic year 2021/2022. The research instruments include lesson plans, problem cards, test questions, observation sheets, interview guidelines, and field notes. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, presenting data, and drawing conclusions and verification. The results showed an increase in students with a KKM score of 30.77% and Classical Learning Completeness of 26.26%. The study shows that giving problem cards can improve students' numeracy skills. Through the Problem Card, students are allowed to write down the information asked in their language and are given guidance/instructions to solve the given problem.

Abstract

This study investigates students' mathematical justification abilities in analyzing answers obtained from one of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based services, namely ChatGPT. The subjects of this descriptive qualitative study are 13 fourth-semester students of STKIP-PGRI Bandar Lampung. They were asked to utilize ChatGPT to solve two linear equation system questions adopted from Indonesian university entrance tests in 2019. The students were then requested to analyze and justify the responses generated by ChatGPT. The justifications from students were then analyzed to see their abilities and determine whether the answers from ChatGPT were correct. As many as 61.54% of the respondents could understand the instructions of the two questions and provide reviews for the answers generated by ChatGPT. 38.46% of the respondents did not understand the questions' instructions. The results showed that students may have lacked the necessary ability to analyze the AI-generated answers in depth and explain them in detail. This may be due to weak mastery of the basic concepts of the material and a lack of accuracy. The findings call for paying more attention to students' mathematical justification abilities in the current AI-assisted era.
