Abstract

Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi kecemasan berbicara yang dialami oleh mahasiswa yang belajar di Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Indonesia. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini mengadopsi dua instrumen; wawancara semi-struktur dan kuesioner dalam mengumpulkan data. Dipilih dua responden yang berbeda, mahasiswa yang belajar di universitas swasta dan mereka yang belajar di universitas negeri. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa beberapa penyebab utama kegelisahan berbicara di universitas negeri terutama dipengaruhi oleh mengembangkan topik dan perasaan khawatir. Namun, mahasiswa di universitas swasta mengklaim bahwa penyebab utama mereka dilihat dari kepercayaan diri; tentang kesalahan dan perilaku dosen dalam proses speaking. Studi ini bermanfaat dalam memperkaya literatur program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, terutama di negara Indonesia dan negara lain yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing. Penting untuk diperhatikan bahwa suara mahasiswa sangat penting untuk didengarkan, sebagai umpan balik bagi guru atau dosen Bahasa Inggris untuk mengeksplorasi tingkat kecemasan berbicara siswa mereka. Penelitian Ini bertujuan menerapkan metode pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang tepat dan lebih efektif.   Kata kunci: Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Berbicara, Kecemasan Berbicara Abstract  This study identifies speaking anxiety experienced by students studying in English Education Department in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, this research adopted two instrument; semi-structure interview and questionnaire in collecting data. Selected two different participants, students studying in private university and those studying in public university. The findings suggest that several major causes of speaking anxiety at public university were primarily affected by developing topics and feeling of worry. However, students in private university claimed that their major cause is seen from self-assurance; concerning mistakes and lecturers? behavior within speaking performance. This study is beneficial in enriching literature of English education study program, especially in the country of Indonesia and others adopting English as a foreign language. It is important to be highlighted that students? voice is valueable to listen, as a feedback for English teachers or lecturers to explore their students? speaking anxiety level. This is aimed at applying suitable and a more effective teaching and learning method.    Keywords: English Education, Speaking, Speaking Anxiety

Abstract

Abstrak This study explores an improving students’ reading comprehension by using problem-based learning strategy by formulating quasi-experimental design of Darma Yudha Junior High School. Reading is one of subject that some of Indonesia students faced many difficulties to understand for some reasons. The strategy selection has an important role to create the expectation of the teachers that can be answered by the implementation of creative method, interested materials or enjoyable learning process. Problem-based learning (PBL) is one of strategy of expressing ideas to experience real life context to build critical thinking and problem solving skill. In problem-based learning, students work in collaborative groups to identify what they need to learn in order to solve a problem. The goals of problem-based learning include helping students develop; 1) flexible knowledge, 2) effective problem-solving skills, 3) effective collaboration skills, 4) life-wide learning and 5) intrinsic motivation. In other hand; PBL is well suited to helping students become active learners because it situates learning in real-world problems and makes students responsible for their learning. Based on the result of research, it is found that PBL is one of instructional strategy that offers potentials help to improve students’ reading comprehension and motivation.
