Abstract

Stroke is an important disease to overcome because of its high prevalence and tends to continue to increase and its impact that can cause disability to death. The condition of stroke is often a chronic condition, that requires continued treatment at home. Family is an important component in the recovery process of a patient, including stroke survivors. The task of care that was previously mostly the responsibility of health workers at the hospital, has turned into a family health task. Families can help the rehabilitation process by helping the stroke patients perform ROM exercises. However, most families do not have adequate knowledge and skills about ROM exercises. This study aims to identify the effect of providing health education about ROM exercises on the knowledge and skills of families of stroke survivors at home. This research is pre-experimental research, with a one group pre-test-post-tests design. The sample is the family of stroke patients who are treated at home. Knowledge and skills were measured using questionnaires and checklists. The results of paired t-test on knowledge and skills before and after health education showed the effect of health education on increasing family knowledge and skills (ρ – value = 0.000; = 0.05). Health education about ROM needs to be performed routinely and repeatedly as part of the rehabilitation of stroke patients at home. Future research needs to focus on the correlation between family knowledge about ROM and the improvement of muscle strength in stroke patients at home.

Abstract

Almost ten thousand people are affected by cardiac arrest, and the prevalence tends to increase every year in Indonesia. Nursing students need to have skills in performing basic life support (BLS) to increase the survival rate of patients with cardiac arrest inside or outside the hospital. An effective method for facilitating students in gaining such skills is educational simulation. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of the simulation method in improving students' skills in providing BLS. This is a quantitative quasi-experiment with a pre-posttest design. The sample is all fourth-year students in Nursing at Poltekkes Kemenkes Mataram who have had emergency classes in the previous semester. Data were collected using observation sheets and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to identify students' skills before and after they were given educational simulations. Before the educational video method was implemented, most respondents had insufficient skills in carrying out BLS, with 11 people (55%) falling into this category. Only two respondents (10%) demonstrated good skills in conducting BLS. After the simulation, all respondents acquired the skills to perform BLS in the "good" category, with 32 people (82%) exhibiting these skills. There were no respondents who had sufficient or poor BLS skills. Educational simulation significantly influenced students' skills in performing BLS (p=0.000). It can be concluded that the simulation method was effective in improving the students' skills in performing BLS. Educational simulation of BLS can be applied as an alternative method in the learning process.

Abstract

Invasif procedure is a procedure that is often performed on children. This procedure is related to needles that causes pain in children. Children who experienced pain during invasif procedure need treatment to avoid trauma. It is necessary to apply atraumatic care through the use of interventions that eliminate or minimize the psychological and physical distress suffered by children, one of which is the use of vibrators with music and cold compresses to minimize pain. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of giving a baby shark vibrator compare with vapoocoolant spray against pain in children undergoing invasif procedure such as injection and venipuncture. The researcher divided the respondents into 2 groups, the intervention group (baby shark vibrator) and the control group (vapocoolant spray) which are taken randomly with a total of 60 children participating in this study. The assessment of children's pain using the FLACC instrument (face, legs, activity, cry and consolability). The results of statistical tests showed that there was a no significant difference in pain in the intervention group and the control group (p=0.077). The use of a baby shark vibrator can be an alternative to reduce pain in children during invasif procedure because for some children, it is more convenient and distracting.

Abstract

One of the keys to a person suffering from diabetes mellitus being able to live a healthy life like other people without diabetes is to maintain balanced blood glucose levels within normal limits. One important way to reduce blood glucose levels, especially in type 2 DM sufferers, is exercise. This study aims to identify the effect of aerobic exercise, on changes in blood glucose levels. This research is a pre-experimental research with a one group pre-posttest approach. The research sample was 33 people suffering from type 2 DM at the Lingsar Community Health Center, selected using a simple random sampling technique. Each respondent was given aerobic exercise 3 times a week with a minimum duration of 20 minutes. Data on blood glucose levels before and after the intervention were collected using an observation sheet. The results of the study showed that the average blood glucose before the intervention was 162.2 mg/dL and after the intervention it fell to 156.14 mg/dL. The t-test with a=0.05 showed r=0.000. It can be concluded that there is an effect of aerobic exercise on the respondents' blood glucose levels. Aerobic exercise has been proven to reduce the average blood glucose level after this is done regularly. This study results can be an evidenced base for community nursing to promote regular aerobic exercise among people with DM, to help reduce or control their blood glucose.

Abstract

Stunting is still a public health problem, including in Mataram City, where the prevalence reaches 26.8%. The highest prevalence of stunting among 11 Health Centers in Mataram City is in the Karang Pule Health Center working area, which is 22.39%. Especially in Jempong Village, the percentage of stunted toddlers is 32%, with 22 children in West Jempong and 24 children in East Jempong. Something that is closely related to the incidence of stunting and stunted child development is the provision of nutrition from infants to toddlers. In this case, the role of parents, especially mothers in providing adequate nutritional intake for children, is very important. Mothers and health cadres complain about the difficulty of feeding children who have difficulty eating, who are picky eaters and only want to eat non-nutritious foods. Thus, the solution to the problem provided is to optimize the role of health cadres in fulfilling the nutritional needs of infants and toddlers for the prevention and treatment of stunting. This optimization activity is carried out by providing education to maternal and child health cadres to optimize the role of cadres in assisting mothers in meeting their children's nutritional needs.

Abstract

Pneumonia is an acute infectious disease that occurs in toddlers caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Risk factors for pneumonia are prematurity, BBLR, lack of exclusive breast milk, cigarette smoke, air pollution and congenital heart defects. The death rate of children under five in the world due to pneumonia in 2019 began to decline but the decline was lower than other infectious diseases. Data shows that pneumonia and diarrhea cause 2 million children to die each year. Toddler pneumonia in Indonesia is the second leading cause of death, with a mortality rate of 0.16% for toddlers, while West Java is among the 10 provinces with the most pneumonia cases, and Tasikmalaya Regency is among the 10 most regions with 1,814 cases of toddler pneumonia. Based on these data, appropriate management is needed to reduce the morbidity and mortality of pneumonia in toddlers. The research method is a quasi-experimental design of a pre-test post test with a control group design. The population of all hospitalized toddlers, the number of 30 respondents for the intervention group and the control group used time-based accidental sampling. Data analysis was univariate and bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and the Mann Whitney-U test. The research instrument used questionnaires, namely demographic data, Perceived Disease Severity Scale, childcare stress questionnaire, child quality of life questionnaire (PedsQLTM 4.0), and satisfaction questionnaire. The results showed that the interventions given in the intervention group showed that there was an effect of the Continuing Nursing Care Program on quality of life p-value 0.007, nursing stress (p-value 0.006), and hospitalization satisfaction (p-value 0.011), as well as inpatient satisfaction in the control group (p-value 0.044). This shows that the Continuing Nursing Care Program is effective in providing nursing care for toddlers with pneumonia in hospitals.
