Abstract

This study explores the representation of female resistance to arranged marriage in contemporary Madurese song lyrics. The analysis focuses on three songs: Benni Peleyan Bula (2014) by Yuli Asiska, Mateh Rassa (2022), and Mile Reng Towah (2024) by Ahmed Habsy. Using a qualitative approach with ethnofeminism and literary futurology as analytical frameworks, the findings reveal that resistance does not always appear as direct defiance but is expressed through forms such as active resignation, emotional disappointment, and reflective awareness. These expressions signify a shift in cultural values and the emergence of new social imaginaries within Madurese society. Song lyrics serve not only as entertainment but also as symbolic spaces where women negotiate identity, express dissent, and envision a more gender-equitable future. Through emotional narratives, these songs project alternative cultural futures where women possess greater autonomy in choosing their life partners and defining their own happiness.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the manifestation of liberative ethics in selected short stories published in the 2023 edition of the Kompas daily, through the perspective of prophetic literature as formulated by Kuntowijoyo. Liberative ethics is understood as an effort to emancipate human beings from alienation and oppressive, unjust social structures. Employing a descriptive qualitative method and content analysis techniques, this study examines five short stories that embody a spirit of resistance against social, economic, and cultural constraints. The findings reveal that liberative ethics in the 2023 Kompas short stories is reflected in the characters’ courage to challenge injustice and their efforts to break free from hegemonic power structures that restrict human dignity. This study concludes that prophetic literature remains relevant as a critical instrument for social critique within contemporary Indonesian literary discourse

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of fostering empathy in literature education amidst a modern social reality that tends to foster alienation and the decline of human harmony. Literature has the potential to serve as a reflective and therapeutic medium. However, its application in bibliotherapy-based learning integrated with a hermeneutic approach remains limited. This study aims to analyse the representation of empathy in the short story “Jakarta” by Totilawati Tjitrawasita and to examine its function as a bibliotherapy medium in literature education. The study engaged a qualitative approach with a hermeneutic interpretative method. Textual data were analysed through critical reading and interpretation based on the relationship between parts and the whole text. The findings indicate that this short story contains strong cognitive and affective empathy through the relationships between characters and the inner experiences of the main characters. The findings further illustrate that the character’s alienation represents social inequality and shifting values in modern society. Furthermore, this short story fulfills the stages of bibliotherapy, namely identification, catharsis, and insight, which demonstrate the reader’s emotional and reflective engagement. The study has demonstrated that the short story “Jakarta” can be harnessed as a bibliotherapy-based learning medium to enhance empathy and social awareness.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The ability to write descriptive texts in German language learning remains a challenge for students due to limitations in developing ideas, using appropriate vocabulary, and constructing sentences according to grammatical rules. This condition emphasizes the importance of implementing learning strategies that encourage more participatory learning activities, are contextually relevant, and foster students’ creativity. Therefore, this study focused on improving descriptive writing skills in German through the implementation of Project-Based Learning supported by the Pixton digital comic media. This study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which was conducted in two learning cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research involved 36 students of class XI-8 at SMAN 1 Driyorejo as the research subjects. Data collection techniques included writing skill tests, observations of learning activities, and documentation of the projects produced by students. The research data were analyzed descriptively using quantitative and qualitative approaches to identify improvements in learning achievement as well as the development of students’ participation during the learning process. The findings demonstrated a progressive improvement in students’ writing skills. The average learning outcomes increased gradually from 53 before the intervention to 68 in the first cycle and 82 in the second cycle. In addition to improving academic achievement, the use of Pixton media also assisted students in organizing ideas more systematically, expanding vocabulary mastery, improving grammatical accuracy, and encouraging active participation throughout the learning process. Thus, this study indicates that the integration of Project-Based Learning and digital visual media can serve as an effective instructional innovation for enhancing German writing skills at the secondary school level.
