This study aimed to explore the effect of independent directors of a publicly listed firm in Indonesia on their total compensation. Following the footsteps of other developing countries, Indonesian corporations have recently appointed more independent directors. Independent directors are thought to play an important role in determining executive compensation. This Paper takes a sample of 50 publicly listed firms in Indonesia ranked as the “best of the best firm in 2020” by well-known business magazine, Forbes. Those 50 firms were filtered by their financial performance and their practice of good corporate governance. 50 Financial reports spanning from the year 2015 – 2019 listed in the list were collected to analyze the relationship between the number of independent directors and total compensation received. The results of the studies suggest that the number of independent directors does influence their total compensation received. There is a significant positive relationship between the number of independent directors in a board structure and their total compensation received.

This study aims to analyze the effect of Women on Board, Director Educational Background, and Intellectual Capital (IC) on banking performance as measured by ROA and ROE in the 2016-2020 period. This study adopts the Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC) as an IC indicator, but adds a focus on the implications of individual components on company performance. The results of the study reveal that VAIC has a direct positive significant effect on ROA and ROE. The percentage of women on the board of directors was found to have a significant negative effect on ROA and ROE. The educational background (Edu) of the board of directors shows a positive and insignificant effect on ROA and ROE. The results of the analysis of the individual components of VAIC show that HCE has a significant positive effect on ROE, which means that banks prefer HCE as a financial predictor that can increase the bank's ability to generate net income for investors. Meanwhile, for ROA indicators, banks prefer CEE to be an important component to improve performance, in line with research results which show a significant positive effect. In line with technological developments, the bank is very focused and considers human resources the most to increase profitability.

This study investigates whether CEO busyness have an impact on company performance, and if this relationship is moderated by female CEOs by analyzing all company sectors apart from finance, insurance, and property that are included in the Kompas 100 index listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the 2017-2020 period. Our findings have shown that the presence of a busy CEO will cause a decrease in company performance. In addition, we also found that negative relationship is stronger in companies whose CEOs are female. For firms and shareholders, our findings indicate that it is not a good idea for CEOs to hold more than one outside directorships, especially those who occupy the position of CEO are female. Our results suggest that restrictions on CEO busyness would be beneficial to shareholders.

Purpose – This research examines female board independence and influence on company performance. The concept of female leaders in work should be discussed since gender inequality assumes that they are considered not socially accepted, have a non-business background, and are appointed due to nepotism. Methodology – The research uses a quantitative approach - research data from companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the KOMPAS100 index from August 2021 to January 2022. The data was collected from the company’s financial reports from 2014 to 2020. Findings – It was found that both Tobin’s Q and ROA were significantly negative for female board independency. It reduces the effectiveness of a company’s profitability. Females are considered incompetent since they were appointed for family ties and not based on skills or qualifications. The robustness test reveals that the female board independence dummy test with Tobin’s Q and ROA is considerably negative. Furthermore, female board members do not affect the company’s success or ability to persuade investors. Originality – Females are discouraged from serving as independent members to avoid harmful performance impacts. Therefore, the idea of considering them as members of the board of independence should be discouraged, as it will affect the opinions of investors.
