Abstract

Garbage is a part of human life that’s an object/remaining substance that’s no longer useful. Waste should receive attention and serious treatment. However, due to the lack of understanding from the community and the government, insufficient funding and revenue of the majority of community, hence this waste problem has been neglected. Today, most people have already understood the problems that may be caused by the garbage, for instance floods, diseases and smell that can disrupt the daily lives of our community. However, this isn’t accompanied by the action of the people themselves. The purpose of this study is to spread public awareness on how to properly treat waste and how to distinguish types of organic and inorganic waste. This study is also to find out the benefits that can be obtained from waste, build a healthy environment that’s free from pollution, and find a solution to environmental sanitation, specifically rural waste management. This research was conducted at Tanjung Uncang RT 01 RW 15. Research data collection was done based on our observations. The result obtained from the research shows a lack of action from Tanjung Uncang community against waste. From the research conducted by the author, it can be concluded that the people of Tanjung Ucang have good knowledge about waste but bad behavior towards garbage management, mostly due to the lack of attention from the local government who are supposed to be able to handle waste problems.

Abstract

Racism has always been something we have fought against as a trigger for the division. We live in an area with a variety of ethnicities, races, cultures, and skin colors. In Batam City, there are still many minorities who are affected by racism, especially students. There are many problems that arise as a result of racism, which is more specifically discussed about skin color. So far, skin color has become very controversial because white people feel superior to black people so that social inequality and discrimination are very visible. The method used is the concept of design thinking by making videos and distributing them to students affected by racism. The results obtained from the respondents show that through design thinking, this video provides educational value to students to value and respect diversity. So that there is no difference between whites and blacks because we have the same language, namely Indonesian.

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak drastically impacts the worldwide economy including the stock returns. This study uses Indonesia and Malaysia cases with a total of 141.585 and 219.381 observations in 2020. The measurement of COVID-19 of this study uses daily new confirmed cases and daily death cases from each country. To test the hypothesis, an unbalanced panel and multiple regression are used to test the crowded data. The results show different results for each country. In Indonesia, we found that the COVID-19 outbreak is a strong negative effect on stock return, in contrast, Malaysia found it to be less influence. Furthermore, the effect of Monday and Friday was used to test any impact of the day during the pandemic on stock return. Surprisingly, the effect of Friday affects different from Monday. The weekend effect still occurs in a pandemic situation and the investor mood sentiment to Indonesia’s stock market. This could be one of the aspects for investors consider when making investment decisions during a pandemic.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the effect of independent directors of a publicly listed firm in Indonesia on their total compensation. Following the footsteps of other developing countries, Indonesian corporations have recently appointed more independent directors. Independent directors are thought to play an important role in determining executive compensation. This Paper takes a sample of 50 publicly listed firms in Indonesia ranked as the “best of the best firm in 2020” by well-known business magazine, Forbes. Those 50 firms were filtered by their financial performance and their practice of good corporate governance. 50 Financial reports spanning from the year 2015 – 2019 listed in the list were collected to analyze the relationship between the number of independent directors and total compensation received. The results of the studies suggest that the number of independent directors does influence their total compensation received. There is a significant positive relationship between the number of independent directors in a board structure and their total compensation received.
