Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the PBL and GI learning models on students' critical thinking skills and student's motivation. The procedure of the research used data collection methods with survey and test techniques (pretest and post-test). The data analysis techniques were researched instrument validation test, research instrument reliability, normality test, homogeneity test, One Way Anova test, and LSD Post-Hoc test. The results of the research using the PBL and GI learning models have a significant effect on critical thinking skills, a significant value of 0.00 < 0.0,5, and students' learning motivation gets a sig assessment. 0.00 < 0.05 which is stated to have a significant effect. Data testing was continued with the LSD Post-Hoc test to see a comparison of the effect of the use of the PBL learning model with the GI and the results were significantly different, namely the PBL model was a model that had more influence on critical thinking skills with a value of 0.039 <0.05 and on learning motivation with a value of 0.039 < 0.05. 0.046 < 0.05 compared to the GI model. The conclusion from this study is there is an effect of PBL and GI learning models on critical thinking skills and learning motivation of students of grade XII of WR Soepratman Catholic High School No. 020 Samarinda.

Abstract

The 21st-century biology learning requires technology-based learning which is potential in improving students’ learning outcomes. This research aimed to examine the validity and effectiveness of web-based learning media on Archaebacteria and Eubacteria on learning process. This web-based learning media was structured by using 4-D Thiagarajan model. The research was conducted at three SSHSs of Samarinda. The data were obtained from validators’ (media expert, material expert, and linguist), teachers’, and students’ opinion by using questionnaire; while the effectiveness was determined based on students’ test score and their response. The results showed that the web-based learning media was very valid with the average score from experts as high as 95.27%. Moreover, this media has been proven to improve the student’s cognitive learning outcomes (gain score 0.39) and well responded by both teachers and students.

Abstract

One of the factors lead to the low critical thingking skill is the implementation of teacher center learning. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the implementation of Problem-based Learning integrated with Cooperative Script to students’ critical thinking skills. This quasi-experimental research was done in senior high schools of Samarinda, Indonesia. The design used in this research was nonequivalent pretest - posttest control group design. The sample was the class XI  students of natural science. The treatment was done in the odd semester in 2016/2017 academic year. The data analysis used was independent-samples t-test (α = 0.05). The results of the data analysis showed that the tvalue (16.57) > ttable (2.00). The mean value of students’ critical thinking skills in the experimental group was 77.28 which means 62% higher than those who were in the control group (47.60). Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of Problem-based Learning integrated with Cooperative Script gives the significant effect to the students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

In empowering students’ 21st century skills, the implementation of scientific approach-based models (SAbM) is recommended. This quasi-experimental research was conducted in senior high school in which the students were comprised of different ethnics. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of SAbM on empowering students' critical thinking skills (CTS). The SAbM implemented were Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Guided Inquiry (GI), and PBL+GI combination. Furthermore, the students’ ethnics included were Javanese, Bugis, Kutai, Banjar, and Toraja. The purposive sampling was used to determine the classes employed (i.e. 11th classes from two senior high schools in Samarinda). The instrument used to collect CTS data was questions test. The data were analyzed using two-way ANCOVA. The results showed that there was no significant interaction between ethnic and learning models on the students' CTS (p = 0.219), as also shown by the main effect of ethnic types (p = 0.583). In contrast, there was a significant effect of SAbM on students’ CTS (p = 0.0005) Through this study, SAbM need to be implemented continuously as it can optimize the empowerment of students’ 21st Century skills.

Abstract

The learning model is one of the critical factors in boosting student to have good learning motivation (LM) and cognitive competencies (CC). In two academic years (2016-2017), only 19.6% of Senior High School (SHS) students in Samarinda passed minimal competence in Biology subject. This research was conducted to find out a better learning model in Biology subject to replace the conventional learning (CL) model. A quasi-experiment using three learning models, i.e. Problem Posing (PP), Problem-based Learning (PBL), and CL, were conducted in all three 11th grade student classes at Public Islamic SHS (PISHS) I Samarinda in the period of odd semester of 2018/2019 academic year. The LM and CC data were collected by questionnaires, each has 40 and 9 problems, respectively.  The LM and CC data were analyzed by ANOVA and ANCOVA continued by comparison test using Bonferroni test (p< 0.05), respectively. The results showed that the CL model could increase the CC, but not improve LM. However, PP and PBL model were significantly more effective (p< 0.05) in increasing both the CC and LM. The PP is superior in improving the LM, while the PBL is superior in gaining the cognitive competence.

Abstract

Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Cooperative Script dan Think-Pair-Share terhadap Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis, Sikap Sosial, dan Hasil Belajar Kognitif Biologi Siswa SMA Multietnis Abstract: Biological learning process with multiethnic students requires a learning models which allow students to work independently, to work together in small groups, and to share with other groups. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of learning models, ethnicity, and the interaction of learning model and ethnic on critical thinking skills, social attitudes, and cognitive achievement. This quasi experimental study was conducted in 11th grade of Natural Science Class Highschool students with six ethnicaly and Junior Highschool National score groups consisted of 132 samples. The results of Covarian Analysis showed that the learning models significantly affected the social attitudes and increased the critical thinking skills and cognitive achievement. Ethnicity significantly affected the social attitudes and cognitive achievement. Interaction of learning models and ethnicity significantly affected students social attitudes. Key Words: cooperative script, think-pair-share, critical thinking skills, social attitudes, biology cognitive achievement, multiethnic studentsAbstrak: Pengelolaan proses pembelajaran biologi pada siswa multietnis memerlukan model pembelajaran yang memungkinkan siswa bekerja mandiri, bekerja sama dalam kelompok kecil, dan berbagi dengan kelompok lain. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran, etnis, serta interaksi model pembelajaran dan etnis terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis, sikap sosial, dan hasil belajar kognitif biologi siswa. Penelitian eksperimen semu ini dilakukan di kelas XI IPA SMA dengan sampel sebanyak 132 orang siswa terbagi dalam enam kelas yang homogen berdasarkan etnis dan nilai ujian nasional SMP siswa. Hasil analisis data dengan menggunakan Analisis Kovarian menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap sikap sosial dan meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis, dan hasil belajar kognitif; etnik secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap sikap sosial, dan meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif biologi; interaksi model pembelajaran dan etnik berpengaruh terhadap sikap sosial. Abstract

Abstract: The learning process is strived to be able to improve cognitive learning outcomes. The cognitive learning outcomes of students of  XIth class students majoring in natural sciences in city of Samarinda, are still low. Quasi-experimental studies have been conducted in XIth class majoring in natural science, odd semester of 2017/2018 academic year. The aim of the research is to determine the effect of implementation of Problem-Based Learning and Discovery Learning models on student’s cognitive learning outcomes. The study sample is students of XIth class majoring in natural sciences in 1st public senior high schools. The sampling technique is pusposive sampling. Instruments of study  are test questions. The data were analyzed using ANCOVA. The data analysis result show that the sign value is 0.00; this means 0.00 < 0.05 (p < 0.05). The conclusion is the implementation of learning models affect student’s cognitive learning outcomes. Further studies are needed by enlarging the sample to obtain more information.Abstrak: Proses pembelajaran diupayakan untuk dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif. Hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas XI jurusan ilmu pengetahuan alam di kota Samarinda masih rendah. Penelitian kuasi eksperimental ini telah dilaksanakan di kelas XI jurusan IPA semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model Problem Based Learning dan Discovery Learning terhadap hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI jurusan IPA SMA Negeri 1. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah pusposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian adalah soal tes. Data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan ANCOVA. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa nilai signifijkansi adalah sebesar 0,00; ini berarti 0,00 < 0,05 (p < 0,05). Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Diperlukan penelitian lebih lanjut dengan memperbesar sampel untuk mendapatkan informasi lebih lanjut.

Abstract

The research is purposed to analyze the effect of learning model “Think Pair Share” type and “Talking Stick” type toward motivation and learning result conducted on April until Oktober 2016. This research is done in four Junior High School, SMPN 1, SMPN 2, SMPN 3, and MTs Sabilarrasyad Sangasanga. This research uses Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) with four treatments (including control). Each of treatments are conventional as control, Think Pair Share, Talking Stick and Thing Pair Share + Talking Stick. The result from the research is analyzed by Kovarian analysis (annacova) dan continue with LSD 5% test. The result of research shows that the average of each treatment for conventional motivation is 74,5, Talking stick is 80.05, Think Pair Share is 79,2 and Talking Stick + Think Pair Share is 81,2. While the average result for cognitive learning conventional is 4.5, Talking Stick is 75.9, Think Pair Share is 77.3 and Talking Stick + Think Pair Share from data analysis give the result Fhit 30.44 and Ftab 3.97 = 30.44 > 3.97 significant level 5%. It can concluded that there is the effect towards the result of learning motivation.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model Think Pair Share dan Talking Stick terhadap motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa mulai April hingga Oktober 2016. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di empat Sekolah Menengah Pertama, yakni SMPN 1, SMPN 2, SMPN 3, dan MTs Sabilarrasyad Sangasanga. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan empat metode. Salah satu metode konvensional, seperti kontrol, Think Pair Share, Talking Stick dan Thing Pair Share + Talking Stick. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa analisis dengan analisis Kovarian dan LSD menghasilkan peningkatan sebesar 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata setiap metode untuk memotivasi siswa sebesar 74,5, Talking stick sebesar 80.05, Think Pair Share sebesar 79,2, dan Talking Stick + Think Pair Share sebesar 81,2. Sementara itu, hasil untuk pembelajaran kognitif sebesar 4.5, Talking Stick sebesar 75.9, Think Pair Share sebesar 77.3, dan Talking Stick + Think Pair Share dari analisis data menghasilkan Fhit sebesar 30.44 dan Ftab sebesar 3.97 = 30.44 > 3.97 setara dengan 5%. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa.

Abstract

A quasi experimental study has been conducted at SMK-SPP Negeri Samarinda. The purpose of this study are knowing the influence of Discovery Learning model on the effectiveness and learning outcomes of students of Class XI SMK-SPP Negeri Samarinda and the response of students to the learning process using the discovery learning model. The method used in this study is an experiment with reference to posttest-only control design. The results shows that there is an influence in effectiveness of learning.  In the experiment group is higher than the control class. The student learning result is 93,33% in experiment class while control group is 60%, so it shows that learning using discovery learning model can improve learning outcomes. Students response to learning model of discovery learning is positive, with the result 52,22% very good, 41,11% good and 6,67% not good.Penelitian eksperimen semu telah dilakukan di SMK-SPP Negeri Samarinda. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengetahui pengaruh model Discovery Learning terhadap efektivitas dan hasil belajar siswa Kelas XI SMK-SPP Negeri Samarinda dan tanggapan siswa terhadap proses pembelajaran menggunakan model  discovery learning. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah eksperimen dengan merujuk pada posttest-only control design. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh efektivitas pembelajaran pada kelompok yang menggunaan model discovery learning, yaitu lebih tinggi dibanding dengan kelompok lain yang tidak menggunakan. Data hasil ketuntasan belajar siswa yang diperoleh adalah 93,33 % di kelompok eksperimen sedangkan di kelompok kontrol adalah 60 %, hal ini menunjukan bahwa pembelajaran menggunakan model discovery learning  dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar. Tanggapan siswa terhadap pembelajaran model discovery learning adalah positif dengan hasil 52,22 % sangat baik, 41,11 % baik dan 6,67 % tidak baik.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to obtain (1) an overview of junior high school teachers 'understanding of science based biology instructional tools and scientific report writing skills; (2) description of students' ability to write scientific reports; (3) formulation and solution to solve teacher and student problems related to inquiry-based learning And writing skills of scientific reports. A description of teacher and student understanding is determined by interviews and questionnaires are analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The result of this research is known that (1) the understanding of biology science teachers related to inquiry based biology learning device is still in the less category so that the learning process is less fun and the result is less than maximal; (2) the biology science teachers still have difficulties in the development of learning tools so it needs training, refrensi and socialization; (3) students' skills in writing scientific reports are still in the category of less; (4) the need for training and guidance to develop scientific report writing skills. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh (1) gambaran pemahaman guru SMP terkait perangkat pembelajaran IPA Biologi berbasis Inquiry dan keterampilan penulisan laporan ilmiah; (2) gambaran kemampuan siswa dalam menulis laporan ilmiah; (3) rumusan dan solusi dalam mengatasi permasalahan guru dan siswa terkait pembelajaran berbasis inquiry dan keterampilan menulis laporan ilmiah. Gambaran pemahaman guru dan siswa ditentukan dengan wawancara dan penyebaran angket dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini diketahui bahwa (1) pemahaman guru IPA Biologi terkait perangkat pembelajaran Biologi berbasis inquiry masih kategori kurang sehingga proses pembelajaran kurang menyenangkan dan hasilnya kurang maksimal; (2) guru IPA Biologi masih mengalami kesulitan dalam pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran sehingga memerlukan pelatihan, referensi dan sosialisasi; (3) keterampilan siswa dalam penulisan laporan ilmiah masih dalam kategori kurang; (4) perlu adanya pelatihan dan bimbingan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan penulisan laporan ilmiah.
