This descriptive qualitative research used a recording of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono’s speech entitled “Cobaning Gusti Allah Awujud Virus Corona”. Data were collected through a note-checking technique and were analyzed by using content analysis. The validity was maintained through expert judgment, while the reliability was through intrarrater and interrater. The results show that Javanese pitutur or advice found in Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X’s speech were in four Javanese quotes, namely: a) patient people earn the greatest fortune, and surrendering their life in faith shall result in more blessings; b) God gives way to anyone who wants to obey; c) Be wise and careful; and d) Do not be jealous if you get a trial, and do not feel bad if you lose something. The Javanese pituturs as the noble expressions of Javanese culture likely represent the nature and character of Javanese society in the face of various obstacles and problems, in this case facing the COVID-19 virus pandemic in the Yogyakarta region. The messages conveyed in the pitutur are expected to be a reminder to the people of Yogyakarta that in the face of all problems they should always hold fast to their cultural values and humbly surrender and submit themselves to God the Almighty. AbstrakUngkapan budaya suatu daerah merupakan suatu wacana yang merepresentasikan aktivitas budaya masyarakat, dan menunjukkan sifat dan karakter suatu masyarakat dalam menghadapi suatu permasalahan. Abstract

This article examines the concept of ujub in the Nusantara Sufi manuscript Abyān al-Ḥawāij (copied in 1264 H/1848 CE) and analyzes its structural parallels with the phenomenon of self-inflation in contemporary moral psychology. Using a qualitative manuscript-based approach with philological-hermeneutic analysis and structural comparison, the study reconstructs ujub as a coherent ethical structure rather than merely a normative moral prohibition. The findings reveal that ujub in the manuscript is articulated as a condition of evaluative self-inflation characterized by exaggerated self-appraisal, asymmetrical attribution of success, moral superiority, and illusion of spiritual autonomy. These structural elements resonate with constructs in modern psychology, including self-enhancement bias, overconfidence bias, self-serving bias, and moral superiority illusion. However, while psychological theories frame these tendencies within cognitive-regulatory and adaptive functions, Abyān al-Ḥawāij situates them within a theological-ethical horizon emphasizing humility and awareness of human dependence on the Divine. This study contributes to comparative moral psychology by positioning a Nusantara Sufi manuscript as a conceptual source for interdisciplinary dialogue. It demonstrates that classical Islamic ethical texts contain systematic moral analysis compatible with contemporary theoretical discourse, while maintaining distinct epistemological foundations. The findings also offer implications for Islamic education, suggesting that moral cultivation should integrate spiritual discipline with awareness of cognitive mechanisms underlying self-inflation

Abstract

This study examines the decline in intergenerational transmission of traditional agricultural vocabulary within Javanese-speaking farming communities, particularly in rice cultivation. The study aims analyze the rice cultivation register in Kesugihan District, Cilacap Regency, and to examine its relevance to Javanese language learning at the junior high school. Data were collected through field observation, semi-structured interviews, surveys, and documentation involving farmers, village officials, agricultural extension officers, and members of farmer groups. The data were analyzed using register theory and functional linguistic perspectives through stages of transcription, categorization, contextual interpretation, and functional analysis. The findings reveal the rice cultivation register in Kesugihan District reflects a systematic linguistic variation organized into three stages: pre-planting, land preparation, and planting. The registers are characterized by distinctive ngapak Javanese lexical forms such as rumbras, kluyon, nggebal, ngepyak, demplot, ombol, and nyidhangi, which function as technical communication tools, markers of work procedures, and carriers local knowledge. Linguistically, the study demonstrates relationship between register formation, social activity, and cultural practices within agrarian communities. The findings also affirm agricultural registers can serve contextual and culture-based teaching materials in Javanese language education by enriching students vocabulary mastery, introducing dialectal variation, and strengthening local wisdom-oriented learning at the junior high school.
