Abstract

The objective of this study to specify the effect of the use of model variation free flow exhaust and spark plug racing against torque, power and the noise level generated. This research is descriptive quantitative experimental method. The sample used is the Supra X motorcycle 125d which uses exhaust components and the plugs are standard. Data obtained from the measurement of torque, power and noise levels using a tool Sportdyno V3.3 and Sound Level Meter to perform replacement treatment models as well as the free flow exhaust racing spark plugs compared to standard conditions. The research show that use of exhaust and spark plugs have signification variations were tested. Of all the test results obtained torque decreases from all experimental treatments. Lowering the lowest torque obtained on the use variations of free flow exhaust and spark plug racing. At the same usage also generated the increase in power and the noise level of the most significant.

Abstract

Vehicle performance will decrease with increasing age of use, it can be seen from the weakening initial torque and the power of the vehicle when driving unlike the initial production. Magic ring a tool produced by CV. SUMI INOTECH which utilizes the overlapping process of valves. The magic ring mounted on the header exhaust manifold serves to restore exhaust gas that is wasted from the overlapping process to return to the combustion chamber so as to produce more power to push the piston and the performance of the vehicle will increase. This study used an experimental method with the research object of Yamaha Vega RR in 2014. The magic ring used was the 16 mm magic ring serial number (ASJS032125) and the same magic ring but the inner diameter was enlarged to 18 mm. Using descriptive quantitative data analysis, it was found that the use of the magic ring added torque from the standard condition of 7.42% in the use of the 16 mm magic ring and increased by 7.12% in the use of the 18 mm magic ring. The power of the vehicle increased only 0.24% when using the magic ring 16 mm, and the use of the magic ring 18 mm power remained the same as the standard condition.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) produce a practical teaching material in the form of a practicum e-module for advanced fuel motor practice courses in the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program which is declared feasible (2) find out the practicality of practicum e-modules in advanced fuel motor practice courses in the Mechanical Engineering Study Program.This research uses the type of research development or Research and Development (R&D). The development model used is the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The instruments used in this study included practicum e-module requirement sheets, practicum e-module validation sheets by experts, research sheets for lecturers in advanced fuel motor practice courses and student response sheets. Trials of the practicum e-module product were carried out for students of the Mechanical Engineering Education study program class of 2021 who are currently taking an advanced fuel motor practice course. Data analysis used in this research is descriptive quantitative and descriptive qualitative.Based on the results of the analysis of the validation sheet by the experts, it was found that the practicum e-module was declared feasible to use with a score of 88.8% for the results of material experts in the very feasible category, 86.4% for media experts in the very feasible category, and linguists showing a percentage score of 97.5% very decent category. Based on the results of the analysis of the practicum e-module practicum sheet by student responses and the assessment of lecturers supporting advanced fuel motor practice courses, it shows that the practicum e-module is stated to be practical with an average result of student response percentage scores of 88.9% in the very practical category and the assessment of supervising lecturers shows a score of 85.3% with the very practical category. So that the practicum e-module is declared feasible and practically used by students as teaching material in supporting the learning of advanced fuel motor practice course.

Abstract

Vehicle technology is still not effective in saving fuel consumption. Various attempts have been made to reduce fuel consumption in motorized vehicles. This is done to prevent the depletion of the availability of fossil energy, especially petroleum. One of the emerging technological innovations is the Magic ring. Magic ring is a technology to reduce fuel consumption by reducing the diameter of the exhaust manifold channel with a special design. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of the Magic ring on the fuel consumption of motorized vehicles (gasoline engines). This study used an experimental method on a single cylinder 110cc four-stroke gasoline motorcycle engine. This study uses three types of fuel, RON 90, RON 92, and RON 98 for fuel consumption in ml / minute, and data analysis using quantitative descriptive. The results of this study are looking for the most efficient fuel consumption in each type of fuel at 1500 rpm. The results show that there is an effect of installing a Magic ring in saving fuel consumption. Evidence of this is the increase in the value of fuel consumption savings with a percentage of 23.3% at RON 90, 21.5% at RON 92, 19.4% at RON 98. The test results show that the installation of Magic rings is effective in reducing fuel consumption and can used in the future to save fuel.

Abstract

Liquified Petroleum Gas is a gaseous hydrocarbon produced from gas and oil with the main components being propane and butane. The use of LPG gas fuel was chosen because it is able to reduce the amount of fuel consumption by up to 30% more efficient than fuel oil in general. The use of LPG fuel can be optimized by modifying the size of the pilot jet, the size of the main jet and the gas flow valve opening on the regulator. The purpose of this study was to investigate how big the ratio of fuel consumption between LPG fuel and pertalite fuel is. This study used Honda Supra 125 D as a sample. The variables used in this study include: variations in the size of the pilot jet (40, 42, 45), variations in the size of the main jet (72, 98, 120) and the gas flow valve opening on the regulator (10%, 15%, 20%). The results showed that the lowest LPG fuel consumption value was obtained at 156.5 grams per 10 kilometers, while the pertalite fuel consumption value was obtained at 232.9 grams (after converting from liters to grams). The most influential factor is the replacement of the main jet size on the use of LPG fuel.

Abstract

Energy use in Indonesia is increasing while energy reserves in Indonesia are running low. In an effort to meet energy needs in Indonesia, there must be the development of renewable energy sources by utilizing wind energy to be converted into electrical energy using a horizontal wind turbine generator. To optimize the wind turbine generator, you can change its parameters, one of which is by changing the design of the generator magnet.            The method used in this study is an experimental method, where the variables used in this study are the design of the magnet skew, the design of the interior magnet and the design of the magnet surface. This research was conducted at wind speeds of 1 m/s to 5 m/s using a wind tunnel. Tests were carried out using 12 V and 24 V lamp loads and no-load tests to determine the power generated by each generator.            The results of the research are the design of the magnet on the generator rotor and variations in wind speed affect the power produced by the wind turbine, the magnetic skew produces a power of 0.974 W, the interior magnet produces a power of 0.674 W and the surface magnet produces a power of 1.386 W. Tests without load and speed variations The wind affects the power produced by the wind turbine, where the power at the generator cannot be calculated. Tests with loading and wind speed variations affect the power produced by the wind turbine, where each loading test has various results such as when a load is given to the magnetic surface design at a wind speed of 5 m/s with a loading of 24 V producing a power of 1.386 W.

Abstract

New and renewable energy (EBT) is a source of energy that can be created by humans by utilizing solid waste from industrial processing. One example of making renewable energy is RDF. Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is a form of solid waste utilization that is used from industries and households which have a high calorific value which can be used as a new alternative fuel. RDF is the treatment of waste which is used as an alternative energy material. The materials used to make RDF in this study are coffee grounds and bagasse. For the manufacture of coffee grounds and bagasse are mixed and adhesive is added. The mixture ratio is 100: 0, 30: 70,50: 50,70: 30, and 0: 100 for adhesive concentration using 10%, 20%, and 30%. The finished RDF-5 is tested by testing the burn time. Tests were carried out at the Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Education, FKIP UNS. The method used an experimental method. The variables examined in this study are the independent variables, the dependent variable and the control variable. The free variation consists of variations between the composition of coffee grounds and bagasse with the following ratios 100: 0, 70:30, 50:50, 30:70, and 0: 100 as well as variations in adhesive concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. The dependent variable consists of burn time. The control variables consist of the RDF-5 printer with a pressure of 6 kg / cm2 and a filter used with a size of 10 mesh. The best test results for burning time are 30 bagasse + 70 coffee grounds mixed with 30% adhesive concentration with a result of 1370 seconds.

Abstract

Solar water heater is a device that uses solar collectors to absorb solar radiation and convert it into heat energy to heat water. The type of solar collector and the water flow rate used affect the thermal efficiency of the solar water heater. This research uses a solar water heater with a serpentine configuration of copper pipe material and applies a water flow rate of 1 lpm. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of water flow rate on the thermal efficiency produced by solar water heater with serpentine configuration. The type of research is quantitative research, with experimental methods. This research was conducted at Campus V, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta for 3 days starting at 09.00 to 15.00 WIB. The test results of the serpentine solar water heater with a water flow rate of 1 lpm produced the highest temperature reaching 43.42 ͦC and had a thermal efficiency of 46.14%.

Abstract

Utilization of palm waste in the form of charcoal briquettes makes the fuel more efficient and in a better form. Thus, charcoal briquette fuel with sugar palm waste is a solution or alternative to solving the waste problem caused by palm trees. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the effect of pre-heating on the pyrolysis process of palm sugar waste biomass on gas fraction, bio-oil and char. This study used an experimental method conducted in the Mechanical Engineering Education Laboratory of Sebelas Maret University. The research variable is the variation of pre-heating time in the pyrolysis of palm waste biomass against gas fraction, bio-oil and char in a continuous model horizontal reactor. The result of this study is that pre-heating has an effect on the gas fraction. The longer the pre-heating process is carried out, the lower the amount of O2 gas produced. Pre-heating affects the char, so the quality and quantity can be measured.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to investigate: (1) the Basic Competency Standard of the Automotive Expertise Program in Grade X of Bhinneka Karya Vocational High School of Surakarta in academic year 2015/2016; (2) the students’ learning result; and (3) the students’ ways of thinking to improve their learning result through the application of the 2013 curriculum. This research used the descriptive qualitative method, which described its objects of research holistically based on the reality in the field and which aimed at describing the facts being studied systematically and accurately. The data sources of the research were the teachers and the students in Grade X TO B of the Automotive Expertise Program of Bhinneka Karya Vocational High School of Surakarta. Its data were collected through observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. They were analyzed by using the interactive model of analysis comprising data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The attainment of competency particularly in the Automotive Basic Competency subject matter of the students of Bhinneka Karya Vocational High School of Surakarta can be improved through the application of  2013 curriculum. The application of 2013 curriculum is more efficient in assessing the students’ attitude, knowledge, skill, and spirit aspects as indicated by the results of their final test of the second semester in which following the application of the 2013 curriculum, their learning achievement increased by 22.74% from 36.36% to 59.1%.
