Abstract

Abstract. The mastery of lexical information is a constant struggle when studying English. It is not considered that having a large lexical knowledge or vocabulary is one of the conditions for being able to communicate smoothly in the language. Each student may have a different method for increasing their vocabulary. As a result, the purpose of this study is to learn about the tactics utilized by EFL students at one of Bandar Lampung's private universities. The study will also illustrate the frequency with which each method is employed by EFL students. The data for this study was collected via a distributed questionnaire and presented using a quantitative technique. This study enlisted the participation of 30 students from a private university in Bandar Lampung. The metacognitive method was shown to be the most frequently used strategy in acquiring English vocabulary, whereas the memory strategy was found to be the least frequently employed. Students typically prefer to watch English TV episodes or movies and observe their blunders as a technique to learn a new English language in specific actions. As shown in the findings of this study, certain tactics are less popular among students and should be offered since they will help students find the best way to acquire new vocabulary and eventually help them become independent learners.

Abstract

This study focuses on the relationship and influence between students' self-esteem and students' English ability. Speaking is an important language skill, especially in a global setting where English is required for success in many areas. The study's goal is to evaluate if self-esteem has a substantial influence on students' speaking ability, as well as to uncover variables that contribute to poor self-esteem. Data were collected from 10th graders at a public school in South Lampung using questionnaires, speaking exams, and interviews. Using Pearson's correlation in SPSS.26, a sample of 36 students yielded a correlation value of 0.446, demonstrating a modest positive association between self-esteem and speaking ability. Peer comparison, dependence on external validation, emotional responses to failure, family dynamics, social support, and instructor evaluation are all factors that influence one's self-esteem. Addressing these issues is critical for increasing students' resilience and cultivating a more positive self-image, which can lead to improved speaking ability.

Abstract

Innovative and interesting learning is an important requirement in the current educational context. One alternative way is to apply games by means of the Wordwall application as a learning digital tool. This article focuses on community service in implementing Wordwall in learning and explores its benefits in an educational context. The methods used include counseling, training, and assisting in using Wordwall in the classroom. The results of community service show that the use of Wordwall in learning can increase student participation, learning motivation, and understanding of concepts. In addition, the use of Wordwall also provides an opportunity for teachers to integrate technology into learning, increases creativity in compiling learning content, and provides an interesting learning experience for students. However, there are also some challenges encountered in using Wordwall, such as limited access to technology and teacher expertise in using the application. Therefore, suggestions for teachers in using games for education, such as Wordwall, include increasing teachers' digital competence, selecting and developing learning content according to student needs, and monitoring the impact of using games for education. This article is expected to provide insights and recommendations for teachers in utilizing Wordwall as an innovative and effective learning support tool.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of integrating the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) with Mentimeter to enhance Indonesian EFL senior high school students’ argumentative writing competence. The participants were 36 eleventh-grade students who took part in a one-group pretest–posttest design. Students’ essays were evaluated in five aspects content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics while their perceptions were collected through a validated five-point Likert-scale questionnaire. The paired-sample t-test result (t = 27.997, p < .001) revealed a statistically significant improvement in overall writing performance, confirming that the integration of GBA and Mentimeter produced a strong positive instructional effect. Students also reported highly favorable perceptions toward the integrated approach, emphasizing that it enhanced their clarity of ideas, engagement, collaboration, motivation, and confidence during writing activities. This research fills the gap in empirical studies exploring technology-supported genre pedagogy within Indonesian EFL contexts, where such integrations are rarely examined in depth. The findings suggest that combining structured genre instruction with interactive digital platforms can foster both cognitive and affective dimensions of writing development. Therefore, the integration of GBA and Mentimeter offers valuable pedagogical implications for English teachers aiming to apply process-oriented, student-centered, and technology-enhanced approaches to improve students’ argumentative writing performance and promote long-term language learning achievement.

Abstract

In this study, eleventh-grade students at SMAN 14 Bandar Lampung's reading comprehension skills are improved through the use of Quiz.com and multimodal texts to promote Content-Based Instruction (CBI). Utilizing a mixed-methods methodology, the research integrated both qualitative and quantitative techniques to present a thorough analysis of the intervention. Thirty-one pupils answered a 15-item Likert-scale survey to gauge their impressions, motivation, and engagement, and they took part in a pre- and post-test to gauge their reading comprehension. In the quantitative findings, the mean score increased from 83.41 in the pre-test to 95.74 in the post-test, indicating a considerable improvement. The paired samples t-test verified that the change was statistically significant (p <.05). Additionally, the standard deviation dropped from 16.38 to 4.97, indicating that students' performance stabilized following the intervention. All five components of reading comprehension—main concept identification, supporting detail recognition, contextual vocabulary knowledge, inference-making, and text structure analysis—showed growth in the students. These conclusions were corroborated by the questionnaire results, which showed high internal consistency with a Cronbach's Alpha of.936. Responses were largely positive, according to content analysis, with mean ratings ranging from 3.81 to 4.58. Quiz.com's engaging, entertaining, and inspiring aspects were especially appreciated by students, and multimodal texts were acknowledged for giving reading greater significance and relevance to everyday situations. Nevertheless, several students pointed out that multimodal texts did not totally eliminate monotony, indicating the necessity for a variety of teaching methods. Overall, the results show that understanding, motivation, and confidence in EFL classes may be successfully increased by including CBI, multimodal resources, and digital technologies.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of integrating Wordwall media with Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) to improve eleventh-grade students’ descriptive writing skills at SMAN 14 Bandar Lampung. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed with 36 students. Writing scores were assessed using a modified rubric covering content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. Inter-rater reliability was excellent (pre-test r = .985; post-test r = .998, p < .01), and normality tests confirmed parametric assumptions. The results showed significant improvement in students’ writing performance after the intervention (pre-test mean = 54.83; post-test mean = 76.42; paired-samples t-test, t = 14.85, df = 35, p < .001), with the largest gains in organization and language use. Qualitative interviews with high, medium, and low achievers revealed increased motivation, engagement, and peer-supported learning. These findings suggest that integrating gamified digital platforms like Wordwall within a task-based framework effectively enhances descriptive writing skills in EFL classrooms.
