Abstract

One of the factors affecting student’s academic achievement is student learning motivation.  The motivation that exists in students can drive them to be more enthusiastic to do excel in learning process. This study aimed to determine whether there is a correlation between the tertiary students’ motivation and the students’ academic achievement indicated by their Grade Point Average (GPA). This study was designed using a quantitative correlational study and 39 students were involved as the participant. Questionnaire and document perusal were done to collect the data. The results suggest that there is a positive correlation between students’ motivation and the students’ learning achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate students' perception toward the use of question techniques in improving students speaking skills at the tertiary level. Spoken skills and communication may play a very vital role to the students as their future profession might rely heavily on the use of the speaking ability. There are 24 participants in this study and it came from freshmen of English Education major. Based on the findings, it is clear that the students had a positive attitude toward the use of questioning techniques improving their speaking ability. The students perceived that they had an improvement, especially in fluency, accuracy, comprehension, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Moreover, the questioning technique led the students to be more active and participate in the learning activities. Besides, it triggered students to show their self-confidence. In short, it is implied that the more questioning technique is used, the better the students’ spoken ability might be.Keywords: Speaking Skill, question technique, perception, strategy, method

Abstract

Mastering English requires the students to have their own strategy. The use of appropriate language learning strategies may help the students to be proficient in English. This research investigates the language learning strategies used by EFL students and their relationship with the Students’ English Proficiency. This study adopted Ex-post facto quantitative research design in which the data were collected from the result of students Language Learning Inventory and also the data of their latest English Proficiency Score. 38 students majoring in English participated in this research. The result of this research shows that metacognitive strategies were the most frequent strategy, followed by cognitive strategy, compensation strategy, memory strategy, affective strategy, and social strategies. Additionally, there is a significant correlation between language learning strategy use and students’ English proficiency.

Abstract

This study is designed to confirm whether there is a relationship between students’ learning styles and their English Proficiency at one of private universities in Indonesia. Using quantitative classroom research, 40 students were involved to fill out a questionnaire to explore their learning styles. Then, the students were also required to follow an Institutional English Proficiency Test (EPT) to measure their English ability. The result of the questionnaire is analyzed and presented in terms of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic categories of learning style, while the mean score of students’ English proficiency is presented in terms of low, medium, and high proficiency. The correlational analysis is then calculated to reveal to what extent learning style has a relation to English proficiency. This study bears a pedagogical implication for English teachers and practitioners while some limitations were also highlighted.

Abstract

Keterampilan berbicara di depan umum atau public speaking masih belum sepenuhnya dimiliki oleh para siswa. Keengganan tampil di depan publik ini akibat rendahnya rasa kepercayaan diri, dan minimnya penguasaan teknik berbicara di depan umum. Ketidakmampuan ini menyebabkan komunikasi yang seharusnya efektif, menjadi tergradasi. Bahkan seringkali terjadi kesalahpahaman komunikasi di depan publik. Kesalahpahaman ini didokumentasikan dan tersebar di dunia maya. Para siswa pun menjadi rentan dengan tindakan perundungan atau bullying di dunia maya. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat yang dilakukan di MAN 1 Lampung Tengah bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan kepada para siswa di sekolah tersebut untuk memiliki kemampuan public speaking yang baik. Terdapat empat sesi dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini, yaitu: 1) penyampaian materi mengenai Public speaking, 2) tips and trik, serta best practice dalam Public speaking, 3) performance dari siswa-siswi MAN 1 Lampung Tengah dan mahasiswa Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukan bahwa para siswa yang pada awalnya memiliki kemampuan public speaking yang rendah mengalami peningkatan kemampuan public speaking mengikuti kegiatan pendampingan pembelajaran Public Speaking dalam Bahasa Inggris. Hal ini ditunjukan dengan respon positif siswa selama mengikuti kegiatan dan hasil kuesioner terkait persepsi siswa terhadap kegiatan. Kegiatan serupa sebagai kelanjutan proses pembelajaran juga diharapkan guna tercapai tujuan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris secara menyeluruh.

Abstract

As one of Indonesia’s most prominent foreign languages, English is essential in education. The importance of English is reflected in the fact that it is taught from elementary school through university and is even used as a requirement for graduation or employment. Passing the campus-provided English Proficiency Test is a graduation requirement for Teknokrat University students. As a result, learning and mastering English is an important step for students.When it comes to teaching English in the classroom, there are various factors to consider. Every student has their own individuality. Different personalities result in varying levels of comprehension. Students’ personalities vary enormously, yet self-esteem is important in influencing individuals. In short, students’ personalities can differ based on their self-esteem. As a result, students’ personalities are greatly influenced by their sense of self, affecting their learning. This study aimed to see if there is a relationship between undergraduate students’ self-esteem and their English Language proficiency test at Teknokrat University. The computation results show that the correlation coefficient was .454. This study revealed a moderately positive relationship between students’ self-esteem and their EPT scores. Thus, the greater their self-esteem, the better their EPT score.Keywords: English Learning, English Proficiency Test and Self-esteem

Abstract

Pembelajaran yang inovatif dan menarik menjadi kebutuhan penting dalam konteks pendidikan saat ini. Salah satu alternatif yang dapat digunakan adalah penggunaan aplikasi Wordwall sebagai alat pendukung pembelajaran. Artikel ini berfokus pada pengabdian kepada masyarakat dalam menerapkan Wordwall dalam pembelajaran dan menggali manfaatnya dalam konteks pendidikan. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan pendampingan dalam penggunaan Wordwall di kelas. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Wordwall dalam pembelajaran dapat meningkatkan partisipasi siswa, motivasi belajar, dan pemahaman konsep. Selain itu, penggunaan Wordwall juga memberikan kesempatan bagi guru untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi dalam pembelajaran, meningkatkan kreativitas dalam menyusun konten pembelajaran, dan memberikan pengalaman belajar yang menarik bagi siswa. Namun, terdapat pula beberapa tantangan yang dihadapi dalam penggunaan Wordwall, seperti keterbatasan akses teknologi dan keahlian guru dalam penggunaan aplikasi tersebut. Oleh karena itu, saran bagi guru dalam penggunaan games for education, seperti Wordwall, antara lain adalah peningkatan kompetensi digital guru, pemilihan dan pengembangan konten pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa, dan pemantauan terhadap dampak penggunaan games for education dalam pembelajaran. Artikel ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan dan rekomendasi bagi para guru dalam memanfaatkan Wordwall sebagai alat pendukung pembelajaran yang inovatif dan efektif.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengadian kepada masyarakat yang dilaksanakan dengan topik “Pelatihan Peningkatan Mutu Hasil Belajar Melalui Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka dan Pembangunan Game Edukasi. Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) adalah meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memanfaatkan teknologi melalui pelatihan game edukasi dan meningkatkan pemahaman Kurikulum Merdeka bagi para guru di SMA Negeri 1 Sumberejo. Melalui pembuatan game edukasi ini, siswa dapat mengembangkan minat di bidang IT sekaligus belajar matematika. Sedangkan untuk para guru, melalui workshop implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka ini membuat guru-guru lebih paham dan mengerti perbedaan penggunaan kurikulum yang lama dan kurikulum yang baru. Peserta dalam kegiatam PKM adalah guru-guru serta siswa SMA Negeri 1 Sumberejo. Metode dalam pengabdian ini terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan pelatihan, dan evaluasi.

Abstract

Innovative and interesting learning is an important requirement in the current educational context. One alternative way is to apply games by means of the Wordwall application as a learning digital tool. This article focuses on community service in implementing Wordwall in learning and explores its benefits in an educational context. The methods used include counseling, training, and assisting in using Wordwall in the classroom. The results of community service show that the use of Wordwall in learning can increase student participation, learning motivation, and understanding of concepts. In addition, the use of Wordwall also provides an opportunity for teachers to integrate technology into learning, increases creativity in compiling learning content, and provides an interesting learning experience for students. However, there are also some challenges encountered in using Wordwall, such as limited access to technology and teacher expertise in using the application. Therefore, suggestions for teachers in using games for education, such as Wordwall, include increasing teachers' digital competence, selecting and developing learning content according to student needs, and monitoring the impact of using games for education. This article is expected to provide insights and recommendations for teachers in utilizing Wordwall as an innovative and effective learning support tool.

Abstract

Currently, Games for Education is an interesting topic for students in Vocational School, especially in this digital era. The training in games-making conducted by the Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia social service team gives a significant impact to develop digital competencies, creativity, and collaboration; furthermore, it is relevant to the needs of the nowadays digital job market. First, this training in this case gives the students a chance to have such a digital technology, which is relevant to the job market. It can increase their creativity in producing interesting and original digital products. Then, this training also leads the students to be able to work in a team for collaboration. In the process of game making, the students should work together to design, test, and develop the games. It thus builds up students’ ability for collaborating, communicating, and solving problems. This ability is also crucial in the digital job market, especially for project teams. Related to the job market, this training can also create a career path in game industries, graphic design, animation, and multimedia. In closing, the training gives experiences and competencies for the students in game-making that are useful for their careers; furthermore, it can help the students to master digital technology, increase their creativities, develop their collaborative ability, and to prepare themselves for the challenges of the fast- digital industry development.
