Abstract

Abstract

Career decision-making difficulty is a psychological barrier experienced by individuals, particularly adolescents, resulting from irrational beliefs and emotional distress that hinder the career exploration process. Research proves that these difficulties are often triggered by irrational thinking patterns and emotional pressures that impede career exploration. Individuals trapped in irrational mindsets tend to experience anxiety and procrastination in decision-making, which negatively impacts their readiness to enter the workforce or higher education. This study reports findings from research using a single-case A-B-A design to analyze the influence of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)-based career counseling in reducing career decision-making difficulties among adolescents. The participants consisted of two vocational high school (SMK) students (n=2) who exhibited high levels of career decision-making difficulty. The REBT-based counseling intervention was administered in six sessions, integrating cognitive restructuring techniques with the stages of career exploration. Self-report data were collected using the Career Decision-Making Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ) at pre-, during, and post-intervention time points.Visual analysis revealed that students participating in REBT-based career counseling experienced a significant decrease in career decision-making difficulties during the intervention and throughout the follow-up period. This evidence suggests the potential feasibility of using the REBT approach to help vocational students achieve independence and rationality in career planning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the general picture of cognitive distortion and social media addiction among university students, as well as to identify the influence of cognitive distortion and social media addiction on social media addiction. The study employed a quantitative approach with a causal-comparative design and involved 184 university students as samples through probability sampling. The results showed that the majority of students were in the low category of cognitive distortion, while social media addiction was mostly in the moderate category. There was a strong positive correlation between cognitive distortion and social media addiction with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.387 and a contribution of 15% (R² = 0.150), as well as a significance value of 0.000, with 85% of other variables not explained in this study.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of classical guidance based on a mindful self-compassion program on improving adolescents’ quality of life. Employing a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design, the intervention was delivered over a six-week period, with each session lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Participants completed the Adolescent Quality of Life Inventory (AQoLI) prior to and following the intervention. A total of 21 participants took part in both the pre- and post-intervention assessments. The findings revealed a significant improvement in overall quality of life, with a large effect size observed (d = 0.62). Additionally, notable improvements were identified in specific domains, including self-functioning (d = 0.49), social functioning (d = 0.47), and personal growth (d = 0.67). These results support the initial hypothesis that participants would experience enhanced quality of life following the intervention. While these findings are promising, the study's limitations should be noted. The small sample size and absence of a control group constrain the generalizability of the results. Further research employing randomized controlled trial designs and follow-up assessments is warranted to confirm the efficacy of mindful self-compassion programs in promoting adolescents’ quality of life

Abstract

Adolescent mental health requires serious attention because it can affect adolescents’ ability to face developmental demands, including academic challenges. Data from the Indonesia National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (I-NAMHS, 2022) showed that 34.9% of adolescents aged 10–17 years experienced mental health problems in the past 12 months. One psychological factor that may support adolescents in facing academic challenges is growth mindset, namely the belief that abilities can be developed through effort, learning strategies, and experience. This study aimed to describe academic resilience, describe growth mindset, and analyze growth mindset as a predictor of academic resilience among adolescents at SMAN 3 Kota Tasikmalaya. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 220 eleventh-grade students selected using non-probability sampling through incidental sampling. The instruments used were the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) and the Adolescent Mindset Scale adapted. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results showed that students’ academic resilience was in the high category, while their growth mindset was predominantly in the strong growth mindset category. Simple linear regression analysis showed that growth mindset was a positive and significant predictor of academic resilience (R = 0.635; R² = 0.403; p < 0.001). Thus, stronger growth mindset was associated with higher academic resilience.

Abstract

Social withdrawal during adolescence is a behavior characterized by a tendency to limit social interactions, avoid engagement with peers, and prefer individual activities. This condition warrants attention because it can hinder students’ social and emotional development and their adjustment to the school environment. This study aims to describe the level of social withdrawal among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Wanaraja, identify differences based on gender, and formulate implications of the research findings for guidance and counseling services. The study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The study population consisted of 451 eighth-grade students, with 199 students selected as the sample through incidental sampling. Data were collected using a social withdrawal instrument and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed that students’ social withdrawal scores ranged from 24 to 120, with a mean of 72 and a standard deviation of 12. A total of 141 students (71%) fell into the moderate category, 57 students (29%) fell into the low category, and 1 student fell into the high category. By aspect, “nonfearful” accounted for 55%, while “dysregulation” accounted for 54%; both fell into the moderate category. Analysis by gender revealed a significant difference between male and female students (p = 0.009). These findings indicate the importance of group counseling services focused on developing social skills, emotional regulation, self-confidence, and the ability to build interpersonal relationships.
