Abstract

Abstract. Despite a growing sense that start-up enterprise is critical to economic growth, the topic of performance management affects strategic and organizational processes remains largely understudied. In Indonesia, as a sphere where the entrepreneurial ecosystem is on the rise, we explored the strategy of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) start-up firms using a Balanced Scorecard (BSC). This research aims to determine how suitable the BSC is applied to AEC start-ups and how this tool is implemented as the enterprise evolves. We conduct in-depth case studies using multiple data sources, including interviews and field observation. By performing the comparative analysis, we identified managerial practices that enable the networking of BSC perspectives – learning and growth, internal process, customer, and financial – during the start-up lifecycle. From the contribution to the literature perspective, this study provides empirical evidence that the BSC is a valuable performance management tool for early-stage firms. However, the BSC must be reconfigured regularly to reflect the current development stage’s objectives throughout implementation. As the business implications, this research helps AEC entrepreneurs see the significance of achieving organizational balance to drive growth and transition from agile start-ups to sustainable companies. Future research may examine the interconnection between managerial control systems and leadership attributes in different business contexts. Keywords:  AEC firms, Balanced Scorecard, Performance Management System, Start-up Lifecycle

Abstract

The enactment of the Village Law marks the beginning of the rural development transformation through Village Owned Enterprise (VOE) implementation. In Indonesia, 45,549 VOEs have been established in 83,931 villages. VOEs are developed with a social business model to provide economic and social benefits to the community. Unfortunately, VOEs demonstrating satisfying performance in Indonesia have not reached 600. This research focused on discovering significant factors influencing VOEs’ ability to accomplish their best economic and social performance and proposed a success pattern that other VOEs could adapt to their natural and human assets. This study adopted a qualitative mono-method with 24 sources, varying from village government officers, directors and personnel of VOEs, academicians, and other parties, focusing on exploring three VOEs with accomplishments. The findings uncovered six propositions that must be fulfilled for VOEs to attain the necessary success concerning social and economic performance. These results suggested that the village government’s commitment, the VOEs’ management professionalism, and the village community’s involvement must cooperate to produce a balanced social and economic performance. This discovery also suggested VOEs to reflect and reproduce local knowledge trough take an advantage of their distinctive natural and human resources.

Abstract

Understanding product development management is crucial, particularly within the context of family businesses, which are renowned for their resistance to change. Family firms demonstrate a paradox in innovation: while inclined toward calculated risk-taking, they often invest less in R&D compared with non-family businesses. This article explores the evolving landscape of product development management literature related to family businesses. It achieves this by meticulously examining pertinent scholarly works. Conducting a systematic review focused on family businesses’ product development management practices. This article poses the following fundamental question: What prior research has delved into the intersection of family businesses and product development management? The authors adopted the updated Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines to ensure transparency and completeness in their systematic literature review. The research process hinges on accessing academic databases housing peer-reviewed journals, which initially yielded 955 articles. Through a series of discerning study selection phases, this number was pruned down to 68 articles eligible for further assessment. Ultimately, this study incorporates insights from 22 articles. Within the domain of product development management, the responsibility is typically divided among three key parties: marketing, design, and manufacturing. Notably, the findings underscore a predominant emphasis on the marketing perspective in the existing literature. Consequently, this article calls for future research endeavors to delve into the roles of design and manufacturing in the context of family business and product development management.

Abstract. Digital storytelling is a method of telling stories using digital media. This method can be used for educational purposes including environmental education to support sustainability mindset. This study aimed to explore the use of digital storytelling for environmental education on Youtube in the context of social forestry in Indonesia. The research method used was Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and analyses using thematic coding. The findings from 15 professionals and experts in 3 FGD sessions showed that digital storytelling with Youtube can be an effective tool for environmental education. Abstract

The contribution of entrepreneurship at both the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels is remarkable. There are many entrepreneurship development programs (EDP) initiatives proposed by policymakers around the world to ensure the growth of entrepreneurs. While EDP is necessary to improve entrepreneur capabilities, however studies on EDP evaluation literacy remain limited. This study aims to fill the gap by investigating EDP evaluation literacy by using a systematic literature review (SLR). This study carried out a bibliometric analysis on a Scopus database in the last three decades, from 1989 to 2021 with all the manuscripts were written in English. The results show that most of the literature on EDP evaluation-related themes is mainly focused on program evaluation, characteristics, challenges, stakeholders, and context, with program evaluation and characteristics are considered as the most significant issues of EDP evaluation. Interestingly, this study also reveals that few manuscripts review the process of EDP as the success criterion of EDP implementation.

Abstract

Social commerce has become a recent phenomenon and is poised to grow rapidly in the next few years. To better address customer behavior on social commerce platforms, it is imperative to acquire a comprehensive understanding of social commerce from the perspective of service quality. The objective of this research is to examine the dimensions of social commerce service quality and to reveal the factors influencing purchase intentions among the expanding user population. This study identified seven critical dimensions of social commerce service quality (website design, fulfilment, customer service, communication, contact, credibility, and security) that influence purchase intention. This research adopts a questionnaire survey method to collect data from social commerce users. Using PLS-SEM, the findings from an empirical analysis, conducted with a sample of 411 social commerce users, demonstrate that all measured dimensions significantly impact the intention to purchase. The findings also demonstrate that e-commerce has considerable influence on customer purchase intention as a partial mediator in social commerce. The findings hold significant implications for social commerce enterprises to increase customer attraction by identifying the motivations behind their purchasing decisions.

Abstract

Rural has become a prime headline for Indonesia’s development since the enactment of the Rural Act in 2014. Since the ratification, rural governments in Indonesia have more authority to manage their village economy through the establishment of a village-owned social enterprise (VOSE). In 2019, 45,549 VOSEs were established from the total of 83,931 villages in Indonesia. Unfortunately, although several VOSEs show good performance, most have problems that hamper their growth. This article stems from the researchers’ desire to observe the contribution of entrepreneurial activities in the village to rural resilience. This research applied qualitative research by interviewing rural stakeholders in nine Bumdes. The findings of the study indicate that low commitment from village heads and Bumdes directors, low motivation from Bumdes management, inadequate business knowledge from Bumdes management, rural political dynamics, and fluctuations in community participation are all obstacles to Bumdes’ ability to promote rural resilience. This research demonstrates that in order to attain rural resilience, Bumdes requires a more holistic strategy to promote stakeholder attachment.

Abstract

This research addresses the challenges faced by UR POS, a unit under PT. Rahmat Tuhan Lestari, as it struggles to keep pace with rapid market changes. Despite the critical role of POS systems in enhancing customer service and operational efficiency, UR POS's traditional business model no longer aligns with current market demands. Using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and SWOT analysis via the SPACE Matrix, the study identifies 23 strengths, 16 weaknesses, 36 opportunities, and 21 threats. The findings suggest that UR POS should pivot its strategy by focusing on changing customer needs and acquiring new customers. These pivots are then integrated into a new BMC alternative, providing a strategic foundation for adapting and thriving in the evolving market.
