Abstract

Rural has become a prime headline for Indonesia’s development since the enactment of the Rural Act. Since the ratification, rural governments in Indonesia have more authority to manage their village economy through the establishment of a Bumdes. Unfortunately, although several Bumdes show good performance, most have problems that hamper their growth. This article stems from the researchers’ desire to observe the contribution of entrepreneurial activities in the village to rural resilience. This research applied qualitative research by interviewing rural stakeholders in nine Bumdes. The findings of the study indicate that low commitment from village heads and Bumdes directors, low motivation from Bumdes management, inadequate business knowledge from Bumdes management, rural political dynamics, and fluctuations in community participation are all obstacles to Bumdes' ability to promote rural resilience. This research demonstrates that in order to attain rural resilience, Bumdes requires a more holistic strategy to promote stakeholder attachment. https://doi.org/10.21632/irjbs.14.3.257-266

Abstract

The contribution of entrepreneurship at both the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels is remarkable. There are many entrepreneurship development programs (EDP) initiatives proposed by policymakers around the world to ensure the growth of entrepreneurs. While EDP is necessary to improve entrepreneur capabilities, however studies on EDP evaluation literacy remain limited. This study aims to fill the gap by investigating EDP evaluation literacy by using a systematic literature review (SLR). This study carried out a bibliometric analysis on a Scopus database in the last three decades, from 1989 to 2021 with all the manuscripts were written in English. The results show that most of the literature on EDP evaluation-related themes is mainly focused on program evaluation, characteristics, challenges, stakeholders, and context, with program evaluation and characteristics are considered as the most significant issues of EDP evaluation. Interestingly, this study also reveals that few manuscripts review the process of EDP as the success criterion of EDP implementation.

Abstract

Huanghun Bird's Nest is a family business that sells small-scale raw bird's nests (S.M.E.), which has been operating for 20 years in Banyuwangi. The development and growth of the Huanghun Bird's Nest are considered very slow, so the second generation started to develop the Huanghun Bird's Nest by producing finished swallow's nest products that can be directly consumed. This requires a special strategy that is suitable for a family business so that this business can successfully develop and survive. In Indonesia alone, 99% of family businesses are still classified as S.M.E.s. Hence the main objective of this study is to identify strategies to develop a small family business and make it sustainable. The mixed-method was chosen for this study to carry out an interpretive analysis of the subject. The collected data is used to explore internal and external environment analysis. The formulation stage uses internal and external analysis, which then forms a S.W.O.T. and then uses a T.O.W.S. analysis matrix to produce a suitable business strategy. In addition, the Ansoff Matrix was also carried out to find out what strategies will be used to develop this business. The goal of this research is to implement business development strategy to make Huanghun Bird’s Nest developed and sustainable using market development strategy.

Abstract

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts Indonesia with lower economic growth than other countries in South Asia. The research applied a quantitative method. Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Bandung were selected as the research population using the purposive sampling method. Questionnaires were distributed to 153 SMEs as a data collection method. A seven-point Likert scale was used to measure respondents’ agreement for each item or statement. Then, the data were processed using PLS-SEM. The research finds that entrepreneurial intentions and behavior are entrepreneurial factors with a significant positive effect on SDG 8. In addition, SDG 8 has a significant positive effect on sustainability (social, economic, and environmental). Last, the research also contributes to increasing the entrepreneurs’ awareness in understanding the importance of motivation, entrepreneurial intentions, and SDG 8 to realize sustainable SMEs.

Abstract

Although research on entrepreneurial competencies has been widely carried out in the last decades, this topic is still preliminary. Indonesian MSMEs have been severely impacted by COVID-19, with losses of up to millions. Entrepreneurial competencies are believed to be the main driver in handling this issue. Underlined by the disaster and crisis management theory, entrepreneurial competencies are expected to give a company both long-term adaptability and innovation abilities that may result in significant improvements in their business as well as the short-term coping capacity to recover from violent shocks. Thus, this study builds a novel conceptual framework that determines the influence of entrepreneurial competencies on business resilience in the Indonesian MSMEs context. Several mediator variables were also included in the conceptual model: dynamic capability and innovation ambidexterity. Through purposive sampling, a sample of 220 Indonesian MSME actors get involved in this study. PLS-SEM procedure through a two-stage approach was used to test the proposed model. The results show that entrepreneurial competencies significantly impact business resilience in Indonesian MSMEs. It was also found that dynamic capabilities and innovation ambidexterity partially mediated those relationships. From these results, this study suggests that business practitioners should become more aware of their competencies to survive in this uncertain world. In addition, the government must re-educate and ensure that all middle and lower entrepreneurs have appropriate competencies to continue to compete.

Abstract

Abstract. The interactive game sector is one of the promising industries in Indonesia. Indonesia is a developing country, where the creative industry sector in the application and game developer fields is growing well. This developing industry needs supporting infrastructure such as financing and human capital supply. Companies need financing for their operations, marketing, and business expansion. Various funding sources are available for companies such as venture capital, bank loan, personal savings, and liability certificates. Bank loan, a form of conventional financing has its own advantages to support the interactive game industry. On the other hand, the capital structure of interactive game SMEs (small and medium enterprises) holds a small portion of loans, especially bank loan. This study aims to analyze the role of financing support, especially bank loan support for the Indonesian interactive gaming SMEs. The results of the study show that bank loan, although less favored, has the potential to engage more deeply in the interactive gaming industry environment. The study also shows that this type of business has not been maximally touched by banks in financial support. Furthermore, the results show that SMEs that are still in the early stages are more likely to focus on human resources than financial resources. Nevertheless, they still need financial support in several aspects of business development, although not necessary from the support of bank loan. Keywords: Financing, interactive game company, bank loan, small and medium enterprise, Indonesia Abstrak.

Abstract

Continuous effort to strengthen the integration of Islamic commercial finance and Islamic social finance becomes salient. The use of waqf (Islamic endowment) assets for various sector and infrastructure development, which is supported by technological advancement, can also help the economy recover, particularly in the current economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, waqf-based entrepreneurs who contribute significantly to the sustainability of waqf benefits continue to face significant difficulties in obtaining capital for the development of waqf assets. Based on a review of the existing literature and findings from case study through in-depth interviews with selected respondents, the study aims to propose a direct financing model for waqf-based entrepreneurs by empowering affluent Muslim potentials through Islamic banks. There are five (5) fundamental criteria considered as strategic for the integration model to successfully empower waqf-based entrepreneurship in Indonesia, namely continuous literacy and education on contemporary waqf, transformation of regulatory and management transparency, improvement of the professionalism and business capacity of the waqf-based entrepreneurs, synergy and collaboration among stakeholders, and integrated and reliable infrastructure.
