Abstract

The objectives of this research are to analyze the surface backscattering strength of seabed. The single beam echosounder Simrad EK15 with 200 kHz of frequencies was used for recordings of seabed acoustic backscattering. Data collection was conducted in April 29 – Mei 2 2017 which located in the Yos Sudarso Bay, Jayapura, Papua Province. Sampling substrate was taken for ground truth data using sediment grab. The results show that average value of surface backscattering strength of sand varied between -37.48 dB up -36.03 dB, and mud varied between -46.98 dB up -45.15 dB. It shows also that sand has a high substrate roughness, hardness, and grain size larger than the type of mud substrate. In acoustic backscattering values of sand were greater than mud.

Abstract

Papua kaya akan sumberdaya alam, keanekaragaman hayati dan kearifan lokal dalam menjaga sumberdaya alamnya. Sasisen merupakan kearifan lokal yang dimiliki Masyarakat Pesisir Biak dan Tiyaitiki merupakan kearifan lokal yang dimiliki Masyarakat Pesisir Jayapura. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui Sasisen dan Tiyaitiki sebagai model sistem etno konservasi laut dan keterlaksanaannya, (2) mengetahui sejauh mana keterlaksanaan Sasisen dan Tiyaitiki dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor yang melekat pada nelayan (latar belakang pendidikan dan pengalaman). Pelaksanaan penelitian dilakukan pada bulan April-Juli 2018 di wilayah Pesisir Biak (Kepulauan Padaido dan Biak Numfor) dan Depapre Jayapura. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode survey dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dan kuisioner, subjek penelitian adalah masyarakat nelayan dengan jumlah responden 150 responden. Hasil survey menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat memahami pengetahuan Sasisen dan Tiyaitiki dan keterlaksanaannya dalam berbagai aspek (aspek perolehan informasi, pemahaman, keterlaksanaan, dan upaya pengembangan) dibuktikan 68,62% responden telah memperoleh informasi yang baik. Tidak ada hubungan aspek keterlaksanaan dengan faktor-faktor yang melekat pada responden buktinya nelayan dengan pengalaman selama 0 – 40 tahun atau lebih tetap memiliki pemahaman yang sama tentang Sasisen dan Tiyaitiki sebagai sistem etno konservasi laut. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah (1) masyarakat mengetahui Sasisen dan Tiyaitiki sebagai model sistem etno konservasi laut dan keterlaksanaannya, (2) pengetahuan masyarakat tentang kearifan Sasisen dan Tiyaitiki tidak bergantung pada latar belakang pendidikan dan pengalaman responden.

Abstract

Teluk Youtefa merupakan perairan yang potensial untuk penangkapan ikan demersal, terutama oleh nelayan lokal di sekitar Teluk Youtefa. Survei hidroakustik dilakukan untuk mengetahui distribusi target strength (TS) dan menduga ukuran panjang ikan demersal di perairan Teluk Youtefa. Perekaman data hidroakustik dilakukan sepanjang cruise track dengan menggunakan echosounder single beam SIMRAD EK-15 frekuensi 200 kHz. Analisis data menggunakan software Echoview 4.8, dengan threshold antara -34 sampai -70 dB dan ESDU (Elementary Sampling Distance Unit) adalah 100 ping. Ikan demersal pada penelitian ini merupakan ikan yang terdeteksi pada jarak maksimum 3 m dari dasar perairan. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa ikan demersal yang terdeteksi sebanyak 27 schooling yang tersebar pada kedalaman 3,24 sampai 33,44 m. Ikan demersal yang terdeteksi dominan pada kedalaman maksimum 10 m sebanyak 21 schooling. Nilai TS rata-rata ikan demersal berkisar antara -69,58 sampai -45,87 dB. Berdasakan nilai TS yang diperoleh, ikan demersal di perairan Teluk Youtefa didominasi kelompok ikan berukuran kecil. Distribusi ikan demersal di perairan Teluk Youtefa sangat dipengaruhi oleh kedalaman perairan dan tipe substrat dasar perairan.

Abstract

This research was conducted to test the mangrove crab of Sesarmidae family as bio-indicator to assess health status of mangrove ecosystem in Youtefa Bay of Jayapura. Conducted since March-August 2017. Conducted in 3 stations namely St. Enggros, St.Tobati, and St. Nafri. Using the quadratic transect method (1x 1 m) and the quadratic transect (10 x 10 m). Data were analyzed using index of diversity, dominance, evenness, abundance, density, simple linear regression and test criteria of indicator species. The result of the research found the level of mangrove diversity in Enggros Station with the value of index 1.9 then Tobati and Nafri Station of 1, 4 with abundant diversity level. The density of mangroves in the three stations is obtained by Enggors: 1455.6 trees / Ha, Naftri: 1477.8 trees / Ha, and Tobati 1033,5 trees / ha with moderate density categories and good ecosystem health conditions. The biological criteria indicator test shows that the Sesarmidae crab meets the six criteria of the indicator species, so that it can be designated as a species indicator of the health status of the ecosystem.

Abstract

Fish fumigation is one method of fish processing that combines the process of salting, heating and adhering to the chemical components of smoke. Fish fumigation is intended for preservation, but this role has now shifted towards flavor formation, the distinctive color and aroma of smoked fish. Fishermen in Hamadi Village, Jayapura City have been doing of smoked fish for a long time, now it is a main business for every family. But so far the production of processed fish is mostly traditional processing, so it has not considered health and food safety factors such as negative impacts on the environment, as well as consumer concerns about carcinogenic compounds and air pollution. The Training of Technology Utilization use smoking cabinet as an alternative method of fish fuming, it is cheap and easy to apply and environmentally friendly. The methods was following,  the observation, Interviews, Counseling and Training. Activities were carried out in July - August 2018. The results of the activities were obtained, 86% said they had never participated in the activity, while 14% had already followed. After the activities were carried out 57% said they were very satisfied, 43% said they were satisfied.Keywords: Smoking Cabinet, Fish, Society, Jayapura

The aim or this study to analyze temporal distribution and spatial SST in Jayapura waters of Papua Province. SST data from Aqua-MODIS satellite used on June 2011 to May 2015 period. Descriptive analysis on this research consist of temporary SST analysis base on monthly and seasonal fluctuating of SST in time series graph, and spatial analyze base on color degradation visualization on monthly average SST distribution map. The result show that temporal pattern variations in Jayapura waters experience decreasing in four years of monthly SST. Variations of SST in Jayapura waters are 25°C-31°C with dominant SST revolve 27°C-29°C. The maximum SST value in November (29.25°C) and the minimum in March (27.86°C). Variability of SST value in Jayapura waters be affected by moonson. SST value on east monsoon and intermediate II tend more higher than SST on west monsoon and intermediate I. Abstract

Urfu Bay is a relatively new marine tourism destination and quite a favorite among the people of Biak Numfor. The Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS) of Urfu Village is developing mangrove tourism. At the same time, scientific data is not yet available on the area's suitability level and the environment's carrying capacity for mangrove tourism activities. Hence, this research must be carried out to support the sustainable management of Urfu Bay mangrove tourism. The objectives of this study are: (1) knowing the tourism suitability index (IKW); and (2) knowing the carrying capacity of the Urfu Bay mangrove ecosystem (DDK). The study time is six months, which is April to September 2023. This research is located in the mangrove ecosystem of Urfu Bay, Biak Numfor Regency. The research method used is a survey, while random sampling techniques, observation, interviews, and literature studies carry out data collection. The results showed that the mangrove ecosystem of Urfu Bay: (1) Very suitable as a mangrove tourism area with a tourism suitability index (IKW) value of 2.85; and (2) Has an Area Carrying Capacity (DDK) of 381 people per day. This study concludes that the mangrove ecosystem of Urfu Bay is very suitable and prospective for developing mangrove tourism.

Abstract

Local people on Numfor Island are very dependent on coastal and marine natural resources around it, including making seagrass ecosystems as an area to find and capture various marine life to meet their daily needs. Intensive fishing activities cause stress on seagrass ecosystem biota, one of which is Siganus spp. It is known, that some Siganus fish live and breed in seagrass ecosystems, so the existence of habitat and the continuity of their life cycle needs to be studied for scientific data on Numfor Island. The objectives of this study are: (1) analysing seagrass biodiversity, and (2) identifying spawning ground Siganus spp. The research method used is a survey, while data collection is through square line transect techniques, in situ measurements, and interviews (questionnaires). The results of the study obtained are: [1] Seagrass dominance index is low; [2] The Shannon-Wiener Index (H') is moderate at Kansai, Kornasoren, and Andei stations, while at Bawei, Mandori, and Wansra stations are low; [3] Seagrass evenness index is classified as the community in stable condition at Kansai and Bawei stations, while at Kornasoren, Andei, Mandori, and Wansra stations classified as community in unstable condition; and [4] The identified spawning ground locations of Siganus spp. fish on Numfor Island are Kansai, Bawei, Mandori, and Wansra stations. This study concludes that there are no dominant seagrass species and stable ecosystems, medium and low diversity with moderate and severe ecological (environmental) pressures, and seagrass uniformity in stable and unstable conditions
