Abstract

This article discusses the views of preservice biology teachers regarding the factors that dominate their motivation for innovative learning. A total of 152 preservice biology teachers were involved in this study. A correlation test was conducted to determine the relationship between curriculum design, school design, and class design with motivation to implement innovative learning. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The study results show that curriculum, school, and class design are collectively related to the motivation of preservice biology teachers to carry out innovative learning. Based on further analysis, the curriculum design factors significantly contributed to this relationship, while school and classroom design did not contribute significantly to this relationship. These results show that good curriculum design will support implementing innovative learning in the classroom. We recommend some things related to curriculum, school, and class design, the essence of which is the need to seek advice from students and teachers when renovating or building a school. Technology integration is also an important thing to include in the design plan. The government and related parties can use the results of this study in designing their schools or classrooms.Abstrak. Abstract

Scientific literacy includes students' ability to understand scientific concepts, apply that knowledge to solve problems and make decisions based on scientific information. Meanwhile, critical thinking skills involve analysing, evaluating, and synthesising information logically. This study aims to analyse scientific literacy skills, critical thinking skills, and the relationship between the two in elementary school students. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a correlational type. The population in the study involved 68 students of grade V MI Muhammadiyah Trangsan, so a sample of 58 students was obtained using the Slovin formula. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Data were collected through essay tests of scientific literacy and critical thinking skills on the water cycle material. The results showed an average value of scientific literacy of 62.71, which is in the moderate category; an average value of critical thinking skills of 71.93, which is in the moderate category; and a correlation coefficient value of 0.617, which indicates a fairly strong positive relationship. This result means that the higher the students' scientific literacy skills, the better their critical thinking skills. A simple linear regression test shows R2 = 0.381, meaning that scientific literacy factors influence 33.8% of critical thinking skills, while other factors influence the remaining 66.2%. This finding indicates the importance of strengthening scientific literacy in learning to improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Stomata are important structures on the leaf surface that function to regulate gas exchange and water loss in plants. Students often experience misconceptions about the relationship between plant structure and function because the learning resources used tend to be text-based without the support of contextual examples or direct observation. This study aims to identify the types of stomata in three types of shade trees within the UIN Raden Mas Said environment, serving as contextual learning resources for plant structure and development. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The materials used include ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa), pulai leaves (Alstonia scholaris), and breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis), as well as distilled water. Observations were made under a light microscope at 100× and 400× magnification. The observation data were analysed descriptively by comparing the characteristics of the stomata found in the three species with those of stomata types in the literature. Observations show that ketapang (Terminalia catappa) and breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) leaves have anomocytic stomata, while pulai (Alstonia scholaris) leaves have anisocytic stomata. These findings provide stomatal morphology data that can be used as locally based teaching materials to enhance students' connections between botanical concepts and their environment.
