Abstract

This article performs a descriptive analysis of the relationship between health securitization and health communication. The pandemic situation is a test for securitizing actors to be able to apply appropriate securitization strategies to referent objects for mutual safety. But one thing that cannot be done is to predict when the pandemic will end. Eventually, this becomes a long-term game that requires adaptive health communication strategies. Health securitization during a pandemic requires the application of a health communication strategy that can maintain the trust of the referent object so that the securitizing actor’s efforts to return the situation to normal.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology today has significantly influenced educational processes, both formal and non-formal. It has also impacted learning materials and the methods used to deliver them during the teaching and learning process. However, not all educational institutions are able to take advantage of this technological advancement—one example is the Qur'anic Education Center (Tempat Pendidikan Al-Qur’an, or TPA). TPA is a non-formal educational institution in which the learning process predominantly relies on traditional lecture-based methods delivered by instructors. This often results in low student attention and limited understanding of the learning material. To address this issue, an interactive learning media application was designed to support the introduction of basic Islamic religious knowledge. The aim of this research is to test the functionality of the developed learning media application in order to minimize anomalies and ensure usability. One of the suitable software testing approaches used in this context is user acceptance testing. The testing methods implemented in this study include alpha testing and beta testing. The alpha testing results indicate that the application functions as expected for each tested case scenario. Furthermore, the beta testing results showed an average survey score of 82% across the criteria of usability, ease of learning, ease of use, and user satisfaction

Abstract

Stock investment has become to be one of the most interesting andpromising ways to provide a faster rate of return compared to otherinvestments. Markowitz has set foundations about how to take a goodinvestment decision by considering its expected return and standarddeviation. The purpose of this research is two-fold. First, is tocompare the total portfolio risk between international and domesticportfolio diversification. Second, is to find the relationship betweenportfolio size and portfolio risk. This research applies mean-standarddeviations, paired t-test, and simple regression analysis on theAmerican, German, and Indonesian stock markets. The results showthat international diversification gives more significant total riskreduction compared to domestic one. Another results show asignificant relationship between portfolio size and risk reduction. Itmeans that the more number of stock in portfolio, the lesser risk thatwill be taken. The least risk can be achieved by holding 15 stockswhether in domestic or international portfolio diversification. Theresults have revealed that diversification has a positive impactthrough stock investment. This study strongly recommends todiversify the investment internationally and to increase the portfoliosize to gain the lower risk.

The variables across SSB members, SSB education level, bank age, and bank profitability have a negative effect. Meanwhile, the SSB expertise variable, SSB remuneration, and turnover do not affect tax avoidance.Implications – Islamic banks play an essential role in social welfare to align with tax contributions in developing countries. Therefore, tax regulators and Islamic banks must collaborate to review the treatment of expenses according to tax regulations.Originality – This study fills a research gap by investigating the relationship between SSB characteristics and tax avoidance in Indonesian Islamic banks, which has yet to be discussed in previous papers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between human capital (HC), quality of the shariah supervisory board (SSB) and performance of maqasid shariah-based Islamic banks. This study uses secondary data from the Bankscope database of 2014 to 2018. The research samples comprised 75 banks from a total population of 96 banks. Using the dynamic panel regression two-step generalised method of moments (GMM), this study revealed that HC has a significant and positive influence on sharia maqasid-based performance. SSB quality has a significant and negative effect on Islamic banks' performance. These findings support the resources-based theory that assumes more efficient human capital can facilitate the achievement of better organisation performance. The results may serve as a guideline for Islamic bank managers to enhance their bank human capital as it has a positive relationship with maqasid sharia-based performance.

Abstract

Introduction: Thyroid cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, with incidence 144,7: 100.000 population. The incidence has risen up to 211% within the last 30 years, and one–third of thyroid cancer is papillary thyroid microcarcinoma. There are still controversies regarding whether immediate surgery or active surveillance is the better option for treating this condition. This review aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of active papillary thyroid microcarcinoma surveillance. Methods: Cochrane, PubMed, EBSCOHost, and ProQuest were searched for relevant studies of active surveillance of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma. Results: Six publications were selected after a literature search and review Conclusion: Active surveillance could be implemented as a treatment of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma in selected cases. The overall survival rate of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma is up to 99%, with cancer growth >3mm at 4.4% to 8%. Lymph node metastases were 1.2% to 3.8%, and distant metastases were only found in 0.04% of cases
