Abstract

This literature review examines how self-perception, learning environment, and learning motivation influence Physical Education outcomes in elementary schools. Despite the recognized importance of Physical Education for developing motor skills and promoting lifelong physical activity, variations in student achievement remain poorly understood. Using PRISMA guidelines, fifteen empirical studies published between 2018 and 2025 were selected from international and national databases and analyzed through qualitative thematic synthesis. Findings indicate that positive self-perception enhances students’ engagement and motor performance, supportive learning environments foster autonomy and competence, and intrinsic motivation mediates the translation of psychological and environmental factors into measurable outcomes. However, most studies were cross-sectional, limiting causal inferences, and contextual variations suggest that cultural and pedagogical factors influence these relationships. The review highlights the need for integrated instructional strategies that promote confidence, autonomy, and motivation simultaneously, and recommends longitudinal and experimental studies to clarify causal pathways and optimize evidence-based practices in elementary Physical Education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of arm muscle explosive power, hand–eye coordination, and training concentration on badminton playing skills among elementary school students. A quantitative approach with path analysis was employed to analyze both direct and simultaneous relationships among variables. The sample consisted of 30 male students aged 10–12 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using performance-based tests and standardized instruments, including a medicine ball throw test, shuttlecock wall toss test, grid concentration test, and badminton skill tests (service, lob, and smash). The results showed that arm muscle explosive power (β = 0.664; p < 0.001), hand–eye coordination (β = 0.234; p = 0.045), and training concentration (β = 0.269; p = 0.023) had significant positive effects on badminton skills. Simultaneously, these variables explained 70.6% of performance variance (R² = 0.706). In conclusion, badminton performance is influenced by integrated physical, coordinative, and psychological factors, with explosive power as the dominant predictor.

Abstract

Learning motivation shapes students’ engagement, persistence, and effort in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PESH); however, the strength of its association with PESH grades in an Islamic junior secondary school context remains insufficiently understood. This study examined the relationship between learning motivation and PESH achievement among eighth-grade students at MTsN 5 Padang. A quantitative correlational design was employed. From a population of 1,042 students, 91 eighth-grade students participated in the study. Learning motivation was measured using a five-point Likert questionnaire, while achievement was represented by PESH report-card grades for the July–December 2025 semester. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Lilliefors normality test, Pearson’s correlation, a significance test for the correlation coefficient, a confidence interval, and the coefficient of determination. The mean scores for learning motivation and achievement were 83.00 and 71.00, respectively. The analysis yielded a very strong positive correlation (r = .952, 95% CI [.928, .968], t(89) = 29.34, p < .001), with 90.63% shared variance. Students with higher learning motivation therefore tended to obtain higher PESH grades. Nevertheless, this unusually large correlation should be interpreted cautiously because a correlational design does not establish causality, and report-card grades may partly reflect effort, participation, and teacher judgment. Verification using paired raw data, linearity and outlier diagnostics, and complete evidence of instrument validity and reliability is required before broader conclusions are drawn.

Abstract

Badminton is a high-intensity sport that requires excellent footwork, agility, and explosive movements. Footwork techniques are essential for positioning the body to execute optimal strokes, and deficiencies in this area can negatively affect performance. Plyometric training improves lower-body power and quickness, while shadow training enhances movement patterns and court positioning. Combining these two methods may significantly improve footwork performance, particularly among under-21 male athletes, yet this approach remains underexplored. This study examined the effect of combined plyometric and shadow training on the footwork ability of badminton athletes. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was used, involving fifteen under-21 male badminton athletes from Universitas Negeri Padang selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria of being active, under-21, and injury-free. Participants completed sixteen training sessions of combined plyometric and shadow exercises. Footwork ability was measured before and after the intervention using the validated six-way footwork test with a shuttlecock, recorded manually with a stopwatch. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26, applying normality and homogeneity tests followed by a paired-sample t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in footwork performance (p < 0.05), with most athletes shifting from “poor” in the pretest to “good” or “excellent” classifications in the posttest. These findings demonstrate that the combined training effectively enhanced agility, coordination, and movement efficiency. In conclusion, the integration of plyometric and shadow training provides an effective and engaging approach for improving badminton athletes’ footwork ability and can be recommended for coaches aiming to optimize player performance.
