Abstract

The Community Partnership Program (PKM) aims to increase the creativity of English teachers and overcome several problems such as lack of understanding of learning methods, administrative limitations, learning tools and infrastructure. The solutions offered include providing training to vocational school teachers, providing learning tools according to the curriculum, making teaching aids, building adequate facilities and infrastructure, and holding training to design innovative learning tools. Solution methods for partners involve Information Technology (IT) training, using media and conversation modules as teaching materials, as well as providing English conversation modules for vocational students. Apart from that, internships are recommended for STKIP Bina Insan Mandiri students. The target of this PKM activity is to help English teachers improve the learning process and learning outcomes, as well as increase vocational school students' ability to communicate actively using English through conversation.

Abstract

This research analyzes Teaching English in elementary schools plays a pivotal role in shaping the language skills of young learners. Unfortunately, it is a common case that in Indonesia that a school doesn’t have English teachers, and homeroom teachers have to teach English. Therefore, this study delves into investigating the teaching and learning in one of the elementary schools that has no English teachers. In addition, it strived to seek out the challenges faced by non-English major teachers in the school under study as well as portray their English teaching practice. Further, this study explored strategies to improve their professional development in English language instruction. Through a qualitative research approach, including questionnaires and focus group discussions (FGD), The findings highlighted mostly the teachers who graduated from PGSD confirmed that they faced difficulty using English as a means of classroom communication. Additionally, it was found that listening as a receptive skill is neglected, as are communicative activities. The participants shared that grammar was mostly taught, although they mentioned they had difficulty with it. The implications of this research extend to curriculum design, pedagogical practices, and policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the quality of English language education for young learners in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Praktik patriarki yang menggunakan perempuan sebagai objek seksual dalam iklan visual menundukkan stereotip gender, mempromosikan dominasi perempuan di berbagai bidang kehidupan, dan memicu pelecehan seksual. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk me(re)konstruksi citra perempuan dalam media visual periklanan Indonesia sebagai upaya pencegahan kekerasan seksual terhadap perempuan serta dapat menjadi bahan kajian untuk menentukan kebijakan dalam peraturan periklanan di Indonesia. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Kualitatif. Data diambil dari media yaitu Iklan TV yang tayang di Youtube, dan Angket. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Stuart Hall dan didukung oleh konsep Male Gaze. Hasil dari penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa beberapa iklan menampilkan citra perempuan bermartabat, namun representasi citra perempuan di media periklanan di Indonesia menunjukkan kecenderungan objektifikasi yang signifikan. Terlebih, dari hasil kuesioner yang dibagikan ke 60 responden menunjukkan masih rendahnya tingkat kesadaran masyarakat akan objektifikasi perempuan dalam media visual periklanan. Peran masyarakat sipil, pelaku bisnis, dan pemerintah sebagai pemegang regulasi saling berkolaborasi untuk menghindari objektifikasi sehingga mencegah kekerasan seksual terhadap perempuan dalam ranah domestik ataupun publik.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal women desires for freedom (without any menace), but she reproduces of male power restraints as it is represented in the drama script of Harold Pinter’s The Room. This research uses Žižek’s critical thinking framework regarding ideology, subject and practice. The approach used in this research is ground theory, the data used are quotations in the script, and the data source is the play script Harold Pinter’s The Room. With interpretation analysis techniques, this research reveals that the great ideals of women’s freedom are fantasmatic. Women’s freedom is an ideological fantasy. This play script reflects women’s freedom but instead explains the reality that they are shackled by patriarchal discourse. Harol Pinter seems to assert male power through the definition of women’s freedom through Rose in The Room. Therefore, the result shows that postmodernist, whose perspective is opposed to hierarchal system, is still trapped in patriarchal perspective AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap hasrat perempuan akan kebebasan (tanpa ancaman), namun ia justru mereproduksi pengekangan kekuasaan laki-laki seperti yang ada dalam naskah drama The Room karya Harold Pinter. Penelitian ini menggunakan kerangka berpikir kritis Žižek tentang ideologi, subjek dan tindakan. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah grounded theory, data yang digunakan adalah kutipan dalam naskah, dan sumber datanya adalah naskah drama The Room karya Harold Pinter. Dengan Teknik analisis interpretasi, penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa cita-cita agung kebebasan perempuan bersifat fantasmatik. Kebebasan perempuan adalah fantasi ideologis. Teks drama ini merefleksikan Kebebasan perempuan tetapi justru menjelaskan realitas bahwa ia terbelenggu oleh wacana patriarkis. Harold Pinter menegaskan kuasa laki-laki melalui definisi kebebasan perempuan melalaui Rose dalam The Room. Dengan kata lain, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa posmodernis, yang notabene menentang hirarki, juga ada yang patriarkis.
