Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Postpartum anemia remains a prevalent health issue in Indonesia and can hinder maternal recovery after childbirth. Local non-pharmacological options, such as moringa leaves rich in iron, vitamin C, and antioxidants, offer potential benefits for improving hemoglobin levels. However, community knowledge about their benefits and proper use is still limited. Objective: The purpose of this service was to improve the knowledge of postpartum mothers with anemia regarding the potential use of moringa leaves as a nutritional source to support the increase of hemoglobin levels. Method: The activity was carried out from 1–20 November 2025 using an educational approach within the “Postpartum Education Class.” The sessions included interactive lectures, discussions, and the delivery of information on the nutritional content of moringa leaves, their benefits for postpartum mothers, and recommended safe forms of daily consumption. Evaluation was conducted through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in participants’ knowledge, attitude and motivation unsing moringa leaves. Result: There was a change between the pre-test and post-test in knowledge in the good category (33.3% vs. 100%), attitude in the positive category (20% vs. 100%), and motivation in the positive category (26.7% vs. 100%). Data analysis using McNemar’s test showed a significant increase in the levels of knowledge (p < 0.001), attitude (p < 0.001), and motivation (p < 0.001) of postpartum mothers after participating in the Postpartum Education Class. Conclusion: The education provided was effective in enhancing the understanding of postpartum mothers regarding the use of moringa leaves as a supportive effort in managing anemia.

Abstract

Introduction: Effective communication and caring behavior are essential components of nursing services that influence patient comfort, satisfaction, and quality of care. Preliminary assessments at the Interna Women’s Inpatient Unit of Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares indicated suboptimal nurse–patient communication, reflected in patient complaints and limited understanding of therapeutic communication principles among nurses. Objective: The purpose of this community service was to improve nurses’ knowledge and practice of effective communication and caring behavior in inpatient nursing care. Method: This public service was conducted using a descriptive–intervention approach involving education, training, and coaching for nurses. Problem identification and prioritization were performed using fishbone, USG (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth), and SWOT analyses. Evaluation was carried out using a pre-test and post-test design and direct observation of nursing practices. Result: The results showed an improvement in nurses’ knowledge scores from 72% at pre-test to 88% at post-test, indicating a 16% increase after the intervention. Observations also revealed better implementation of structured communication, self-introduction, clear explanation of procedures, and more empathetic nurse–patient interactions. Conclusion: The community service intervention effectively improved nurses’ communication knowledge and caring behavior, supporting the enhancement of nursing service quality and patient-centered care.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is a natural process that strengthens the mother–infant bond and requires patience, knowledge, and family support, especially from husbands. This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal knowledge and husband’s support with the motivation of postpartum mothers in breastfeeding. An analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was used, involving 40 postpartum mothers selected through purposive sampling. Independent variables were maternal knowledge and husband’s support; the dependent variable was breastfeeding motivation. Data collected using questionnaires and analyzed with the chi-square test. The results were that 50% of respondents had good knowledge, 57.5% received husband’s support, and 65% had positive breastfeeding motivation. Chi-Square analysis revealed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and husband’s support and breastfeeding motivation (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Maternal knowledge and husband’s support are critical determinants of breastfeeding motivation. Strengthening health education and encouraging active husband involvement are recommended strategies to enhance exclusive breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

Teenage pregnancy remains a leading cause of maternal and neonatal mortality, posing significantly higher risks compared to pregnancies in the standard reproductive age. This study aimed to investigate the influence of teenage pregnancy on maternal and perinatal outcomes at RSI Aminah Blitar. A retrospective cross-sectional design was employed using purposive sampling of secondary data from 52 medical records. The independent variable was teenage pregnancy, while the dependent variables were maternal and perinatal outcomes. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square statistical test. High frequencies of complications were observed: anemia (87%), preeclampsia (85%), and premature rupture of membranes (PROM) (73%). Perinatal outcomes included prematurity (60%), low birth weight (LBW) (52%), and asphyxia (56%). Chi-square analysis revealed that teenage pregnancy significantly influenced maternal outcomes such as anemia (p=0.001), preeclampsia (p=0.000), and PROM (p=0.000). However, no significant correlation was found with instrumental delivery (p=0.887), prolonged labor (p=0.636), or postpartum hemorrhage (p=0.168). Regarding perinatal outcomes, teenage pregnancy significantly affected prematurity, LBW, and asphyxia (all p=0.000). Teenage pregnancy is strongly associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. There is an urgent need for collaborative support from healthcare providers and families to ensure high-quality midwifery care, aiming to mitigate complications from gestation through delivery.
