Abstract

The history and development of Islam in Indonesia are enriched by the existence of manuscripts written in Arabic language or written in Arabic script, like Pegon or Jawi although they do not use Arabic. In the context of corpus linguistics, the manuscript is a proof of the existence and dynamics of real Arabic usage by Indonesian speakers. This paper describes several classifications of manuscripts written in Arabic and their urgency as the material of Arabic corpus data in Indonesia in the context of the development of multidisciplinary Arabic research. Furthermore, the manuscript will be mapped based on seven types of Arabic corpus in Indonesia. Based on the mapping, it is projected that the majority of Arabic manuscripts in the archipelago are categorized as a corpus of scientific works, the corpus of Islamic studies, and corpus of literary works. For this purpose, it is necessary to process those manuscripts into digital text material to be analyzed with corpus processing applications through three stages: image scanning, image conversion into text, and manual text verification.

Abstract

In the era of technology that continues to develop, the way to communicate also develops. One of them is the chatbot as a friend of human communication. This research examines a chatbot that can make users laugh or upset because of the uniqueness of its responses. That is SimSimi, an artificial intelligence. This research examines the extent of SimSimi can communicate effectively and efficiently. In answering this matter, this research analyzes in what topics the flouting maxims are mostly committed by SimSimi. The analysis process relies on the principle of cooperation Grice (1975). Further, each flouting maxims is explored about the strategy of violations that occur, by referring to the idea of ??Cutting (2002) about the maxim violation strategy. In addition, with SimSimi's multilingual expertise, this research also compares the differences in the frequency of flouting maxims by SimSimi in Arabic and English. Therefore, this research utilizes comparative studies using qualitative methods. The conversations analyzed were 40 conversations containing 4 topics. Based on 20 Arabic conversations, there were 32 flouting maxims. As for the 20 conversations in English, there were 30 flouting maxims. This shows the comparison of the frequency of flouting maxims in Arabic and English dialogue at 16:15. As for the strategies of flouting maxims that occurred, there are 10 kinds of strategies in Arabic dialogue and 6 kinds of strategies in English dialogue. In Arabic dialogues, the topic that contains the most violations of the maxims is the topic of religion. So it is with English dialogue. The results of the research show that SimSimi in English can communicate more effectively and efficiently compared to its use in Arabic.

Abstract

هناك نوعان من ضمائر سوابق أكثر إثارة للمناقشة في تصريف الأفعال المضارعة في اللغة العربية، وهما/ي/ و/ ت/. ويتركز النقاش حول علاقة الشكل والمعنى لتلك الضمائر التي تم تداخل بعضها مع بعض لتحديد معناها المراد. وضمير الغائبات يستخدم بـ/ي/ مع أنّها  مستخدمة أيضا في التعبير عن ضمير الغائب. والظاهرة الأخرى أنّ /ت/ تدل على الغائبة والغائبتين بحيث إنّها تُستَخدم كذلك للتعبير عن المخاطب والمخاطبة. والسؤال في هذه الدراسة هو كيف تعيين كل من هذه السوابق بمعنى واحد من أجل الخوارزمية.  فمن خلال استخدام  نظرية المفاضلة أو المعروفة ب- optimality theory ، يمكن الحلّ على هذا التداخل بتحقيق علاقة فردية بين الشكل والمعنى من أجل صياغة الخوارزمية. يعد قيد تقسيم الميزة * من Xu   أحد الأدوات التي يجب توجيهها في إنشاء الشكل الأفضل. وأوضحت نتائج الدراسة أن وظيفة /ت-/ لتعبير المخاطب والمخاطبة  برمز / ت-/  {2} و أن وظيفة / ي-/ للتعبير الغائب و الغائبة .الكلمات المفتاحية : ضمائر سوابق ؛ تصريف الأفعال المضارعة؛ تقسيم الميزة.Abstract:Two prefix pronouns that often debated in the imperative verb conjugation in Arabic namely /y-/ and /t-/. The overlapping relationship of form and meaning in the two prefixes is the problem. The plural feminine third person pronoun is expressed by the prefix /y-/, whereas /y-/ also expresses the masculine third person pronoun. The singular and dual feminine third person pronouns are realized by the prefix /t-/, whereas /t-/ also denotes the second person. The way of mapping each prefix related to the meaning based on the algorithm. These problem can be overcome through the paradigm of Optimality Theory which revealed the relationship between form and meaning due to the algorithm formulation. Xu’s constraint is one of the instruments to guide us generate the most optimal form. This research revealed that the personal pronoun of the second person symbolized by /t-/ while the third person was symbolized by /y-/.

Abstract

Abstrak – Dalam literatur tata bahasa Arab, ada tiga jenis verba (An Nahwul Wadih, tt), (Qawa'idul Lughatil Arabiyyah Al Muyassarah, 1982), (Mulakhos Qawaidul lughah, tt), (Jami'ud Durusil Lughatil Arabiyyah, 1999), yaitu verba madi, verba mudari’, dan verba amr. Verba ma:di adalah verba yang menyatakan suatu tindakan pada saat sebelum berbicara; verba muda:ri’ adalah verba yang menggambarkan tindakan pada saat berbicara dan akan datang, dan verba amr adalah verba yang memerintahkan orang lain untuk melakukan sesuatu di masa depan. Penjelasan in didasarkan pada temporalitas peristiwa atau perbuatan dilihat dari pusat deiktis saat pengujaran. Jika kita mencoba untuk menganalisis secara mendalam dari paradigma ahli bahasa barat, kita akan mendapatkan pandangan lain tentang verba ini. Mereka menyimpulkan bahwa dua bentuk verba dalam bahasa Arab, yaitu ma: di dan muda: ri’ mengacu pada aspektualitas, yang  berfokus pada faktor non-deictic. Pada aspektualitas, yang dilihat adalah  tindakan yang sempurna atau tidak sempurna bergantung waktu saat berbicara. Kedua pendapat yang berbeda tentang verba dalam tata bahasa Arab itulah yang akan menjadi masalah dasar untuk dikomparasikan dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian akan menyajikan data dari berbagai jenis teks; dan akan menjadi bukti masing-masing paradigma. Abstract – In literatures of Arabic grammar, there are three kinds of verb (An Nahwul Wadih, tt) , (Qawa’idul Lughatil Arabiyyah Al Muyassarah, 1982), (Mulakhos Qawaidul Lughah, tt), Jami’ud Durusil Lughatil Arabiyyahh, 1999 ), which are perfect verb is  the verb that express an action at the time before speaking, imperfect verb is the verb that describe an action at the time of speaking and the future, imperative verb is the verb that command others to do something at the future. Those explanation are based on  the temporality of  the action take time. If we try to deeply  analyze it from the west linguists paradigm, we will get another sight about these verbs. Actually, they conclude that arabic two verbs; ma:di and muda:ri’ refer to aspectuality, which be able to get the verbs from non-deictic focus. It will be about perfect or imperfect action while the time takes place. Those two different opinions about verbs in Arabic grammar  will be the basic problem, that will be comparised in this research. This will present the data from many kinds of text; and it will be the proof of each paradigm. Keywords – Perfect verb, imperfect verb, tense, aspect, temporality of language.

Abstract

Abstraksi -  Penelitian ini secara umum bertujuan memperoleh fakta empiris tentang pendapatan keluarga dan kaitannya dengan prestasi akademik mahasiswa, khususnya pada mahasiswa sastra Arab UAI. Prestasi akademik merujuk pada indeks prestasi kumulatif per semester atau pertahun. Secara teoritis prestasi akademik dipandang sebagai output dari koleksi investasi dalam pendidikan. Namun, Meskipun prestasi akademik siswa dianggap sebagai output langsung dari input alokasi investasi dalam pendidikan yang diusahakan oleh orang tua, tingkat keberhasilannya dianggap bergantung pada sejumlah faktor eksogen yang melekat pada siswa, keluarga, atau sekolah. Faktor-faktor eksogen ini antara lain adalah kumpulan karakteristik anak atau siswa, seperti jenis kelamin, usia dan kemampuan bawaan. Dengan menggunakan analisa deskriptif dan analisa inference, diperoleh hasil penelitian yang menyatakan bahwa prestasi akademik mahasiswa menurut kelompok pendapatan orang tua, tidak bisa terlihat secara nyata, pada masing-masing tahun masuk atau angkatan di UAI. Hal yang sama juga ditemukan pada analisa perbedaan prestasi akademik mahasiswa menurut kelompok pendapatan orang tua, pada masing-masing kelompok jenis kelamin, status beasiswa, dan pendidikan terakhir sebelum memasuki UAI. Ini menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik siswa belum cukup kuat untuk mendukung kita membedakan perbedaan prestasi akademik mahasiswa berdasarkan pendapatan orang tua mereka.  Abstract - The aim of this reseach is to empirically investigate the relation between academic achievement and parent’s income  of students  in the department of arabic at the University of Al-Azhar Indonesia. The arabic department students that has been admitted to the University from  2008 to 2011 academic year are selected to be a sample in this study. Using the student’s first year grade point average (GPA), as the proxy of student’s academic achievement,  and his/her ordinal scaled monthly parent’s income as independent variable, as well as other student’s characteristic variables as additional exogenous variables, the study reveals that the arabic students academic achievement are on average not signficantly different based on their parent’s income, especially for those students with motnhly parents equals to or gretaer than ten million rupiahs (high income level). For those wiht parents income less than ten million rupiahs, there is slightly the negative relation between students academic achievement and their parents income, but the result of testing hypothesis do not support this descriptive statistics. Similar results are found when student’s chracteristics such as gender, admission year into the University, and the type of pre-university eduacation, are included in the analysis. There is no significantly differences in general in academic achievement between students in different parents income level. However if we group students based on their characteristics, there are some differences significantly found in the academic achievement of students in different particular characteristic, especially in different entry academic year, gender or the type of their last education.

Abstract

Abstrak - Penelitian ini mengupas sejarah dan asal-usul bahasa Arab Amiyah Mesir yang juga menelusuri negara-negara mana saja yang bahasanya diserap oleh bahasa Amiyah Mesir. Teori yang digunakan  penulis sebagai rujukan utama dalam menelaah kaidah bahasa Amiyah Mesir adalah teori Ahmad Akram Malibary yang kemudian membandingkannya dengan bahasa Arab Klasik. Dari perbandingan tersebut terlihat cukup signifikan perbedaannya antara kedua bahasa tersebut, baik dari sisi pengucapan hurufnya, maupun penambahan huruf akhir pada verba tertentu. Kata kunci - Bahasa Amiyah Mesir, Bahasa Arab Klasik,  Ahmad Akram Malibary Abstract – This research examines the hisory and origins of Arabic language “Amiyah Mesir” wich also explores wich country absorbed by the “ Amiyah Mesir “Language. The theory used the author as the main reference in examining the rues of “Amiyah Mesir” adalah Ahmad Akram Malibary’s theory which then compares it with Clasical Arabic. From the comparison it looks quite significnt difference between the two languages, both in terms of pronounciations of the letters, as well as the addition of the final letter on a particular verb. Keywords – Amiyah Mesir Language, Arab Clasical Language, Ahmad Akram Malibary

Abstract

This paper investigates the effect of student aid programs introduced by Alazhar Indonesia University (UAI) on the study duration of bachelor program students who registered at the university in the academic years of 2004 – 2006. We apply semiparametric duration model with censored and complete data for this study. Estimation results, using a partial maximum-likelihood technique and considering several risk factors representing student aids, demographic, and individual traits, reveal that student aid programs are significantly abel to explain the variation of student’s study duration and also their probability to gaduate from UAI after certain period of study time. In general the higher the period of student aid received, the shorter the student’s study period. In addition there is empirical facts that regardless of their traits and characteristics, student’s probability to graduate will be bigger when his/her study period has exceed eight semester.

Abstract

Abstrak – Pada hakikatnya, di dalam ketidakteraturan ada pola yang teratur. Kajian ini hendak mencermati dan menemukan keteraturan pola dalam ketidakteraturan proses morfologis infleksi nominal bahasa Arab, jamak taksir. Bentuk-bentuk yang dinamis dan beragam pada perubahan bentuk singular menjadi plural dalam jamak taksir memiliki kecenderungan yang dapat dipetakan menjadi pola tertentu. Untuk memotret fenomena tersebut, kajian awal ini mengambil data dari kamus Arab-Inggris Hans Wher dari entri alif hingga kha’, yang dibatasi pada ism tunggal yang berpola fa’lun, fi’lun, fi’latun, fi’a:lun, fu’latun, fa’alun, dan fa’latun. Dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif, masing-masing bentuk singular akan dicermati aspek fonologis dan semantisnya; yang menjadi bentuk plural dengan karakteristik fonologis dan semantik yang juga menjadi fokus perhatian. Kajian ini membenarkan tesis dari Pingker tentang pola-pola tidak teratur yang sebenarnya memuat keteraturan. Dalam riset ini, sebagian besar bentuk plural dari jamak taksir dapat diramalkan dengan melihat consonant order dari bentuk tunggalnya.Abstract – Actually, there is a regular pattern in irregularities. This study was to examine and find the regularity patterns in the irregularities of the nominal inflection of morphological process of Arabic, jamak taksir. Dynamic and varied forms of morphological process from singular to plural in the jamak taksir have a tendency that can be mapped into certain regular patterns. To capture the phenomenon, this initial study took data from Hans Wher's Arabic-English dictionary from the Alif to Kha ' entry, which was confined to the singular ISM patterned fa'lun, fi'lun, fi'latun, fi'a:lun, fu'latun, fa'alun, and fa'latun. With qualitative descriptive methods, each singular form will be examined by the phonological aspect and its semantics; which became a plural with the phonological and semantic characteristics that also became the focus of attention. This study justifies the thesis of the Pingker on irregular patterns that actually load regularity. In this research, most of the plural form of the jamak taksir can be predicted by looking at the order consonant from the singular.Keywords - Arabic broken plural, irregularity, inflection, phonological aspect.

Abstract

Abstrak – Paper ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan masalah pembelajaran linguistik bahasa Arab di Program Studi Sastra Arab UAI dalam kegiatan perkuliahan di setiap semester dan tesis akhir.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari 75% siswa di program studi sastra Arab menulis tesis sarjana mereka, seperti topic linguistik daripada topic lainnya. Namun, ketertarikan pada linguistic tidak diikuti oleh pemahaman dan penguasaan bahasa linguistic yang lebih baik. Dengan mewawancarai dan mengamati 20 responden siswa yang telah menyelesaikan tesis sarjana mereka, dan 4 orang dosen linguistik, masalah pembelajaran linguistik bahasa Arab akan terungkap dan solusi potensial akan diajukan. Kata Kunci – Mata Kulia Linguistik Arab, Permasalahan, dan Solusi Abstract - This paper aims to reveal the problems of Arabic linguistics learning in the Department of Arabic Letter UAI in the lecture activities in each semester and the final thesis. The result of the study revealed that more than 75% of students  in the Department of Arabic Letter that are writing their bachelor thesis, like a linguistics topics than other topics. However, the interest in the linguistics are not followed by the better understanding and  mastery about linguistics. By interviewing and observing 20 student respondents that have been finishing their bachelor thesis, and 4 linguistics lecturer respondents , the problem of Arabic linguistics learning will be revealed and the potential solutions  will be proposed.  Keywords: Arabic Linguistics learning, problems, and solutions

Abstract

Abstrak – Saat ini,  signage-signage di Indonesia, terutama di bandara ditulis dalam empat bahasa, yaitu bahasa Indonesia, bahasa Inggris, bahasa Mandarin, dan bahasa Arab.  Fenomena penambahan bahasa Arab pada signage adalah sesuatu yang menarik untuk diamati lebih jauh, mengingat ada cukup banyak wisatawan yang berasal dari negeri Arab yang datang ke Indonesia. Penelitian ini diupayakan untuk dapat menjawab seputar penggunaan bahasa Arab pada papan petunjuk itu, antara lain; mengkaji keberterimaan penggunaan bahasa Arab tersebut oleh para wisatawan baik dari segi diksi, maupun kaidah gramatikalnya, dan mendeskripsikan aspek sintak-semantis bahasa Arab pada papan petunjuk itu. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif dan metode analisis yang deskrptif, diperoleh hasil yang menyatakan bahwa signage yang berupa kata atau frasa, pada tataran struktur lahir (surface structure) adalah sebuah kalimat minor yang unsur subjeknya dilesapkan guna efisiensi dan efektifitas, serta readibilitas sebuah signage. Kalimat yang lengkap, yang ada unsur subjek dan predikatnya justru muncul pada struktur batin (deep structure)nya. Unsur subjek yang dilesapkan tersebut adalah pronomina demonstrativa. Pada signage yang berupa kalimat, jika ditinjau dari struktur lahir dan struktur batin, tidak mengalami perbedaan seperti pada signage kata atau frasa. Dari sudut pandang semantis, makna yang muncul pada setiap signage adalah makna denotatif,  Adapun dari  analisis kesalahan penulisan dan ketepatan pemilihan kata, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa sebagian signage sudah benar penulisannya dan sudah tepat pilihan katanya. Namun, ada sebuah kesalahan gramatika dan pemilihan diksi, yang ditemukan pada signage 2; dan ada pula penyampaian sebuah bentuk larangan yang menurut responden kurang tepat secara kultural.Abstract – Nowadays, signage-signage in Indonesia, especially in airports is written in four languages, namely Indonesian, English, Chinese, and Arabic. The phenomenon of the addition of Arabic on the signage is something that is interesting to observe further, considering there are quite a lot of tourists from Arab countries who came to Indonesia. This study attempted to answer about the use of Arabic on the user board, include; assess the acceptability of the use of the Arabic language by the tourists both in terms of diction, as well as grammatical rules, and describes the syntax-semantic aspects of Arabic on the user board. Through qualitative approach and descriptive analysis method, obtained results stating that the signage in the form of words or phrases, at the level of the surface structure is a minor sentence elements omitted subject to the efficiency and effectiveness, as well as a signage readibilitas. Complete sentences, that there are elements of the subject and the predicate it appears on the inner structure (deep structure) it. Element omitted subject is a pronoun demonstrativa. On signage in the form of the sentence, if the terms of the surface structure and inner structure, do not experience the difference as the signage word or phrase. From the point of view of semantic, meaning that appear in any signage is denotative, As of the writing error analysis and accuracy of the choice of words, the conclusion that most of the signage is correct writing and word choice are correct. However, there is a grammatical error and selection of diction, which is found on the signage 2; and there is also a ban on the delivery of a form according to respondents less culturally appropriate.
