Abstract

Oil palm empty fruit bunches are materials used as organic fertilizers that can be applied to oil palm plantations, thereby reducing the use of inorganic fertilizers. Indigofera zollingeriana is an appropriate alternative as an interplant because of its high branch and leaf development. Functions as a ground cover and a supplier of carbon stocks naturally plays a role in water and soil conservation. This study aims to determine the effect of oil palm empty fruit bunches and I. zollingeriana on land improvement to support oil palm growth and production. Variables observed included changes in soil water content, soil microorganism activity, and carbon stock. The results showed that the soil planted with I. zollingeriana and given the empty fruit bunches of oil palm had a higher soil moisture content. The highest soil carbon stock, oil palm carbon stock, and vegetation carbon stock were 81.6 t ha-1, 36.60 t ha-1, and 1.89 t ha-1, respectively. The population and activity of microorganisms varies. The highest total microorganisms were treated with I. zollingeriana and oil palm EFB 105 (10⁵CFU g-1), while the lowest was 60 (10⁵CFU g-1). Planting I. zollingeriana and providing oil palm empty fruit bunches increased groundwater reserves by 36.71%.

Abstract

Forest partnership is one of the five schemes within the Social Forestry policy framework, aiming to improve the welfare of communities living in and around forest areas. Despite having a legal foundation through Ministerial Regulation of Environment and Forestry No. 09 of 2021 and Government Regulation No. 23 of 2021, its implementation in Central Kalimantan remains limited. This study analyzes the potential, challenges, and opportunities of forest partnership using a case study approach in the Rungan Landscape, which spans approximately 517,313 hectares and includes various forestry permits. The analysis reveals that although there is a potential for up to ±60,000 hectares of partnership area using a plantation plasma model, not a single Forest Partnership Agreement (NKK) has been realized. The main obstacles include differences in perception, bureaucratic procedures, and limited facilitation. The study recommends the development of regional policies, increased outreach efforts, and the involvement of universities as facilitators in the formulation and implementation of partnerships.

Abstract

Environmental problems, one of which is caused by human activities and in the form of waste, require special attention in managing, for example, organic solid waste. Organic waste problems are also among the environmental problems, for example in the city of Palangka Raya, which is affected by increasing population growth. Data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia shows that the amount of organic waste produced daily is 0.7 kg/person and 60% of its composition is organic waste. The method of implementing charitable activities is through socialization and demonstration, as well as the application of products to cultivated plants. The phases of the activities carried out include the preparation phase, the biomass crushing phase, the fermentation phase, the product harvesting phase, and the product application phase. The products of the service activities are solid organic fertilizer (compost) and liquid organic fertilizer (POC), i.e. the water produced during the decomposition process. The compost products are characterized by the fact that they are not sharp, brown, and moist. Hopefully, the charitable activities carried out can be easily applied by communities and organizations that need knowledge and implementation of charitable activities related to organic waste processing to alleviate environmental problems, such as the Muhammadiyah Organization of Palangka Raya City.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the interaction between chicken manure fertilizer dosage treatment and variety treatment, as well as their individual factors, on the growth and yield of Ensabi and local segau plants in sandy soil. The research was conducted for 4 months at the Experimental Garden of the University of Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya. This polybag research used a Randomized Block Design (RBD). Factor I: chicken manure fertilizer dosage treatment (A) consisted of 5 levels, namely: A1= 5 t ha-1, A2= 10 t ha-1, A3= 15 t ha-1, A4= 20 t ha-1, and A5= 25 t ha-1, and Factor II: segau/Dayak mustard variety treatment (V), namely: Ensabi segau variety (V1) and local segau variety (V2).The results showed that the interaction between chicken manure fertilizer dosage treatment and local segau variety had a significant effect on the variable of leaf number at 21 days after planting (DAP). The treatment of 25 t ha-1 chicken manure fertilizer with the local segau variety (V2A5) resulted in the highest leaf number, which was 13.33 leaves, but was not significantly different from other treatments, except for the Ensabi variety with 5 t ha-1 chicken manure fertilizer (V1A1) which resulted in 8.00 leaves. The single treatment of chicken manure fertilizer dosage had a significant effect on the variables of leaf number at 21 DAP and shoot weight at 21 DAP. The single treatment of segau variety had a very significant effect on the variables of leaf area at 14 DAP and 21 DAP, and shoot weight at 21 DAP (at harvest). The segau variety treatment did not have a significant effect on plant height at 14 DAP and 21 DAP, leaf number at 14 DAP and 21 DAP, root length, and plant fresh weight. The research results indicate that the local variety is more efficient to be planted on sandy soil with a chicken manure fertilizer dosage of 5 t ha-1. Abstract

This study explores the implementation of urban farming techniques such as vertical gardening, hydroponics, tabulapot, and the cultivation of food plants in sacks and planters in urban areas. With a focus on household food security, sweet potato was selected as the crop due to its ease of growth and adaptability to various environmental conditions. Additionally, sweet potatoes can be successfully cultivated in sacks. The yield includes both tubers and leaves, which can be consumed as healthy vegetables. The primary objective of this research was to analyze the productivity of sweet potatoe s grown in sacks, and to examine the relationship between harvest variables and yield prediction. An experimental and descriptive research methodology was employed. Regression correlation analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between the number of tubers and the total weight per sack, as well as to estimate the potential yield. The results indicated a sweet potato productivity of 1.4 kg per 40 kg sack, with 10 cuttings per sack. A strong positive correlation of 96.77% was found between the number of tubers and the total tuber weight per sack, represented by the regression equation y= 71.069x-878.93. Similarly, a strong positive correlation of 83.05% existed between the number of tubers and the weight of each tuber, suggesting that an increasednumber of tubers did not decrease the weight of individual tubers, as shown by the regression equation y=1.6985x -9.87. If a household has 10 sacks, the potential yield would be 14,000 grams or 14 kg of sweet potatoes, providing a valuable source of healthy vegetables for the family.

Abstract

ABSTRACTDrought stress in crop occurs due to imbalance between demand and supply of water. Crop responses to drought stress depend on their genotypes. Drought stress causes anatomical changes and root damage. The objective of this research was to study the effect of drought stress on anatomy and physiology of soybean root. The research was conducted at Laboratory of Microtechnique, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Bogor Agricultural University in November 2013. A Completely Randomized Design with two factors was used in the research i.e. soybean genotypes (Wilis, PG 57-1, SC 39-1) and PEG (0, 20%) with three replications. The result showed that genotype and PEG affected the size of the cortex, stele, and xylem. PG 57-1 genotype showed the decrease of cortical thickness, diameter of stele and the diameter of xylem, on the other hand, in SC 39-1, there was an increase. Drought stress (PEG 20%) could also cause damage to the root membrane as indicated by the occurrence of lipid peroxides. Wilis and PG 57-1 were tolerant while SC 39-1 was sensitive to drought stress. Keywords:cortex, lipid peroxides, PEG, Schiff’s reagent, xylem
