Abstract

In today's world, where globalization is rapidly increasing, critical thinking, rationality, and tolerance are essential for personal and interpersonal well-being. The study aims to analyze the impact of teaching methods, self-concept, and assessment on students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in economics in senior high school (SHS). The research subjects involved 220 economics students from three SHS. The study used a quantitative survey method with the use of a designed questionnaire and used ordinal logistic regression to find the correlations between variables. The findings suggest that teaching methods, self-concepts, and assessment have a significant impact on students' understanding of economics subjects by promoting higher-order thinking skills. To improve Ghana's educational system and meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, the study also underlines the necessity of HOTS-oriented assessment in classroom instruction. Therefore, the study recommends the use of various instructional strategies, such as open-ended questions and practical problem-solving tasks that encourage students to manipulate unfamiliar or novel situations, rather than relying on recall or restatement of previously taught material. The implication of this study is that curriculum developers should take into consideration a well-structured question in the curriculum that will elicit students' high-order thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need, feasibility, and effectiveness of creative thinking instruments in economic learning. The study procedures were carried out using Research and Development (R&D) method, which comprised various stages, including planning, development, feasibility testing, and instrument implementation. Subsequently, a needs analysis was performed by distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews with economics subject teachers. Content validity testing was also carried out through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with nine experts in economics learning, followed by analysis using Aiken Validity Index (Aiken V-Index). Reliability analysis was performed using KR20 through limited tests on 32 class X students at SMAN 4 Bandung City. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test the feasibility of the question items. To test the instrument's effectiveness, a quasi-experiment with the one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted on 37 students in class X at SMAN 1 Tasikmalaya City. The results showed that 70.8% of economics teachers expressed a demand for the development of creative thinking instruments. Among the 60 items developed, 47 were declared feasible based on CFA results. In addition, a total of 47 items were implemented through the discovery learning model. The results of hypothesis testing showed that the discovery learning model using the developed instrument proved effective in improving students' creative thinking skills in economics.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal and compare the level of human capital in Indonesia, Singapore and Timor Leste using the Human Capital Index (HCI) developed by the World Bank Group. The method used is a literature study with a qualitative approach, analyzing various secondary data sources, including official World Bank reports. This research focuses on the main components of the HCI, namely the quality of education, healthy life expectancy, and future productivity potential. The analysis shows that Singapore has the highest HCI score, followed by Indonesia and Timor Leste. Singapore excels in every indicator, such as child survival probability, expected number of years of schooling, and harmonized test scores. Indonesia, although better than Timor Leste, still has significant gaps in education and health quality compared to Singapore. These findings highlight the importance of increasing investment in the education and health sectors in Indonesia and Timor Leste to improve human capital that can support sustainable economic growth.
