Abstract

The medicines production process in the pharmaceutical industry, especially in herbal medicines, impacts natural resources and environmental pollution. Implementing cleaner production (CP) can be a profitable solution for companies. Stakeholders’ attitudes toward implementing CP are needed to achieve a sustainable pharmaceutical industry. This research was conducted at the Company X, a pharmaceutical industry that produces herbal medicines located in DKI Jakarta Province. This research aims to identify and analyze stakeholder attitudes toward CP as assessed based on knowledge, responses, and practices through a questionnaire. The sample was conducted on 122 stakeholders participating in production and environmental management activities, including the Manager, Supervisor, and Staff. The results show that all stakeholders’ knowledge, responses, and practices have a good average criteria. The most significant number of stakeholders who were respondents were production staff at 37.7%. From the results of this research, it is hoped that all respondents will know the herbal medicine production process and implement CP at Company X.

Abstract

Background: Using sludge oil as an alternative fuel promotes circular economy practices by reducing waste and fossil fuel use, while requiring systematic evaluation and control of occupational health and safety (OHS) risks. Objective: This study aims to evaluate OHS risks associated with sludge oil utilization as an alternative fuel in the cement industry using the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) framework. Methods: This quantitative study was conducted at PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, Cilacap Plant, in February 2026. Data were collected through field observations, structured questionnaires, and company documents from 20 purposively selected respondents involved in sludge oil management. Risk levels were assessed using the HIRARC methodology. Results: A total of 28 potential hazards were identified across five operational stages: waste reception, temporary storage, pre-treatment, kiln utilization, and waste handling and emissions control. The identified hazards were predominantly chemical and physical in nature. Risk assessment results indicated that 21 risks were classified as very high, 4 as high, and 3 as medium. The most critical risks included transportation accidents, fires in buffer vessels, equipment-related injuries, explosions, and fires in the kiln area. These elevated risk levels were driven by the interaction between the flammable properties of sludge oil, suboptimal equipment conditions, workplace environmental factors, and limitations in existing control measures. Current risk controls were largely administrative and reliant on personal protective equipment (PPE), with limited implementation of engineering controls and hazard elimination strategies. Conclusion: Strengthening engineering and systemic controls is essential to ensure safe, effective, and sustainable sludge oil utilization in the cement industry.

Abstract

The Kapuas River in Pontianak City plays a vital role as a source of raw water for drinking water supply and various other needs. However, the quality of the river water is under increasing pressure due to the activities of surrounding communities. A sustainable management strategy is therefore necessary to maintain both water quality and availability, for human consumption as well as ecosystem sustainability. This study employed a mixed-methods approach encompassing descriptive analysis, regression analysis, and a SWOT framework. The findings indicate that the water quality of the Kapuas River is generally still within the applicable quality standards. Communities residing along the river generally collect and treat water prior to use, representing a form of adaptive response to prevailing water quality conditions. The analysis further reveals that fluctuations in basic drinking water tariffs are influenced by the rate of water loss, or Non-Revenue Water (NRW), which constitutes one of the primary challenges in the provision of clean water services. Based on the SWOT analysis, the recommended sustainable management strategy falls within the WO (Weakness–Opportunity) quadrant, signaling the need for increased funding, enhanced resource capacity, and stronger policy support to reinforce the water management system. Furthermore, regular water quality monitoring and consistent follow-up measures are essential steps to ensure that the Kapuas River remains a safe and reliable source of water for the population of Pontianak City.

Abstract

Black Soldier Fly (BSF) (Hermetia illucens) larvae oil has attracted increasing attention as a sustainable alternative lipid source due to its high fatty acid content, particularly lauric acid, and its potential applications across various sectors. This study aims to systematically review the current state of research on BSF larvae oil. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Relevant articles were retrieved from Scopus and ScienceDirect databases. Results showed that research on BSF larvae oil has grown substantially in recent years, with the majority of studies focusing on animal nutrition, aquaculture, growth performance, lipid metabolism, and feed efficiency. Bibliometric analysis revealed five major research clusters covering feed applications, fatty acid composition, growth performance, physiological responses, and alternative applications such as biodiesel. Overlay visualization showed a recent shift from basic feed utilization studies toward investigations of gut microbiota, lipid metabolism, and health-related effects. Research on industrial applications, cosmetic products, household cleaning products, and commercialization aspects remains limited.
