Abstract

This research investigates the underlying factors that shape the interest of students from the 2024 cohort in enrolling in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Education Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Padang. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative methodology, data were gathered through a structured, closed-ended questionnaire administered to the entire cohort, which consisted of 89 students. The analysis reveals that the overall level of student interest is categorized as high, with a notable percentage of 55%. Several key variables were identified as influential: (1) self-awareness factors encompassing physical capabilities, intellectual aptitude, intrinsic motivation, and innate talent were rated in the very high category at 56%; (2) familial influences such as the provision of information, emotional support, and parenting styles also ranked very high at 46%; (3) school-related elements including the accessibility of school information systems, teacher roles, peer dynamics, and hands on learning experiences were classified in the high category with 44%; and (4) social media engagement specifically the frequency of use and the quality of educational content was likewise in the high category, scoring 48%. These findings underscore the multifaceted nature of student decision-making, with self-awareness emerging as the most prominent determinant in shaping academic program choices. The study highlights the need for educational institutions to consider these interrelated dimensions when developing recruitment strategies and academic guidance frameworks.

Abstract

Islamic law regarding the inheritance distribution for adopted children is an important legal knowledge for Muslim families. This includes determining who will be the heirs, the share of each heir, and identifying the estate and inheritance of the deceased. An adopted child can bequeath a portion of their adoptive parents' estate, but not more than three-quarters of their wealth, according to Islamic law. This writing uses normative legal research. The Constitution of Islamic Law does not recognize the position of an adopted child concerning the inheritance of the adoptive parents' assets because there is no blood relationship between the adopted child and the adoptive parents. In Islamic law, the religious court that establishes the adoption of a child does not sever the child's lineage connection with their biological parents. Adopted children are not considered biological children and do not have the same rights and responsibilities as biological children.

Abstract

A well-prepared abstract allows readers to quickly and accurately identify the basic content of a  Local MSMEs make a significant contribution to the regional economy; however, the diversity of products offered often creates difficulties for consumers in making purchasing decisions. Therefore, this study utilizes Python-based data analysis as an approach to generate product recommendations that can support the improvement of MSMEs’ marketing strategy effectiveness. This research employs a data mining method by applying the Apriori algorithm, supported by the pandas and mlxtend libraries, to analyze consumer purchasing patterns. The data processing results indicate an association between rice and cooking oil products, where rice purchases are followed by cooking oil purchases at a rate of 60%, while cooking oil purchases are followed by rice purchases at a rate of 75%. These purchasing association patterns serve as the basis for developing product recommendations, enabling MSMEs to manage inventory more optimally and design more targeted marketing strategies.

Abstract

Savonius wind turbines are a type of vertical axis wind turbines that work based on the principle of drag force. The way this turbine works begins with a gust of wind that hits the turbine blades which are generally semi-cylindrical or resemble the letter "U". When the wind blows, the side of the blade facing directly in the direction of the wind will receive a greater thrust, while the side of the blade facing the wind will receive a smaller thrust, resulting in a difference in force that causes the turbine to rotate. This study aims to analyze the performance of savonius wind turbines based on the value of power coefficient (Cp) and torque coefficient (Ct) at wind speed variations. The method used in this study is a numerical method with a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach. Simulations were carried out at wind speed variations of 3 m/s, 5 m/s, and 7 m/s to determine the effect of changes in wind speed on the flow characteristics and performance of the turbine. The simulation results showed that the value of the power coefficient (Cp) and the torque coefficient (Ct) were in the range of 0.140 to 0.157. This value changes as the wind speed increases, which shows that the variation in wind speed affects the performance of the savonius wind turbine. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Savonius wind turbine has good potential to be used in areas with low to medium wind speeds.

Abstract

PT PLN IP Teluk Sirih is a coal-fired steam power plant that supplies electricity to the West Sumatra region. In steam power plants, the High Pressure Heater (HPH) functions as a heat exchanger that preheats feedwater before entering the boiler by utilizing extraction steam from  turbine. Damage or performance degradation of the HPH can reduce its effectiveness and lifespan, decrease feedwater temperature, increase the required heating in  boiler, raise fuel consumption, and ultimately lower the overall efficiency of the power plant cycle. Therefore, this study aims to determine the efficiency of HPH at PT PLN IP Teluk Sirih Unit 2 in order to support proper maintenance planning and reduce operational costs. The research employs a quantitative method with a descriptive–analytical approach using actual operational data obtained from the Distributed Control System (DCS) of PLTU Teluk Sirih Unit 2. The efficiency of HPH is calculated by comparing the heat released by the steam  and the heat absorbed by the feedwater  or HPH 1 and HPH 2. The variables used include the feedwater inlet temperatures of 192.9 °C for HPH 1 and 141.5 °C for HPH 2. The results show that the efficiency of HPH 1 is 91.26%, while the efficiency of HPH 2 is 88.11%. For HPH 1,  and  are 49,552,500 kJ/h and 54,297,300 kJ/h, respectively, whereas for HPH 2,  and  are 71,613,300 kJ/h and 81,288,480 kJ/h. These results indicate that a higher inlet temperature leads to a greater ratio between  and  , and consequently to a higher HPH efficiency.
