Abstract

Abstract

Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) is a major pest affecting various horticultural commodities and is challenging to control due to its high adaptability, rapid reproduction, and resistance to multiple chemical insecticides. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of bioinsecticides and chemical insecticides on B. tabaci mortality. The research was conducted in the laboratory and greenhouse of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) in September 2025, using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with seven treatments and three replications. The seven treatments included Wood Vinegar, Paraffin Oil, Canola Oil, Neem Oil, Metarhizium anisopliae, Abamectin 1.8 EC, Diafenthiuron 250 SC, and water as the control. Applications were performed in the laboratory using the dipping method and in the greenhouse using the spraying method, with 30 B. tabaci nymphs per treatment and replication. Mortality was recorded at 24, 48, and 72 hours post-application. Laboratory results showed mortality rates of 24.44% for Wood Vinegar, 62.22% for Paraffin Oil, 71.11% for Canola Oil, 74.44% for Neem Oil, 70.00% for M. anisopliae, 38.89% for Abamectin, and 84.44% for Diafenthiuron. In the greenhouse, mortality rates were 16.67% for Wood Vinegar, 60.00% for Paraffin Oil, 67.78% for Canola Oil, 70.00% for Neem Oil, 62.22% for M. anisopliae, 30.00% for Abamectin, and 81.11% for Diafenthiuron 250 SC. Overall, among the chemical insecticides, Diafenthiuron exhibited the highest mortality and was the most effective treatment. Among the bioinsecticides, Neem Oil achieved the highest mortality. Based on these results, Neem Oil shows potential as a more environmentally friendly alternative control agent, while Diafenthiuron is suitable for use under conditions of high pest infestation.

Abstract

The use of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) is one of the strategies for strengthening local resource-based health that can support family herbal medicine independence. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and skills in cultivating and utilizing TOGA as an alternative for addressing minor health complaints. The program was implemented in Pondok Bungur Village, Rawang Panca Arga District, Asahan Regency. The activity methods included interactive counseling, planting demonstrations, simple processing practices, and mentoring. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the benefits, cultivation techniques, and safe and sustainable use of TOGA. This activity proved effective in promoting community health literacy and strengthening family independence in the use of local plant-based herbal medicine.

Abstract

The production center for lowland rice in Labuhanbatu Regency in the last three years, precisely in Panai Tengah District, North Sumatra Province, has decreased production since 2018. One of the causes is a decrease in production because the nutrient content in the soil has decreased and added by fertilizer application by farmers. Lowland rice is still common due to limited data on land resources. This study aims to evaluate the land through the identification of classes, distribution and status of soil pH and C-Organic nutrients as well as organic matter in agricultural land in Central Panai District, and to determine the level of soil damage in each Land Mapping Unit. This research was carried out in Central Panai District with elevation. place 11 meters above sea level. Soil analysis was carried out in the integrated science laboratory of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Labuhanbatu University from January 2021 to March 2021, while the method in this study was a semi-detailed grid survey with the density of observation of 1 sample per 250 meters. Soil pH measurements used the pH-H2O and C-organic methods of soil using the Walkley and Black method. Furthermore, the results of the analysis of nutrient rainfed lowland soils are interpreted into a nutrient status map. The results showed that the pH content of rainfed lowland soil in Panai Tengah District, Labuhanbatu Regency was classified as very acidic and slightly acidic, while based on the soil nutrient status, namely C-organic and organic matter in the low category, so as to increase the productivity of rainfed lowland soil with soil organic matter content.up to 3% required organic fertilizer in the Central Panai District, Labuhanbatu Regency.

Abstract

Aquaponics is an environmentally friendly agricultural alternative that integrates fish farming and plant cultivation within a single ecosystem. This concept is particularly suitable for household-scale application, as it enhances the use of home yards and supports family food security. This Muhammadiyah Community Partnership Program aimed to: (1) improve the knowledge and skills of members of Aisyiyah Branch Medan Perjuangan in constructing aquaponic systems, and (2) raise awareness of the importance of environmentally based sustainable agriculture. The training was conducted using a participatory approach involving socialization, hands-on practice, and active discussion. The program successfully increased participants' awareness and motivation to utilize their home yards productively. Participants demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the activity, with hopes that similar training initiatives could be extended and developed in other communities.
