Abstract

Women's representation in Indonesian politics is an important indicator of the quality of democracy and gender equality. Although an affirmative policy of 30% female participation in legislative candidate lists has been implemented, the level of women's electability remains low. This article examines the determinants of women's electability in the 2024–2029 Jambi Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) elections using Casey's theory of political capital, which includes institutional, social, cultural, economic, and symbolic capital. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method to understand the factors that influence women's political success at the local level. The results show that of the 732 legislative candidates for the Jambi Provincial DPRD, 247 or 33.74% were women, but only seven (12.72%) were successfully elected. This phenomenon reveals a gap between symbolic representation and substantive representation. An analysis of political modalities shows that women who were successfully elected generally possessed a strong combination of capital—institutional support from parties (institutional capital), extensive social networks (social capital), credibility and education (cultural capital), financial capabilities s (economic capital), and moral legitimacy and public reputation (symbolic capital). These findings confirm that women's political success is not only determined by affirmative regulations, but also by the ability of female actors to strategically manage and convert various forms of political capital. This article provides empirical and theoretical contributions to strengthening a more gender-responsive inclusive democracy.

Abstract

The struggle of women to occupy parliamentary seats in Jambi City in the 2024 elections is still faced with obstacles such as discrimination and patriarchal culture. Although the 1945 Constitution does not distinguish between men and women, women's representation in the legislature is still low. Efforts such as the 30% quota for women's representation in political parties are expected to increase women's representation. The presence of women in parliament is considered valuable in creating political dynamics and voicing the interests of the people. Factors such as political and social change, personal experience, policy objectives, perceptions of representation, and family support can motivate women to engage in politics. Although there are still challenges, efforts to increase women's representation in politics remain a hope.

Abstract

This study examines M. Syukur’s political communication strategies and their impact on his electability in the 2024 Merangin Regional Election. In an era of increasing demands for transparency, local issue responsiveness, and digital engagement, effective communication plays a key role in electoral success. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research draws on field observations, in-depth interviews, and content analysis of campaign materials, media coverage, and social media activity. The analysis is guided by political communication theory, agenda-setting, and electability models. The findings reveal that M. Syukur applied a hybrid communication strategy combining a strong digital presence—particularly on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok—with populist local narratives. His messaging emphasized accessibility, religious-cultural values, and economic empowerment, appealing to rural communities and young voters. Emotional and visual framing helped construct his image as a “candidate of the people,” while grassroots engagement strengthened voter trust. These strategies significantly influenced public perception and voter support across diverse demographics. The study highlights that multi-channel, culturally sensitive communication can enhance candidate visibility, credibility, and electability in local democratic contexts

Abstract

Waste is an environmental issue that always remains a major concern, especially in urban areas, including the city of Jambi. Data from the Jambi City Environmental Agency shows that the amount of waste generated per day in Jambi City is 423.45 tons, with the second-highest estimated waste generation located in the Paal Merah District, amounting to 75 tons per day. The highest estimated waste generation is in the Eka Jaya Sub-district, amounting to 22 tons per day. The Jambi City Environmental Agency, PT. PLN UPDK Jambi, and the community in the Eka Jaya Sub-district, Paal Merah District, then collaborated to implement a waste management program at the TPS3R KSM Makmur Jaya. The purpose of this research is to examine how the process of collaborative governance in the waste management program at TPS3R KSM Makmur Jaya, Paal Merah District, is conducted. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques are conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this research indicate that collaborative governance in waste management at TPS3R KSM Makmur Jaya is already underway and shows positive achievements in the waste management development process. This can be seen with the presence of processed waste products in the form of compost. However, there are challenges in achieving optimal self-reliance in managing TPS3R. This becomes a barrier to running the program efficiently.

Abstract

Abstract

In the era of modern democracy, voting behavior serves as an important indicator of citizens’ political awareness and a key factor influencing electoral outcomes. This study aims to identify the political behavior of the people of Jambi City based on generational typologies, namely Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Z, and to examine their influence on voting behavior in the 2024 Presidential Election. Employing a qualitative research method, data were collected through interviews with informants from Generation X (1965–1980), Generation Y (1981–1996), and Generation Z (1997–2012) in Jambi City. The data were analyzed qualitatively using voting behavior theory. The findings reveal that voting behavior among the people of Jambi is shaped by sociological, psychological, and rational determinants. Differences in generational characteristics also contribute to variations in voting patterns. Generation X, which tends to be more conservative and oriented toward traditional values, places greater emphasis on economic issues and social welfare in making political choices. Generation Y, characterized by a greater openness to change, tends to consider values such as social justice and equality. Meanwhile, Generation Z, which is closely connected to technology and innovation, is more influenced by global issues and technological developments. Nevertheless, voting behavior is not solely determined by generational characteristics, as it is also shaped by various sociological, psychological, and rational factors. This study not only describes the voting behavior of the people of Jambi but also provides a reflective analysis of the dynamics of political behavior in the 2024 Presidential Election.
