Abstract

.The process of independence in early childhood is crucial for their development, especially in Kindergarten (TK) environments. However, the phenomenon of sibling rivalry often affects this development. This study aims to examine the relationship between sibling rivalry and independence development in early childhood at TK Islam Sultan Agung 4 Semarang. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, and a sample was taken using total sampling techniques involving 74 respondents. Instruments were used to measure sibling rivalry and independence development. Data analysis was performed through univariate and bivariate analysis with Somers' d test. The results showed that the majority of respondents were male (42 people) and most were 5 years old. In addition, 61 respondents experienced high levels of sibling rivalry, while 44 respondents showed low levels of independence. Bivariate testing produced a ρ-Value of 0.413, indicating no significant relationship between sibling rivalry and independence development, with an r-value of -0.119 indicating a very weak relationship. These findings indicate that other factors, such as limited sampling, parental upbringing patterns, socio-economic conditions, and environmental influences, may also influence the results. Therefore, further research with a larger sample and considering external factors is recommended to obtain more comprehensive results.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) increases the permeability of capillary walls, impacting the decrease in plasma volume and consequently reducing the platelet count. Consumption of red guava and date palm honey can increase platelets in DHF patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of red guava and date palm honey consumption on platelet count in children with DHF. This quasi-experimental study used a non-equivalent parallel group design. A total of 30 DHF patients at RS Bhakti Asih Brebes were selected using purposive sampling technique and divided into three groups: group A (red guava juice), group B (date palm honey), and group C (red guava juice and date palm honey). Platelet counts were obtained from laboratory results. Analysis was performed using the Anova test for normally and heterogeneously distributed data. Post hoc tests were conducted to determine the most effective treatment among the three groups. There was a significant difference in the mean platelet count before and after treatment in group A (-11.6±12.204; p = 0.015), group B (-16.2±16.033; p = 0.011), and group C (-27.5±22.741; p = 0.004). There was a significant difference between the three treatment groups on platelet count in children with DHF (p = 0.045). Date palm honey administration had the best effectiveness in increasing the mean platelet count compared to other groups. Pre-clinical testing-based research needs to be considered to determine the more accurate effect of the combination of red guava juice and date palm honey.

Abstract

Phlebitis is one of the most common complications that occur as a result of intravenous infusion, especially in pediatric patients. This condition is characterized by inflammation of the vein wall, which can cause pain, redness, and swelling around the puncture site. The high incidence of phlebitis in children requires serious attention because it can prolong hospitalization, increase healthcare costs, and reduce the overall quality of care. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with the occurrence of phlebitis in pediatric patients at RSUI Harapan Anda, Tegal City. This research employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 46 pediatric patients undergoing intravenous therapy in the inpatient ward, selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was an observation sheet that included independent variables such as age, chronic illness, duration of infusion, infusion site, type of infusion fluid, and nurses’ skills. The dependent variable was the incidence of phlebitis. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test to determine the relationships between variables. The results showed that most patients were in the toddler age group (1–3 years), had chronic illnesses, underwent infusion for more than 72 hours, had high-risk puncture sites, used hypotonic fluids, and were treated by nurses with insufficient skills. Statistical analysis revealed significant associations between all independent variables and the occurrence of phlebitis. These findings highlight the importance of improving nurses’ competence through continuous training, strict monitoring of infusion duration and fluid type, as well as special attention to high-risk pediatric patients. Such efforts are expected to reduce the incidence of phlebitis and improve the quality of nursing care in hospitals.

Abstract

Pruritus, or itching, varies in duration, location, and severity, and can occur in specific areas or across the entire body surface. Common pharmacological treatments include antihistamines, emollients, topical capsaicin, opioid antagonists, gabapentin, immunomodulators, immunosuppressants, tacrolimus ointment, and oral activated charcoal. Itching in patients undergoing hemodialysis is a common problem that significantly impacts patient comfort, making effective management necessary. Olive oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties, which may help alleviate pruritus. This study aims to examine the effect of olive oil administration on the reduction of pruritus scores in hemodialysis patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. The study used a quantitative design with a quasi-experimental pre-post two-group comparison model. The sample consisted of 42 hemodialysis patients divided into two groups: the intervention group, which received olive oil and antihistamine, and the control group, which only received antihistamine. The results showed that the average pruritus score before treatment in the intervention group was 5.625, and after administration of olive oil + antihistamine, it decreased to 3.375. Statistical analysis using the Paired Samples Test showed a significant effect of olive oil + antihistamine administration on pruritus reduction (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant difference in effectiveness between the intervention group (olive oil + antihistamine) and the control group (antihistamine only), with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. In conclusion, the administration of olive oil combined with antihistamines is more effective than antihistamine alone in reducing pruritus scores in hemodialysis patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang.

Abstract

Breast milk is the best nutrition for babies because it contains complete nutrients and antibodies that support immunity and optimal growth and development. However, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia is still low, even though its benefits have been proven to reduce the risk of stunting, obesity, and infectious diseases. Mothers' lack of knowledge about lactation management is one of the inhibiting factors, so educational efforts are needed to improve mothers' attitudes towards breastfeeding and support their babies' health. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge about lactation management and mothers' attitudes towards breastfeeding at Dr. H Soewondo Kendal Hospital. This study used a quantitative research design with a descriptive correlation and cross-sectional approach. The number of respondents was 38 mothers selected using purposive sampling. The data collection instruments were questionnaires on knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding (15 items) and attitudes towards breastfeeding (16 items). Data analysis was performed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The results of the study showed that most of the breastfeeding mothers were aged 20-35 years (30 respondents), most of them had a high school/vocational school education (25 respondents or 65.8%), and most of them were housewives (21 respondents or 55.3%). Knowledge about lactation management was mostly adequate among 25 respondents (65.8%), and good among 13 respondents (34.2%). Attitudes toward breastfeeding were mostly adequate and good among 19 respondents (50.0%) each. There was a relationship between knowledge about lactation management and mothers' attitudes towards breastfeeding at Dr. H Soewondo Kendal Hospital with a p-value of 0.000. The Spearman correlation test also showed a relationship strength value (rho value) of 0.721, which means that there is a positive relationship: the better the level of knowledge about lactation management, the better the mothers' attitudes towards breastfeeding. It is recommended that nurses be more active in providing comprehensive and structured education on lactation management, not only limited to basic breastfeeding theory, but also covering practical skills, breastfeeding time management, and techniques for dealing with lactation problems commonly experienced by breastfeeding mothers.
