Abstract

West Kalimantan Province, crossed by the equator, has a tropical climate characterized by almost year-round rainfall and relatively high average air temperatures. This condition is also accompanied by the emergence of numerous hotspots. These two climate characteristics appear contradictory, likely related to rainfall distribution patterns in the region. The purpose of this study is to analyze rainfall potential in West Kalimantan Province based on atmospheric and ocean dynamics. The data used include satellite imagery and reanalysis of each parameter: sea level pressure, wind, sea surface temperature, and altitude in 2022-2023. The analysis method is applied descriptively through plot interpretation to illustrate the data distribution and the relationships between parameters. Rainfall distribution in West Kalimantan Province is influenced by global climate dynamics and topographic conditions. In 2022, with La Nina and the southwest monsoon, rainfall was high and evenly distributed, while in 2023, with El Nino and the east monsoon, rainfall decreased, especially on the coast. The mountainous areas still receive rainfall throughout the year, although the intensity is reduced.

Abstract

Manufacturing industry plays significant role in the Indonesian economy. However, this sector was the largest contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2022, reaching 38% of total emissions released by all sectors. The purposes of this study are to identify characteristics and trends of economic activity and GHG emissions from fuel consumption across 24 manufacturing subsectors, and to analyze the effect of some economic variables on GHG emissions of the manufacturing industry in Indonesia. Economic variables from 2012-2022, including machinery maintenance intensity, labor intensity, resource-use intensity, value-added, and GHG intensity, were analyzed using descriptive statistics and fixed-effect model panel regression. The results show that labor intensity in the manufacturing subsector tends to decline, while resource use intensity and value-added are increasing. Meanwhile, machinery maintenance intensity shows considerable variation without consistent concentration in particular subsectors. Panel data regression indicates that maintenance intensity and labor intensity have significant positive effect on GHG intensity, while resource-use intensity and value-added have significant negative effect. Based on these results, interventions on economic variables can influence GHG emission levels. This study recommends fiscal policy interventions, such as subsidies for environmentally friendly equipment and incentives for green industries, to strengthen the performance of environmentally friendly industries.

Abstract

Mangrove forests are vital for maintaining coastal ecosystem balance and mitigating climate change through blue carbon storage. This study present a novel integration of blue carbon economic valuation and community-Based mangrove Management (CBMM) assessment at the village scale, using mojo village, Indonesia as a case study. Mojo village was chosen as the research location because of the carbon potential that Mojo village has to be developed using the CBMM concept. A mixed-method approach combined secondary data analysis of mangrove carbon stocks with semi-structured interviews involving key members of the Pelita Bahari community group. The Mojo Village mangrove ecosystem demonstrated substantial blue carbon value, estimated between IDR 34.66 million and IDR 199.78 million per hectare under different carbon market scenarios, indicating substantial mitigation and financial potential. CBMM analysis reveals that strong local participation and institutional legitimacy support conservation outcomes; however, limited technical capacity, external dependence, and weak monitoring constrain readiness for carbon market participation. Analytically, the findings demonstrate that carbon valuation alone is insufficient without parallel governance strengthening. Community-based mangrove management supports the sustainability of coastal ecosystems and contributes to community welfare through the economic valorization of blue carbon. Beyond local benefits, this study contributes to the global blue carbon discourse by illustrating how village-level community management can inform scalable, socially inclusive pathways for integrating mangroves into national climate strategies, carbon markets, and international mitigation frameworks under the Paris Agreement.
