Abstract

Appropriate fertilization recommendations are needed to maximize the production of oil palm plants on land that has been used for a long time. This study aimed to determine the status of soil fertility during the oil palm replanting period in Kemang Manis Village, Muara Papalik Sub-district, West Tanjung Jabung Regency, and determine fertilization recommendations according to the needs of oil palm plants based on soil fertility. This study used a survey method; soil samples taken were disturbed soil samples, and sampling was carried out at two depths, namely 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm. Determination of sampling points using stratified random sampling method based on homogeneous land units that were processed based on soil type and slope in the research location. The collected soil samples were analyzed for H, CEC, BS, organic C, P2O5, K2O, and total N. The results showed low fertility status during the oil palm replanting period in the research location. Observations of the soil profile also showed that the O horizon was thin. Fertilization recommendations that must be made to improve soil fertility include adding dolomite fertilizer to increase soil pH value and increasing the availability of N, P, and K elements in the form of Urea, SP36, and KCl. To increase the content of organic materials in the soil, applying oil palm empty fruit bunches can also improve the soil's physical, chemical, and biological properties.

Abstract

Fruit and vegetable peels are a common type of organic waste generated in households. Due to their high water content, they decompose naturally. However, if left unattended, these peels undergo anaerobic bacterial decomposition, leading to unpleasant odors and detrimental environmental impacts. Fruit and vegetable peels have the potential to be transformed into valuable resources. One such method is by converting them into eco-enzyme. Eco-enzyme is a complex organic solution produced through the fermentation of fresh fruit and vegetable peels, brown sugar, and water. The resulting liquid is typically dark brown with a characteristically fresh, sour aroma. In RT 24, Simpang Rimbo, Jambi City, many housewives were unaware of the benefits of processing fruit and vegetable peels and lacked understanding of the distinction between organic and inorganic waste. This community service project aimed to reduce organic waste and its associated air pollution by promoting the production of eco-enzyme from fruit and vegetable peels. The project involved several stages: preparation, pretest, socialization, training, and posttest. The results indicated a high level of enthusiasm among participants and a significant improvement in their knowledge of organic waste management after the training

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan informasi pengaruh pemberian biochar tempurung kelapa terhadap sifat kimia Ultisol dan pengaruhnya terhadap tanaman kedelai. Penelitian dilakukan di Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Jambi Desa Mendalo Darat dengan Ordo tanah Ultisol. Analisis tanah dilakukan di Laboratorium Ilmu Tanah Balai Penelitian Kacang dan Aneka umbi Malang. Penelitian dilakukan selama enam bulan. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) pada petak percobaan. Perlakuan yang dicobakan terdiri dari b0 (kontrol ), b1(biochar tempurung kelapa 5 t) /ha), b2(biochar tempurung kelapa 10t/ha ), b3(biochar tempurung kelapa 15 t/ha), b4 (biochar tempurung kelapa 20 t/ha). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwapemberian biochar mampu meningkatkan hara yaitu N, P, K dan meningkatkan Kapsitas Tukar Kation (KTK) serta bahan organik tanah. Biochar tempurung kelapa mampu meningkatkan porositas tanah dan menurunkan BV tanah, pemberian biochar meningkatkan hasil kedelai sekitar 32% dibandingkan dengan tanpa pemberian biochar dan pemberian dosis biochar sebesar 20 t/ha masih meningkatkan semua parameter pengamatan termasuk hasil kedelai.

Abstract

Ultisol is generally characterized by a high clay content in the argillic horizon, easy compaction, slow permeability, and unstable aggregates, resulting in low total porosity. Organic soil amendments such as compost and biochar can be used to improve soil organic matter, aggregate stability, and other physical properties of Ultisol. A field experiment was conducted using a randomized block design to assess the potential effects of Leucaena compost (LC) and coconut shell biochar (CB) on the physical properties of Ultisol and maize yield. The treatments included combinations of compost (0, 5, and 10 t/ha), biochar (0, 5, and 10 t/ha), and inorganic fertilizer (50% and 100% of the recommended dose). The results showed that the application of Leucaena compost and coconut shell biochar improved the physical properties of the soil. Compost and/or biochar applications at 10 t/ha enhanced soil organic matter, total porosity, aggregate formation, aggregate stability, pore size distribution, and reduced soil bulk density, improving maize growth and yield.

Abstract

ABSTRACT เว็บสล็อต  Oil palm cultivation is increasingly carried out on suboptimal land, such as Ultisols. Application of ameliorant such as biochar and compost may be chosen as an alternative to solve the problem occurred on this sub optimal soil. This study aims to determine the optimal dosage of a mixture of oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) biochar, poultry manure compost, and Rock Phosphate (RP) to enhance soil quality and support the growth of one-year-old oil palm plants. The study was conducted slot maxwin over six months in a one-year-old oil palm plantation located in Panca Mulya Village. A randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was employed with the aplication of biochar, compost, and rock phosphate (RP = Togo Rock Phosphate, 33.5% P₂O₅) in the following treatments: P0 = control (no treatment); P1 = biochar 20 tons.ha-1 + RP 200 kg.ha-1; P2 = biochar 10 tons/ha + compost 10 tons.ha-1 + RP 200 kg.ha-1; P3 = compost 20 tons.ha-1 + RP 200 kg.ha-1; P4 = biochar 20 tons.ha-1 +compost 10 tons.ha-1 + RP 200 kg.ha-1; P5= biochar 10 tons.ha-1 + compost 20 tons.ha-1 + RP 200 kg.ha-1. Results indicated that the application of biochar, compost, and RP, whether individually or in combination, enhanced oil palm growth compared to the control. The application of biochar and compost improved soil physical properties, increased soil organic matter content, total pore space, available water content, reduced bulk density, soil penetration resistance, and promoted oil palm growth. The best treatment was found to be 10 tons.ha-1 biochar + 20 tons.ha-1 compost + 200 kg.ha-1 RP. Keywords: ameliorant, empty fruit bunch, soil quality

Abstract

Limbah industri sawmill yang paling dominan ialah serbuk gergaji. Salah teknologi alternatif untuk memanfaatkan limbah biomassa ini arang atau biochar dan dapat digunakan secara langsung sebagai pembenah tanah. Lahan yang menjadi sentra budidaya jagung manis di Desa Rengas Bandung Kabupaten Muaro Jambi, adalah lahan marginal dengan kualitas kesuburan tanah rendah. Salah satu penyebab rendahnya kualitas kesuburan tanahnya adalah kandungan bahan organik atau humus yang rendah di dalam tanah. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah kualitas kesuburan tanah yang rendah tersebut adalah memberikan bahan organik ke dalam tanah. Penggunaaan biochar serbuk gergaji menjadi solusi karena terdapat potensi bahan serbuk gergaji hasil limbah sawmill yang beroperasi di Desa Rengas Bandung dan desa terdekat.  Menggunakan biochar sebagai amelioran organik yang fungsinya bertahan lama di dalam tanah atau organik stabil menjadi teknologi dan penggelolaan jangka panjang kandungan bahan organik tanah. Tujuan dari program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah agar limbah industri perkayuan atau sawmill berupa serbuk gergaji dan residu tanaman hasil panen jagung manis berupa batang dan akar dapat dibuat jadi biochar dan sekaligus dapat digunakan sebagai bahan yang dapat memperbaiki kualitas fisika dan kimia tanah dari lahan budidaya sendiri. Hasil yang dicapai dari program pengabdian adalah petani mengakui mendapat pengetahuan baru tentang biochar dan sudah mampu membuat biochar dari limbah pertanian dengan alat drum pirolisator. Kelompok mitra pengabdian sedang dalam proses melaksanakan demplot pemanfaatan biochar serbu gergaji dalam budidaya jagung manis.

Abstract

Ultisol has a texture with a high clay content and a medium to high bulk density so it is susceptible to increasing soil compaction. High soil compaction indicates physical soil problems and inhibits plant growth. The application of soil amendments such as biochar and mycorrhiza can help be help improve soil compaction and support corn growth. This study aimed to examine the potential of biochar from palm fronds and mycorrhiza in improving Ultisol compaction and increasing corn yield. The research was conducted by using a randomized factorial design with 2 factors. The first factor was, oil palm frond biochar with 3 levels, no biochar (B0), biochar 5 tons.ha-1 (B5), and biochar 10 tons.ha-1 (B10). The second factor was mycorrhiza with 3 doses, without mycorrhiza (M0), mycorrhiza 10 grams (M10), and mycorrhiza 20 grams (M20). The results showed that the combination of oil palm frond biochar and mycorrhiza did not show an interaction in improving soil density, but had a significant effect on organic matter, plant height, and yield of maize plants. The application of biochar and mycorrhiza alone was able to improve the bulk density, soil porosity, penetration resistance and soil moisture content. The combination of 10 tons.ha-1 biochar and 20 grams mycorrhiza increased soil organic matter, plant height, and corn yield 66.74%, 24.77%, and 30.26%, repectively compared to the control. Thus, the combined application of oil palm frond biochar at 10 tons.ha-1 and mycorrhiza at 20 grams has the potential to improve soil organic matter content and increase corn yield.

Abstract

Mengacu pada data yang dikeluarkan Global Hunger Index (GHI), disebutkan bahwa indeks kelaparan masyarakat Indonesia ialah sebagai yang tertinggi ketiga di Asia Tenggara pada 2023. Salah satu upaya untuk menurunkan bahkan menghapus indeks kelaparan di Indonesia, melalui kemandirian pangan. Desa Ibru merupakan salah satu wilayah yang menjadi Desa Mitra Perguruan Tinggi menuju mandiri pangan. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah pemberdayaan masyarakat dalam optimalisasi pemanfaatan lahan pekarangan untuk meningkatkan pendapatan keluarga. Kegiatan PPM ini dilaksanakan selama 6 bulan mulai bulan Juli 2023 hinggga November 2023, di Desa Ibru Kecamatan Mestong Kabupaten Muaro Jambi. Kegiatan dimulai dengan metode penyuluhan, intervensi teknologi, pelatihan, pendampingan dan percontohan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa optimalisasi lahan pekarangan berbasis IPTEK yang dilakukan, meningkatkan pengetahuan, sudut pandang dan keterampilan peserta pelatihan, dimana keberhasilan penyuluhan berkategori sangat baik, berarti semua materi penyuluhan dan pelatihan dapat dipahami oleh kelompok Pemuda Tani Desa Ibru Kabupaten Muaro Jambi, dengan tingkat partisipasi msyarakat lebih dari 80%. Budidaya sayuran di lahan pekarangan berbasis POC bonggol pisang dan air beras meningkatkan produksi sayuran, serta pendapatan petani dengan B/C 3,97, sehingga upaya pendampingan tersebut harus terus ditingkatkan.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia is an agrarian country with very large agricultural products. In addition, agricultural by-products are also produced that are largely unutilized, such as rubber fruit shells and cinnamon bark scrap waste. The two by-products have the potential to be used as alternative biomass fuels, one of which is charcoal briquettes. The use of charcoal briquettes tends to produce a pungent smell. Therefore, cinnamon bark powder can be used to reduce the pungent smell. This has the potential to change the aroma of conventional charcoal briquettes. But this related research is still very limited. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the influence of cinnamon bark powder composition on the characteristics of rubber seed shell charcoal briquettes. Charcoal briquettes from rubber seed shell charcoal material CK (100%) and added cinnamon bark powder CK:KM (80%:20%) were made with the addition of tapioca glue and prepared 5 times. Charcoal briquettes are then tested for their characteristics, including: 1. water content, 2. density, 3. ash content, 4. volatile matter content, 5. fixed carbon content, 6. caloric value, 7. compressive strength, and 8. burning rate. The analysis results show that CK (100%) charcoal briquettes have the characteristics of briquettes with low water content, high density, high ash content, high volatile matter content, low fixed carbon content, low calorific value, high compressive strength and high burning rate compared to CK:KM (80%:20%). Based on the values of these parameters, charcoal briquettes CK:KM (80%:20%) have better quality than CK (100%) on 4 parameters (ash content, volatile matter content, fixed carbon content, caloric value and burning rate).   Keywords: charcoal briquettes, rubber seed shell, characteristics, cinnamon bark powder   ABSTRAK Indonesia merupakan negara agraris dengan hasil pertanian sangat besar. Selain itu, juga dihasilkan produk samping pertanian yang sebagian besar belum dimanfaatkan, seperti cangkang buah karet dan limbah kerokan kayu manis. Dua buah produk samping tersebut, berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif biomassa salah satunya briket arang. Penggunaan briket arang cenderung menghasilkan bau yang menyengat. Oleh karena itu serbuk kayu manis mampu digunakan mengurangi bau menyengat tersebut. Hal ini sangat potensial mengubah aroma briket arang konvensional. Tetapi penelitian terkait ini masih sangat terbatas. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh komposisi serbuk kulit kayu manis terhadap karakteristik briket arang cangkang biji karet. Briket arang dari bahan arang cangkang biji karet CK (100%) dan tambahan serbuk kulit kayu manis CK:KM (80%:20%) dibuat dengan penambahan perekat tapioka dan disiapkan 5 ulangan. Briket arang kemudian diuji karakteristikya, diantaranya: 1. kadar air, 2. kerapatan, 3. kadar abu, 4. kadar zat menguap, 5. kadar karbon terikat, 6. kalor, 7. keteguhan tekan, dan 8. laju pembakaran. Hasil analisis menunjukkan briket arang CK (100%) memiliki karakter briket dengan kadar air rendah, kerapatan tinggi, kadar abu tinggi, kadar zat menguap tinggi, kadar karbon terikat rendah, kalor rendah, keteguhan tekan tinggi, dan laju pembakaran tinggi dibandingkan briket CK:KM (80%:20%). Berdasarkan nilai parameter-parameter tersebut briket arang CK:KM (80%:20%) memiliki kualitas lebih baik dibandingkan CK (100%) pada 4 parameter (kadar abu, kadar zat menguap, kadar karbon terikat, kalor dan laju pembakaran).   Kata kunci: briket arang, cangkang biji karet, karakteristik, serbuk kulit kayu manis

Abstract

Tanah Ultisol merupakan salah satu tanah yang memiliki tingkat kesuburan tanah yang rendah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh banyak faktor, antara lain pH masam, Al-dd tinggi, kadar P-tersedia pada tanah Ultisol rendah karena ion P dalam tanah terikat oleh oksida Al dan Fe serta Kapasitas Tukar Kation (KTK) pada tanah Ultisol relatif rendah. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian kompos padat dekanter campuran abu ketel dalam memperbaiki beberapa sifat kimia tanah Ultisol yaitu pH, Al-dd dan P-tersedia serta meningkatkan hasil produksi tanaman kedelai dan mendapatkan dosis terbaik dalam meningkatkan pH, P-tersedia dan menurunkan Al-dd serta meningkatkan produksi kedelai. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan 6 kali percobaan dan 4 kali ulangan sehingga terdapat 24 petak percobaan. Ukuran petak 3 m x 2 m dengan jarak tanam 40 cm x 20 cm sehingga diperoleh 75 tanaman dalam satu petak. Perlakuan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah P0 (tanpa pemberian kompos padat dekanter - abu ketel), P1 (15 ton/ha kompos padat dekanter - abu ketel), P2 (20 ton/ha kompos padat dekanter - abu ketel), P3 (25 ton/ha kompos padat dekanter - abu ketel), P4 (30 ton/ha kompos padat dekanter - abu ketel), P5 (35 ton/ha kompos padat dekanter - abu ketel). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberian kompos padat dekanter campur abu ketel dosis 25 ton/ha, mampu meningkatkan pH tanah dan ketersediaan fosfor (P-tersedia), serta menurunkan kadar Al-dd.
