Abstract

Writing is one of the four language skills that EFL students must learn. Because writing is utilized in everyday communication, it plays a significant part in communication. The current study was mostly based on early observations of 25 subjects in Semester 1B of the English Language Education Study Program's IEC class, which revealed that the majority of the subjects’ writing skills remained low. Furthermore, the current study sought to determine whether or whether the writing skills of first-semester students in the English Language Education Study Program's 1B class might be improved by the usage of Storyjumper. To attain the goal, the researcher conducted classroom action research in two cycles. Furthermore, the following study instruments were used to collect the necessary data: pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, and post-test 3. The data was then examined by comparing the pre-test and post-test results, which revealed significant improvements in the subjects' mean scores from pre-test to post-test. Based on the findings of the research instruments, it is possible to infer that the use of a Storyjumper can improve the writing skills of students in 1B of IEC Class of the English Language Education Study Program.

Abstract

This research utilized self-correction and peer-correction techniques on enhancing the writing skills of first-semester students in the English Language Education Study Program. Preliminary observations indicated that many students in semester 1B struggled with writing accuracy and fluency. The study aimed to determine whether the implementation of self-correction and peer-correction techniques could improve these students' writing skills. Conducted as classroom action research, the study was completed in three cycles, with data collected through a series of assessments: pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, and post-test 3. The results revealed a significant improvement in the students' mean scores from the pre-test to the post-tests, demonstrating that both correction techniques contributed positively to their writing development. This research concludes that the integration of self-correction and peer-correction effectively enhances students' writing skills, fostering a more accurate and reflective approach to language use.

Abstract

This study explored the perceptions of novice university students toward the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing English speaking skills. This qualitative study aims to investigate how novice learners perceive the role of AI in supporting their English speaking practice. The participants of this study were 10 novice learners of English Education Study Program who were determined by purposive sampling among 22 students who enrolled the Speaking for Informal Interaction Course. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews which were then analyzed by identifying themes related to learners’ perceptions of AI integration in speaking activities. The findings showed that in general the learners had positive view toward the use of AI in enhancing their speaking skills. They reported that AI tools provided opportunities for more frequent speaking practice, immediate feedback on pronunciation, and greater confidence in expressing their ideas. However, there are challenges noted, such as limited interaction quality compared to human communication. Overall, this study indicated that the integration of AI in speaking activities can support novice English learners in improving their speaking competence, confidence and engagement.
