Abstract

The SME under study, which specializes in hard wooden and leather furniture for foreign markets, encountered difficulties in integrating their make-to-order production system with tight shipping export deadlines. This necessitated a systematic worker scheduling technique in order to satisfy production targets and reduce labor expenditures. The aim of this research was to design a worker scheduling system to ensure that the production makespan corresponded to the available time limitations. The study found that the Tibrewala, Philippe, and Browne algorithm for multi-shift workers scheduling significantly reduced labor costs while ensuring order fulfillment within predefined constraints, emphasizing the need for additional research that includes all production cost variables for more comprehensive cost savings.

Abstract

This study analyzes the issues of traditional patriarchy and the reconstruction of gender roles of three books; The Breadwinner (Deborah Ellis), Parvana’s Journey (Deborah Ellis), and Wanting Mor (Rukhsana Khan). All these three books are considered as multicultural literature because of the theme of war and violence in Afghanistan culture. The findings confirm gender roles are unstable and inconstant. These three books show evidences of how gender roles are adaptable and changeable depends on what gender is favored in the social interactions. What is more, the institutional perspectives provide ways of reasoning gender roles are altered and changed. By observing Afghan social practices and policies in their culture, these books also confirm that most social institutions in this culture are gendered to favor patriarchy dominations. Therefore, the main characters of these books portray the shifts and changes of their gender roles to save them from ‘disparate treatment’ in the society.Key word: patriarchal dominations, gender roles, Afghanistan culture

Abstract

UD. TGM is one of SMEs located in Blora, Central of Java. They can produce 60 – 150 pallets of paving block per hour. Based on observations and measurements, the noise level around production machines is above 90 dB and the temperature around UD. TGM reaches 34°C. Those conditions do not match with the regulatory standards by Ministry of Health of Republic Indonesia. In addition, based on NBM questionnaire, there were 10 complaints of very sick, 7 complaints of pain, and 7 complaints of moderate pain. The worker's cardiovascular load was 36.4% (or needed improvement). Based on the REBA assessment informed that a corrective action needs to be taken immediately. This study aims to analyze the work system totally and provide improvement recommendations. We proposed recommendations by total ergonomics approach collaborated with fishbone diagrams, tree diagrams, and PDPC diagrams. The recommendations were UD. TGM need to create a supervisory team, create work instructions, design additional of transportation tools like a hand stacker, replace dirt floors with paving, enlarge air ventilation holes and add roof height. Then, the evaluation of the recommendations by Catia software, the REBA score was reduced from level 3 to level 1 (or low risk).
