Abstract

Service delivery in public institution has been one of the most important areas of management. Is it so important that an institution is often valued for its service delivery. Ar-Raniry State Islamic University was transformed from an Institute into University status in 2013. This transformation comes with an array of requirement and responsibilities that must be undertaken by its leaderhips. This article examines several crucial areas of management that often influence the quality of service delivery, especially at the Higher Education institution. Factors that often lead to either a success or a failure of an institutions, such as governance, leadership, and administration will also be discussed.

Abstract

Curriculum is the heart of teaching and learning program. Through a curriculum, teachers formulate the designated learning objectives and their outcomes and transform all those formulated goals to students. This paper has an attempt to elaborate significant information and models on curriculum that could be developed at the English Education Department (PBI – Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris) of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University (UIN Ar-Raniry) Darussalam, Banda Aceh as an Islamic higher education institution. The paper reviews various literatures on language learning curriculum, teaching English as a foreign language curriculum, and professional learning curriculum. The paper also analyses the 2016/2017 UIN Ar-Raniry manual/handbook, and the 2015 annual report of the PBI department curriculum monitoring and evaluation (Monev). The findings elucidate that the PBI department curriculum has met a standardized curriculum quality. Yet, some weaknesses that could decelerate the language acquisition process are still found in such the PBI department curriculum.

Abstract

The study of this article was set out to identify the use of the language of propaganda in Bush’s political speech. It was purposed to clarify the propaganda techniques applied by Bush in order to have one point of view among the audiences. The study focused on how the techniques of propaganda occurred within Bush Jr.’s speech in which he attempted to explain the different sides of who is combating terrorism and who is performing terror. The material of analysis was the speech delivered by Bush Jr. in front of the Military Officers Association of America Meeting in 2006. This article then found that the propagandist tries to control the relationship between information and audiences’ mind through the usage of language in their political speech. It was argued that propaganda can also effectively work toward almost all types of audiences, whereas the strategy of propaganda was mostly creating a fallacious reasoning connection concerning the topics being discussed.

Abstract

This research explored the impact of the Grammarly application on students’ writing performance and perceptions, particularly during the thesis writing stage. Writing is a complex cognitive process requiring strategic planning, organization, grammar, and vocabulary skills. The study focused on students majoring in English Language Education at Ar-Raniry State Islamic University, specifically those in their ninth semester from the 2018 cohort. A purposive sample of 42 students, all at the thesis writing stage and users of Grammarly, was selected from a total of 127. Additionally, three lecturers, serving as thesis supervisors, were randomly selected for interviews from a pool of 20. The research employed both qualitative and quantitative methods, using survey questionnaires and interviews for data collection. Results indicated that Grammarly was a beneficial tool for students, significantly aiding in thesis writing and reducing the time spent on checking grammatical errors. The surveys revealed unanimous student agreement on Grammarly’s positive impact on their writing process. Interviews with lecturers supported this, noting an improvement in the quality of theses written by students who used Grammarly. This study underscored the effectiveness of Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) tools like Grammarly in enhancing students’ writing skills and outcomes.

Abstract

In the rapidly evolving landscape of global education, English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/ EFL) pedagogy faces persistent challenges such as declining learner engagement, test-driven instruction, and insufficient development of intercultural competence. Literature, despite its proven capacity to foster linguistic proficiency, critical thinking, and cultural sensitivity, has remained underutilized and inconsistently applied in language classrooms. This study sought to reposition literature as a central element in ESL/ EFL education by examining how it can be systematically integrated into pedagogy. Employing a qualitative content analysis of thirty peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2025, the study synthesized recurring themes across diverse contexts using NVivo-supported coding and thematic analysis. Five key themes emerged: pedagogical effectiveness, learner engagement, cultural relevance, cognitive development, and critical thinking integration. Building on these findings, the study introduced the Literary Integration Pedagogical Framework (LIPF), a model that unifies sociocultural scaffolding, emotional engagement, and critical literacy into a coherent and adaptable approach. The LIPF contributed theoretically by bridging previously fragmented perspectives and practically by offering curriculum designers, educators, and policymakers an evidence-based strategy for revitalizing language teaching. This study demonstrates that literature is not a peripheral supplement but an indispensable resource for cultivating linguistically competent, emotionally intelligent, and critically aware global citizens.
