Abstract

This study aims to present differences of children’s abilities in acquiring language. This study uses a qualitative method by collecting sources from various journal articles and books. The object of the study is experiences that prove several theories related to language acquisition. This journal describes several language acquisition approaches which are reinforced by theories from an expert as well as examples of language acquisition experienced by the author.

Abstract

The study entitled Objectification in Moxie film by Amy Poehler. This study aims to analyze the occurances of the issue of objectification that will be examined by using objectification theory, and feminism appoarch to overcome the issue. The object of this study is the film Moxie (2021) directed by Amy Poehler. The film tells the story about high schoolers rebelling the issues that experienced bycharacters related to the main character which is her friends. Thus, as the guidance, the writer applies ten notions of objectification theory by Tarasenko- Struc (2021). This study uses the qualitative method to present the findings in both essay and picture form by describing the narrative and cinematography elements. This study focuses on the action of objectification experienced by the main character as a witness and how does she deal with it. The results of the study are divided into two events. First, it depicts the occurances of objectification in the main character’s highschool, those are: instrumentality, denial of autonomi, inertness, denial of subjectivity, reduction to body, reduction to appearance, and silncing. Second, the main character’s reaction of the issue of objectification is in the form of rebellion based on solidarity and friendship and primacy concrete relationship.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the atmosphere in improving reading comprehension of Pamulang University students in reading class using Socratic questioning method. The study emphasized the technique of reading comprehension by promoting Socratic Question. It particularly focused on helping students’ achievement in Reading Comprehension. The subjects of this study were second semester students from the English Department at Pamulang University. Two cycles of Classroom Action research were conducted by implementing the actions, observing the class and analyzing the results. The instruments used in this study were observation lists, questionnaires and reading tests. The data were analyzed qualitatively. Based on the data analysis it was found that Socratic Questioning promoted reading comprehension. It is presented on improvement in mean score between pre and posttest in the first phase. In the second phase, the differing mean score was likewise seen. This improvement shows that students learn that by implementing Socratic questioning on the text given. It also leads to the conclusion that the Socratic questioning method encourages them to ask questions, meaning that the Socratic questioning method stimulates their critical thinking to think about the text they read and guides them to comprehend the text.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to establish an environment for critical thinking in a vocabulary course at Universitas Pamulang by implementing Socratic questioning. The use of Socratic questioning aimed to reinforce students' techniques for mastering language and enhance their vocabulary skills. The participants in this study were students enrolled in the first semester of the English Department at Universitas Pamulang. The research followed a Classroom Action research design, which included two cycles of action implementation, class observation, and result analysis. The study utilized observation lists, questionnaires, and a vocabulary test as instruments. The data underwent qualitative analysis, which revealed that the average scores in each cycle demonstrated an upward trend from the pretest to the post-test. However, in the subsequent phase, a fluctuating, steady, and declining score was observed. The students employed Socratic questioning during the vocabulary test. The findings have shown that the use of Socratic inquiry effectively enhances critical thinking among students and facilitates vocabulary learning by prompting reevaluation. Consequently, it motivates students to engage in reflective thinking and provide precise answers.
