Abstract

Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is one of the potential candidates for the next generation solar cells. One of the most attractive features of the DSSC is the low production costs. The utilization of natural dyes is a new area for investigation due to their unique capability to absorb photons from natural sunlight or artificial light and convert it into electric current. The purpose of this study is to determine the potential of natural dye from red dragon fruit waste as a dye sensitizer. Red dragon fruit peel is initially extracted using methanol and the solution absorption spectra then is characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The absorption spectra is measured within a wavelength range of 400-800 nm. The characterization results show that the maximum absorption spectrum is at a wavelength of 446 nm. The natural dye solution then is used to immerse Fluorine Tin Oxide (FTO) coated with titanium dioxide (TiO2). The glass FTO is immersed in the dye solution for 24 hours. DSSC then is prepared by sandwiching the working electrode and counter electrode. An electrolyte solution is used to fill the interface between the two electrodes. The current and voltage (I-V) characteristics of DSSC is finally measured using amperemeter and voltmeter. The results indicated that the natural dye from the peel of red dragon fruit has potential as a dye sensitizer. Further research is still required to improve the performance of the DSSC.

Abstract

The availability of renewable energy in various sectors certainly needs to be improved, one of which is Solar Power Plant or PV. The province of Bali has a Solar Power Plant (PV) development target of 108 MW by 2025. The Solar Power Plant target has been stated in the RUEN (National Energy General Plan) policy. Efforts made by the Province of Bali to support and to realize the RUEN target are in the Bali Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 45 of 2019 concerning "Clean Energy Bali". One of the areas in Bali that can be developed as a PV development is Nusa Dua area. In this area, the integration of conventional grid systems and renewable energy (PV Rooftop) can be carried out. In this journal, the author proposes several scenarios that are expected to be considered in planning the integration of a 20 kV grid system with renewable energy power plants. Some of these ideas are the integration of 25%, 50%, and 100% of PLTS capacity in meeting electrical energy needs. The purpose of the scenario is to find out the direction of the flow supplied by the PV, and to know whether the grid will remain stable or not if disturbance occurs.

Abstract

Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) is a dye-based organic solar cell as a photon absorber developed by Prof. Gratzel (1991). Natural dyes are a solution to replace synthetic dyes which are commonly used for DSSC because they are affordable, available in large quantities, environmentally friendly and sustainable. The aims of this study was to analyze the effect of immersion time on the disposition of flourine-doped tin oxide – Titanium dioxide (FTO-TiO2) in the natural dye chlorophyll on the current, voltage and power produced. Using papaya leaves extract with a direct gap energy of 2.428 Ev, FTO-TiO2 deposition was immersed in chlorophyll with 5 levels of immersion time and 3 groupings. Current and voltage measurements were made at the output of the DSSC prototype. Using the Solar Power Generation System, the output voltage (Voc) is 341.167 mV, the current (Isc) is 64.755 ?A and the output power is 1.49 x 10-5 w/cm2 at 60 hours of immersion.
