Abstract

This study empirically assesses the co-operatives' productivity across 23 districts/cities in Aceh province, Indonesia, over 2014-2018 using the Malmquist Total Factor of Productivity Index (MTFPI) based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Unlike previous studies that focused only on selected sectors and industries, this study examines the co-operative productivity of all industries and sectors within one province. Overall, this study recorded a low productivity level of co-operatives. Only co-operatives in Subulussalam City consistently experienced a fully productive using both Constant Return to Scale (CRS) and Variable Return to Scale (VRS) estimations. Meanwhile, based on the VRS estimation, the study found that the co-operatives in Aceh Besar and Aceh Utara's districts had experienced total productivity. Overall, the co-operatives' productivity level has slightly declined, contributed mainly by a decline in technical efficiency. However, the co-operatives' efficiency level has increased, mainly due to their scale efficiency improvement. The findings suggested the importance of implementing sound co-operative governance principles and enhancing technical efficiency by adopting e-marketing and the internet of things in their business activities. How to Cite:Majid, M.S.A., Faisal, F., Fahlevi, H., & Azhari, A. Abstract

This study examinedthe effect of school accreditation, education budget, and teacher competence on the quality of high school graduates. The analysis method used was a panel regression through the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach, and the data were from 2017-2019. The results showed that school accreditation and education budgets had an effect on the quality of graduates. Also, the implication of this study is that schools need to increase accreditation, as well as the education budget. In terms of teacher competence, the teachers need to improve their competence by taking an active role in organizations, training teacher capacity, and mastery of information technology. Meanwhile, teacher competence has no effect on the quality of graduates in senior secondary schools. Simultaneously, all variables have a significant effect on the graduates quality. The limitation of this study is the data used, regardless of the status of private and public schools. Therefore, studies to compare private and public schools are of particular interest.

Abstract

This study examined and compared the efficiency level of conventional and Islamic rural banks. The analytical tool used was data envelopment analysis with the variable return scale approach. Furthermore, the input variables consist of total assets, third party funds, and costs. Meanwhile, the total financing and profit are the output variables from 2012 to 2019 for 15 rural banks in Aceh. The results showed conventional rural banks are more efficient than sharia. Therefore, Sharia banks need to engage in better socialization to the public. This is because 2021 is the beginning of qanun (law) of Islamic financial institutions enactment, which obliges change in shape to the sharia pattern. Also, universities are expected to open a study program on sharia bank as a rudiment for human resources in the future. Therefore, the study to compare conventional and sharia rural bank per province in Indonesia is important.

Abstract

This research explored and analyzed the determinants of productivity of the cooperatives in Indonesia. These determinants included own capital, external capital, and business volume. The aggregate data of cooperatives were at the provincial level across 33 provinces in Indonesia. The data were gathered from the report of the Kementerian Koperasi dan Usaha Kecil dan Menengah Republik Indonesia (Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia) over the 2010-2015 period. The data were analyzed using the panel regression technique. The result shows that own capital and business volume have a significant positive effect on the productivity of cooperatives. However, external capital has an insignificant effect on the productivity of cooperatives. To further improve their productivity, the cooperatives should increase the capital from internal sources as well as their business volume through more diversified business activities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the village funds and village-owned enterprises in reducing poverty in Indonesia. The village fund has been rolled out since 2015 by the government of the Republic of Indonesia. The data used is panel data by combining time series data and panel data from 2015 to 2021. The population of this study consists of all villages in 23 districts/cities in Aceh propince, with the total of 6.497 villages, using panel regression as an analytical tool. The result of this study showed that although village funds and village-owned enterprises do have effect in reducing the number of poor people in rural areas, however, the impact of village fund is more significant compared to village-owned enterprises. In this case relevant stakeholders should be able to increase the capacity of village fund managers through internship programs, mentoring and capacity building for managers. Multi-stakeholder cooperation is highly recommended in empowering village-owned enterprises as a source of village original income. The limitation of this study is it does not distinguish the type of business from each existing business owned by the village. Therefore, the future research needs to evaluate the type of business in a village-owned enterprise.
