Abstract

BackgroundDiffuse Large B Cell Lymphomas (DLBCL) is divided into two subtypes, GCB and non-GCB, which are determined based on Hans'salgorithm. The GCB subtype has a better prognosis than non-GCB. Some studies indicate that the tumor progression wasinfluenced by tumor microenvironment, including CD8+ TILs located both surrounding tumor cells and peripheral. This study aims todetermine the density of CD8+ TILs in the tumor microenvironment of DLBCL subtypes.MethodsA Cross sectional study of 40 samples of DLBCL registered to Department of Anatomical Pathology Faculty of Medicine UniversitasSriwijaya/Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital from 1st October 2017 to 31st December 2018. All samples were stained usinganti-CD8 antibody, afterward, lymphocytes express CD8 were assessed both in surrounding tumor cells and peripheral. The densityof CD8 in each DLBCL subtype was analyzed statistically using Mann Whitney U Test.ResultsIn this study, non-GCB subtype was found higher in comparison to GCB subtype (72.5%) and the samples was dominated by youngages (75%). Significantly, peripheral CD8 density was higher than that of surrounding tumor cells, both in the GCB (p=0.003) andnon-GCB subtypes (p=0.000).ConclusionIn both subtypes, CD8 density is higher in peripheral than surrounding tumor cells and a high density in surrounding tumor cells willbe followed by an increase in peripheral CD8 density.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the sexual reproduction information seeking pattern of Students in Sriwijaya University. It uses a qualitative approach based on Wilson's Model of Information Seeking Behavior that consist; passive attention, passive search, active search, and ongoing search. This research involves in-depth interviews with 12 students of Sriwijaya University. The study found that students at Sriwijaya University tend to perform a passive search pattern in seeking of sexual reproductive information. However this conditions does not apply when the students have responsibilities to fullfil, both academically and professionally, as it is known that the student with such responsibilities will perform an active and ongoing search. The study also found that Wilson's Search Information Behavior model can still be usefull. In the context of information seeking behavior of Student in Sriwijaya University, it was still influenced by psychological conditions, demographics, roles in society, environment, and characteristics of information sources. This study also identifies the motive of sexual reproduction information seeking behavior in students at Sriwijaya University.

Abstract

Breast carcinoma is the most common malignancy among women in developed and developing countries. Invasive breast carcinomas are classified into 4 subtypes i.e. luminal A and B, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-enriched and triple negative, the latter has the worst prognosis. Nuclear factor of activated T cell (NFATc)1 is an important transcription factor in malignant transformation and progression. Therefore, NFATc1 expression may determine prognosis of breast carcinoma. This study aimed to determine the roles of NFATc1 inbreast carcinoma progression. Materials and Methods  Fifty-two paraffin blocks were selected and prepared to assess NFATc1 expression by immunohistochemistry. These data were taken from medical records: i.e. molecular classification, patient age, tumor size, lymphovascular invasion and grade of tumor were recorded. Results: Positive NFATc1 expression was observed in 4 samples i.e. in the nuclei of luminal A (1 out of 12; 8.8%), luminal B (1 out of 15; 6.7%), and triple negative (2 out of 12; 16.7%), but no NFATc1 expression was detected in HER2-enriched samples. Clinicopathologically, more of these patients were in the fifth decade (38.5%), with larger tumor size (?2 cm; 90%), lymphovascular invasion positive (80.8%), and high degree (3; 59.6%). Conclusion: NFATc1 expression is more predominant in triple negative breast carcinoma.

Abstract

The lack of a clear definition of radicalism leads Islamic organisations to feel entitled to interpret it. It results in contention for the meaning of radicalism and forms a different reality for each reader. By taking a case study on two spectra of Islamic organisations, moderate Islamic organisation (NU Online) and Islamic extremist organisation (Portal Islam), this study aims to understand the construction of radicalism in two Islamic news portals. We utilised a dataset of news about radicalism from September 2018-2019 and analysed it using a combination of corpus linguistic (CL) and critical discourse analysis (CDA). While CL helped to reveal emerging discourses, CDA intended to observe the patterns and relate them into socio-political contexts critically. The results indicate that each site was blurring the information function of news portals into a propaganda function. They also generate fragmented knowledge, which leads to a misrepresentation of paradigm towards radicalism. This leads to discriminatory actions against other groups. The meaning of radicalism in the media may encourage group dichotomy, which is counterproductive to countering terrorism in Indonesia. This study contributes to a comprehension of the terrorism phenomenon by providing a closer view of how moderate and extreme Islamic organisations interpret radicalism.

Abstract

Introduction: Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma among B cell lymphomas. The interaction of tumor cells with their microenvironment (tumor microenvironment, TME) leads to progressivity of malignancy. CD163 + macrophages known as components of TME. Nuclear factor of activated T cell (NFATc1) and MYC are important transcription factors in malignant transformation and progression. Therapeutic strategies were fast developed, nevertheless, efforts to decrease DLBCL morbidity and mortality are unsatisfied, therefore, new markers for prognosis and or therapeutic options of the patients are necessary. This study was aimed to investigate NFATc1 expression in DLBCL and its TME. Methods: Thirty-two paraffin blocks were selected then immunostained for expression of NFATc1, MYC, and CD163. Clinopathologic data i.e. ages, gender, and proliferation index Ki-67 were obtained. Data was analyzed by statistics Result: Positive expression of CD163 and NFATc1 was among 55% and 45% of cases respectively. All DLBCL cases in this study were non-GCB subtype and more patients were under 60 years (66%). Positive expression of CD163 was higher in males (69%) and in patients under 60 years (63%). Tissues positive for both NFATc1 and CD163 was observed higher among males and patients under 60 years. Conclusion: NFATc1 may affect development and or progression of certain subsets of DLBCL non-GCB subtype.

Abstract

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are immune components found in a variety of pathological states. It has been shown to have either beneficial or harmful implications, depending on how it is controlled and has been particularly observed in three major scenarios: infection, autoimmune disease, and cancer. In this article, we compiled some of the roles of NETs in pathological conditions, as well as the benefits of targeting them for improved patient outcomes. The role of NETs were primarily positive in infectious disease, whether caused by bacteria, virus, or fungal infection. In non-infectious inflammatory scenarios, on the other hand, it's the complete opposite, with the effects being mainly deleterious and even worse than the original disease states. Targeting NETs directly or indirectly may help to prevent complications and improve patient outcomes. A plethora of compounds, including immunomodulators, anti-thrombosis, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)/reactive oxygen species (ROS) inhibitors, nuclease, and other compounds, may be used to accomplish the therapeutic goals. Keywords: autoimmune disease, cancer, DNase, infection, neutrophil extracellular traps

Abstract

Almost all Anatomic Pathology laboratories have experienced that tissue patient who comes to these laboratories without adequate fixation and causes complicated patient diagnosis. In addition, adequate fixation also makes advanced procedures such as immunohistochemical staining or DNA and RNA extraction difficult because protein, DNA, and RNA become damaged due to inadequate fixation. The fixation procedure should be the responsibility of the clinicians, specifically surgeons and team. If this procedure is not carried out appropriately resulting in damage to the tissue due to the natural process, namely autolysis, which the fixation procedure can prevent. This autolysis will damage the tissue. The laboratory process results are not optimal, complicating the evaluation of patient tissues, resulting in difficulty and delay of diagnosis. If further examination is needed, such as immunohistochemistry and other molecular examinations related to the extraction of DNA or RNA, the examination results will also be not optimal. Moreover, patient therapy becomes delayed or difficult. For this reason, we conducted extension activities for health workers, some of whom may be involved in a team of surgeons. Knowledge of pre-analytic procedures can improve the quality of pre-analytical handling, which will improve the quality of tissue andcytology specimens; hence, a precise and optimal diagnosis can be obtained. This will help the clinicians in determining the patient's therapy. Therefore, morbidity and mortality rates of patients can be reduced.
