Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social factors that affect the efficiency of tidal rice production in Tanjung Lago District. Moreover, this study used a quantitative descriptive analysis. The sampling method used for this study was Sample Random Sampling . All of 84 paddy farmers in tidal lowland became respondents of this study. The data was analyzed using chi-square test. This study proved the social factors affetcted the efficiency of tidal rize production. Furthermore, the social factors affecting the affect the efficiency of tidal rice production is farming experience.This study found that efficiency could not be achieved only with terchnical factors such as agricultural input use amd ecology condition. The influence of social factor which is farming experience showed that the more farming experience, the better the technical cultivation carried out by farmers and encourage to acheive efficiency of rice production. The policy implications that could be constructed of this study are (1) Improving farmers’ experience through the latest production technology extension for rice farm (2) Mentoring in application of rice production technology.

Abstract

The purpose of this research were to: (1) identify local wisdom in the management of lowland swamps in Soak Batok Village, Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency, (2) to analyze the income of lebak swamp rice farming in Soak Batok Village, Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency, (3) analyzing the influence of local wisdom in the management of lowland swamps and other factors on the income of rice farming in Soak Batok Village, Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency. The method used in this research is descriptive exploratory method and survey method. Descriptive methods are used to describe or describe something based on actual conditions, such as conditions, circumstances, situations, events or activities. Furthermore, the survey method was used to obtain information on selling prices, production quantities, production costs, labor wages, and other sources of income from lebak swamp rice farmers in Soak Batok Village. This method is carried out by providing a list of questions (questionnaire) to the respondents and then conducting in-depth interviews with them. The data collection time was carried out from February 2021 to March 2021.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem in Sungsang IV Village, South Sumatra has degraded mainly due to climate change. To address this, a strategy for managing and conserving mangrove ecotourism is needed, emphasizing the role of tourists in generating economic value. Willingness to Pay (WTP) is an approach that can be used to measure economic value based on tourists' willingness to pay as an effort to develop mangrove ecotourism. The Contingent Valuation Model (CVM) in assessing WTP is used to project the economic value of the environment, especially benefits that are not available in the market. Factors that influence tourist WTP can be identified by binary logistic regression analysis. The average WTP value of mangrove ecotourism tourists is IDR 17,333 or IDR 17,500 per tourist per four months or IDR 52,500 per tourist per year. Factors that significantly influence WTP are age and cost of getting to the location. One strategy that can be done for the development of mangrove ecotourism in Sungsang IV Village is to utilize programs to overcome climate change in developing mangrove ecotourism. This study’s findings will help policy makers in promoting mangrove conservation and enhaching local community livelihoods.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the adoption process, identify adopter categories, and examine the factors influencing smallholder oil palm farmers’ decisions to adopt Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification in Penilikan Village. RSPO certification plays an important role in promoting sustainability in the oil palm sector, however participation remains limited. This study eused a survey method involving 70 respondents, consisting of 35 RSPO-certified farmers and 35 non-certified farmers selected through stratified sampling. Descriptive analysis was used to assess the adoption process and adopter categories, binary logistic regression was applied to analyse the determinants of adoption decisions. The results revealed that most farmers were at the confirmation stage of adoption (41.43%), indicating a process of re-evaluating adoption decisions. 40% of respondents were classified as late majority adopters, reflecting cautious and slow adoption behaviour. All independent variables significantly influenced adoption decisions, while partially only access to information showed a significant effect. Farmers with better access to information were 5.107 times more likely to adopt RSPO certification. The study concludes that access to information is the key determinant of RSPO certification adoption among smallholder oil palm farmers. Therefore, strengthening farmer participation in training and extension activities related to RSPO certification is recommended. Performance and determinants of farmers in  adoption decision of innovation for swamps rice cropping system in South Sumatra. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands. 8(2):181-191. The development of food crops in swamplands became one of  main focus of the government in the development of rice farming in Indonesia. A variety of ecological constraints that accompany the development of agriculture in swamp land overcome by a variety of technological innovations, one of which is with the application of Cropping Index 200 (CI 200) technology. After nearly 5 years of CI 200 technology applied on swamp land is considered necessary for analysis related to the performance of socio-economic of farmers in the adoption of technology innovations CI 200. This study aimed to analyze the socio-economic condition of farmers in adopting IP 200 technology innovation, and analyze the determinants of IP 200 technology adoption decisions. Research was using the survey method and has been carried out in 2 districts, namely Tanjung Lago sub-District, Banyuasin District and Pemulutan sub-District, Ogan Ilir District in June-July 2019. Sampling method used disproportionate stratified random sampling. The analysis of the data was using tabulations, mathematical and logistic regression analysis. The results of the analysis showed that there were differences in the performance of the socioeconomy of farmers adopting and not adopting. The performance of the socio-economic of farmers who adopt were better than farmers who did not adopt the technology CI 200. The factors that determine the farmers adopt were the age, education, origin, experience, income, and the cost of farming.

Abstract

The village of Tanjung Seteko, situated in Ogan Ilir District, has significant potential for cassava production; however, farmers in the village face challenges, including low selling prices. This is due to their continued dependence on middlemen and a lack of product processing. The goal of this empowerment program is to increase farmers' incomes by diversifying products through the processing of cassava into chips, which have better selling prices and wider market access. This program was implemented with the active participation of farmers and housewives, using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method. The results of this activity show a change in the participants' perspective, from previously only selling raw Cassava, which has low economic value to individuals, can be leveraged to provide higher profits and open up opportunities for sustainable home businesses.

Abstract

The agricultural sector's sustainability is seriously threatened by climate change, especially in vulnerable places like Perigi Village, which is primarily made up of peatlands. Due to a lack of knowledge about climate change adaptation and mitigation, farmers face decreasing productivity, seasonal uncertainty, and the risk of land fires. Through training, outreach, technical support, and the use of basic technologies based on climate-smart agriculture, the Climate-Smart Agriculture Farmers Education and Action Movement programme seeks to increase farmer capacity. Extension, hands-on training, agrosilvofishery systems, educational media, and the formation of Climate-Smart Agriculture Farmers Groups are some of the techniques employed. The program's results demonstrate a significant increase in farmer knowledge, the ability to apply adaptive techniques, and the creation of regional organisations that support collective efforts to reduce climate risks. This activity has an educational, social, ecological, and economic impact on the community and can be replicated as a model for village empowerment. This curriculum emphasises the importance of collaboration between academics, village administrations, and farmers in order to create sustainable agriculture and community resilience to climate change.
