Abstract

The shipyard industry plays an important role in supporting fishing activities and efforts to fulfill animal protein for humans. It is an industry that has an orientation to produce a product in the form of a ship. There are two types of shipyards, which are offshore buildings and floating buildings - both are used to build new ships and repair old ships. Based on the level of technology used by the shipyard industry, it is divided into modern, traditional, and semi-modern shipyards. Its productivity can see the advantages and disadvantages of a shipyard to ensure this industry remains to exist. Several factors need to be taken into account to increase the shipyard productivity, including land or location, human resources, technology, and materials. Keywords:ProductivityShipyardTechnology

Abstract

Fishing port scan support fishery resources management by incorporating social-economic activities to improve the local community's welfare; however, it can also negatively impact the environment by increasing waste pollution to the surrounding waters. Kutaraja Fishing Port, Banda Aceh, is one of the active fishing ports that conduct multiple activities, such as industrials, transportations, and domestic activities threatening the environment through the production of pollution such as heavy metals. The purpose of this study is to determine the concentration of heavy metals Zinc (Zn) and Chromium (Cr) and the sediment contamination level in the Kutaraja Fishing Port, Banda Aceh. This research was conducted in February 2021 at the water site of Samudra Kutaraja Fishing Port, Banda Aceh, and sampled sediments using the purposive sampling method. Samples were then analyzed for heavy metal concentration using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) instrument in the laboratory of the Aceh Industrial Research and Standardization Center (BARISTAND). The results showed that the concentration of heavy metal Zn ranged from 15.6507 - 27.2939 mg/kg. The majority of heavy metal Cr concentrations were below the test limit of 0.000, except at station 2, which was 9.1212. Both heavy metal concentrations are still categorized as low contamination criteria and still below the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC, 2000) and the Canadian Council of Ministers for the Environment (CCME, 2002). This research proved that both heavy metals do not threaten the biota and have a low contamination level in the waters. Keywords:SedimentHeavy metal (Zn)Heavy metal (Cr)Atomic-absorptionSpectro-photometerAssessment

Abstract

Kata kunci: kualitas ikan; nelayan tradisional; penanganan pasca panen; rantai dingin; sanitasi dan higiene Abstract The fisheries sector is a vital source of food and income for coastal communities, including traditional fishers in Lhok Kuala Bubon Village. However, limited knowledge of post-harvest handling, sanitation, and the application of the cold chain system has led to a decline in fish quality, rapid spoilage, and reduced market value. This community engagement program aimed to provide education and assistance to fishers in maintaining catch quality through the implementation of cold chain practices and proper hygiene. The program was carried out in three stages: socialization, mentoring, and evaluation with feedback. Socialization was delivered through presentations, discussions, and educational videos introducing proper fish handling practices. Mentoring emphasized hands-on training in fish handling, the use of ice and cool boxes, and maintaining equipment hygiene. Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests to measure improvements in fishers’ knowledge and skills. The results indicated a 25% increase in understanding, with post-test scores significantly higher than pre-test scores. Fishers who adopted cold chain practices reported that their fish remained fresher, lasted longer, and achieved a price increase of around 5–10%. This program had a direct impact on enhancing awareness and skills in maintaining fish quality, although limited access to ice and adequate cooling facilities remains a key challenge. Overall, the cold chain education and mentoring program proved effective in improving fish quality and increasing fishers’ income. Keywords: fish quality; traditional fishers; post-harvest handling; cold chain; sanitation and hygiene

Abstract

Shipbuilding is one of the marine industries which in development needs to pay attention to various parameters from the sea and land. This research was conducted in March to May 2022 with the aim of identifying the influence of oceanographic factors and water quality on the development of the shipbuilding industry at the fishing port of Sabang City. The oceanographic data used includes tides, wind, bathymetry, and sediment composition observed at 12 station points. The depth and tide data are then processed using QGIS. Wind data was analyzed using the Wind Rose Plot and sediment using the Wentworth scale. Oceanographic factors in Sabang Bay have shown very satisfactory results for the development of fish landing bases. The wind in the waters of Sabang Bay blows northwest with high speeds ranging from 10.00 m/s. The depth of the waters indicates a potential location for ship mooring. Sandy sediment is the most common type of sediment found. The tides that occur in the bay of Sabang are relatively stable. Oceanographic factors in Sabang Bay have shown very satisfactory results for the development of fish landing bases. Keywords:OceanographyShipyardSabang Bay
