Abstract

This study aimed to determine how stator resistance, rotor saliency, mechanical torque, viscous damping, and terminal voltage influence the transient response of a synchronous generator, while avoiding conclusions based on inconsistent power conventions or an insufficient observation period. An energy consistent, three state dq model with outward generator currents and constant rotor flux was derived. Ten illustrative scenarios were computed over five seconds using an adaptive Runge–Kutta method. Independent solver comparison, an integrated energy balance, analytical equilibrium calculation, and local eigenvalue analysis were used to check the results. Increasing stator resistance from 0.2 to 0.8 Ω reduced the sampled peak current from 172.93 to 134.68 A. Increasing mechanical torque from 100 to 200 N m increased the five second rotor speed from 178.77 to 339.12 rad/s. Raising terminal q axis voltage from 150 to 300 V increased peak current from 115.58 to 202.85 A. All scenarios remained accelerating at five seconds; the baseline acceleration was 48.23 rad/s². The maximum normalized energy discrepancy was 1.08 × 10⁻⁹. The study integrates five parameter investigations within one checked model and distinguishes finite horizon behavior from formal equilibrium. Its contribution is a reproducible diagnostic framework for generator modeling rather than a claim of experimentally validated machine performance.
