Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In order to attain high economic growth and equitable economic development, each region has to determine its regional economic growth centre.  The existence of an economic growth center allows for the concentration of economic activity, which in turn has a ripple effect on the surrounding areas (Hinterland). This study was carried out to identify the primary centres of economic growth in Kendari and analyse their interactions and influence on the surrounding hinterland. This study employed both primary and secondary data, which were analysed using scalogram analysis, centrality index analysis, and gravity analysis. The findings indicate that among the eleven sub-districts in Kendari, three of them, namely Kadia, Kendari Barat, and Mandonga, serve as economic growth centres. Each economic growth centre is connected with a primary hinterland that exhibits the highest level of attraction or interaction value when compared to other districts. Among these centres, Kadia is the sub-district with the higher growth centre hierarchy and it has the highest interactions with Wua-wua. The interaction value between Kadia and Wua-wua is 139595130.7. Kendari Barat is the second growth centre in terms of its interactions with Mandonga, with an interaction value of 710383315.6. Mandonga is the third growth centre that has the highest level of interaction with Kendari Barat, with an interaction value of 710383315.6. The implication of the study is to formulate more targeted policies based on strong empirical evidence.

Abstract

The definitive treatment for Hirschsprung's disease is pullthrough procedure, that can be done through conventional pullthrough approach or through minimal invasive approach. The benefit of minimal invasive technique compared to conventinal open procedure is shorter time to oral intake, shorter length of stay, and less postoperative pain. Secondary LATEP is a minimal invasive pull through technique in patients with preexisting colostomy. Primary pullthrough sometimes cannot be done because limitation of health facilities, uneven distribution of pediatric surgeons throughout the country and late diagnosis of Hirschsprung's Disease. In dr Soetomo Hospital Surabaya, 7 secondary LATEP procedures were done in January to August 2014. The age range was 6 months to 8 years old. All patients survived, 1 patient had stenosis of anastomotic site 2 weeks postoperative, 3 had enterocolitis, 3 with no complication. Secondary LATEP is a minimal invasive approach for Hirschsprung's Disease that can be adjusted with Indonesia's social and economic condition, where most population was distant from an adequate health facility. As there is high incidence of malnutrition, enterocolitis and also the distance from appropriate health services, stoma formation is the first thing that can be done before definitive treatment.Secondary LATEP has never been done in Indonesia, and we still need more data and research to evaluate the benefit and disadvantage of this approach compared to conventional or minimal invasive primary pull through. In conclusion, secondary LATEP is an appropriate pullthrough alternative for Hirschsprung's Disease and applicable in Indonesia, considering the social and economy condition. Further study must be done to develop this method.

Abstract

This study investigates the long-run and nonlinear relationship between industrial metal prices and economic growth in Indonesia by interpreting aluminum and copper prices as structural proxies for global industrial metabolism. Moving beyond conventional commodity-price analysis, the study employs a time-series econometric framework integrating unit root tests, ARDL bounds cointegration, error correction modeling, and threshold analysis. Using long-horizon annual data, the findings reveal a stable long-run equilibrium relationship between Indonesia’s real GDP and industrial metal proxies, indicating that national economic growth is structurally embedded in material-intensive global production dynamics. The long-run estimates show that aluminum prices exert a positive effect on economic growth, reflecting their role in supporting broad-based industrial throughput and manufacturing expansion. In contrast, copper prices display a negative long-run effect, suggesting that rising material complexity and infrastructural intensity may constrain growth. The nonlinear results further identify a critical copper-price threshold beyond which its impact on growth becomes strongly negative, signaling a transition from productive expansion to systemic industrial stress. These findings underscore the importance of accounting for structural and nonlinear dynamics when assessing growth trajectories in resource-rich developing economies.
